Hello, Super-Couponers! You’re getting Monday’s Deals of the Week one day early to take advantage of the one-day overlap between last month’s and this month’s Procter & Gamble inserts! There are quite a few great deals that are valid just for today, 9/30… so you’ve got all day to get out shopping! (That is, if the warm weather doesn’t call you to spend the day outdoors instead! We spent part of our day at the park with our children yesterday, and it was 81 degrees out!)
This week, I’ve got TWO great giveaways for you too! First, enter to win a “monstrous” General Mills Monster-Themed Cereal Gift Pack, which also includes a $20 Target gift card… and then enter to win a $50 Dominick’s gift card and learn about international foods that are available at Dominick’s!
Sunday’s newspaper contained FOUR inserts: A SmartSource (SS,) a RedPlum (RP,) a Procter & Gamble (PG,) and a Pepsi Moments (PEPSI.) The Parade also has a DreamWater coupon if you’d like to clip it.

If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Jewel-Osco ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE:Ecoupons you can currently use with the Jewel-Osco Rewards card are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
LAST IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has gone to a one-page paper ad in the newspaper some weeks in some market areas, but the full Sunday ad is available online at www.jewelosco.com. This ad is valid at ALL stores, even if you did not receive the full ad in your local paper.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday, September 25th.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

The Dole coupon is in the 9/30 RP, not the Pepsi insert. :)

McHenry Meijer has the price of Meijer basic toilet paper for 2.99, not 3.99. At least that was the price yesterday, wondering if it has gone up today, or is just by location?

There is also a $1/2 Quaker items in the Oct All You mag.

There is also a $3.00 coupon on Redplum.com.

Anyone else having this problem. When I try to get to the deals of the week I keep getting “error, page not found’ and just a listing of the forum topics. Tried several times this morning and it happens everytime.
quiltty66 says
If you’re planning on doing the Herbal Essences deal here, be prepared to be denied usage of the $3/2 coupon. Karen @customer service could not wrap her head around how you could use a coupon on a free item. I’ve called and complained but they have to call me back tomorrow.
MamaHan says
If you got the free/almost free One Step Starter kits awhile back, look inside for the coupons. There is a coupon for a BOGO on the One Step refils, up to $3.99 that expires 12/31/12.
If you have 3 of these, you can get 6 towards the Meijer $20 Catalina deal, and it breaks down like this:
6 * $3.49 = $20.94
Minus 3*3.49 (10.47), minus $5 cat comes to $5.47, or ~$.91 each. I will happily pay this for not having to scrub toilets! : )

This is the fourth weekend in a row that I have been missing some or all of my inserts. This weekend, I did not even receive papers but knowing there were four inserts, I went to the corner store to buy two papers. Neither of those papers had the Smartsource inserts for this weekend! What’s going on?!!? I have called to complain, but the problem keeps getting worse.

When I went to my jewel in bloomingdale, there were not any signs on the shelf so I didn’t do the deal. Is this deal from the online ad version? Are there signs on the shelf mentioning this sale?
Outlander says
Jeans are unfortunately $13 and not $10 anymore.
Also use Target Qs for great Glade deal $20/$5. I did fantastic last Friday when there were other Glade Catalina’s still running. For example bought 2 candles 2x$2.99 and 2 Expressions 2x$7.99 = $22. Used 1 $2/2 mfr Q and 2 Buy 1 candle/get Expressions free. Paid $4 got $5 store Glade cat and $2 Expressions Cat.

Can you please explain how you are getting to $.79 for Quaker oatmeal at Jewel? I know there is a coupon not listed, but that only gets me to $1? Thanks!
chicabaja says
I’ll give it a go then and use $1/2 that expires 10/31. $2.29 for 6 bottles is still a good deal. Can’t wait to try the new honey strong variety!
maggie says
Meijer “Natural” tomato sauce is 42 cents. If you buy 5, you get $3 back, which makes it a small moneymaker.
If you are looking for a deal on oatmeal, check this out: the small “Natural” canisters are on sale for $1, part of the “buy 10, get the 11th free”.
Since it’s also a “Natural” item, it also qualifies for the “buy 5 naturals, get $3 on your next organic/natural” deal.
So I got 5 natural oatmeal, plus 6 bags of pretzels (paid for 5, the 6th was free) and paid 10 with $3 back. $7 for all of this is not bad.
If you just do 5 oatmeal, you pay $5 with $3 back, which means $2 for 5 canisters. A very good deal.
Ofcourse, I now have a couple $3 coupons which I can only use on organics/natural items. It would have been great if it had been on anything, but this will be good for future purchases of organic milk, for example.

How do I do this deal if I only have 2 b1g1 coupons? Thanks for your help!
jmdetz says
I was rushing and only clipped one BOGO, but still did it because I was in Chicago dropping my son back at school and the shampoo was for him. So I bought 4 bottles for $16 and used 1 BOGO and 1 $1 off 2 and I got 6000 rewards, so $1.25 per bottle, which I am willing to pay. So willing, I did it again tonight (also wondering if I would indeed get 6000 more points and I did).
Now, how do I use these points? Do I have to tell the cashier I want to use them?
rual2269 says
I didnt see a sign for the buy 5 get 5 off but brought them up to the register anyway. They rang up all 5 and the 5.00 didnt come off. did I miss the sale?
