Hello, Super-Couponers! Have you been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather we’re having in Chicagoland? If you’d have bet me we’d see four consecutive days over 80 degrees mid-October, I would never have believed it.
I also never imagined I’d take these photos in the same week. October brings days filled with apple-pie baking and applesauce-making… and this year, sprinkler splashing and wading-pool water fun too! Even the hardy hibiscus in front of my house is confused. It usually stops blooming in August, but this week, it’s covered in big pink flowers again. I can’t wait to spend more of this beautiful, long weekend with my family, so I pulled an all-nighter to get Deals of the Week up early for you too! Happy Sunday shopping!
This week, I’ve got another blog giveaway too! Would you like to to win a 4-count package of Knorr’s new Homestyle Stock? Head over to the link to enter.

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

Nestle Toll House Morsels (10-12oz.) are on sale for $1.99, limit 6. Buy two and use this $1-off-2 printable. You’ll pay $2.98 for two bags, or $1.49 each!
Domino Sugar (4lb. bags) are on sale for $2.49, limit 4. Use the .50 coupon from September All You and pay $1.99! The 8/28 RP has a .50-off-2 coupon too that will net you more sugar at $2.24.

RoTel Canned Tomatoes are on sale for $1 too. Buy two and use the .55-off-2 coupon from 10/2 SS1. You’ll pay $1.45 for two, or .73 per can.
3-packs of 100ct. Kleenex boxes are on sale for $2.99. Use the .50 coupon from 10/2 SS or August All You and pay $2.49 per 3-pack. That’s .83 each, which isn’t a terrible price if you need them. (Dominick’s also has single boxes on sale for .79 each, limit 2 this week.)
Ore-Ida Easy Fries are on sale for $1 a box. They’re also part of a national Catalina deal:
Buy two and receive a $1 Catalina;
Buy three and receive a $2 Catalina;
Buy four or more and receive a $3 Catalina!
So, buy four at $4 and get a $3 Catalina, making these $1 for four boxes, or .25 each! (If you’ve never head these, they’re not something I would pay much for, as the per-ounce price isn’t cheap… but they -are- very good… perfectly hot and crispy restaurant-style fries that you can do in the microwave. Mmm!)
Jewel is running a “Mix 6, Match & Save” sale on Kellogg’s, Keebler, and Famous Amos cereals and snacks. Buying any 6 will drop the price of each item to $1.88 (previously $2.88.) Here are your products and matchups:

Obviously, the cereals are the best thing here, dropping to $1.38 each post-coupon. If you buy the Raisin Bran or Rice Krispies, don’t forget about the “Buy 10, get $10” mail-in rebate from Kellogg’s — you can send it in FIVE times per address. After rebate, that’s .38 cereal!
Jewel is running a “Spend $15, Get $5” Catalina on Dove products (the hair and body kind, not the chocolate kind.) You must buy $15 worth of selected Dove products to receive the Catalina. While the ad states “Minimum purchase requirement calculated after manufacturer coupons redeemed,” these sales typically do work on your pre-coupon total at the register. However, if you choose to do the deal in that way, you do take the risk upon yourself in the event that it does not print. Make sure your calculations are correct!

The easiest deal here is on the shampoo if you’ve got multiple 10/2 inserts. Buy four shampoo, conditioner or stylers ($15.56.) Use two .75 coupons on the first two bottles, and use two B1G1F coupons on the second.
After all coupons, pay $6.28 and get a $5 Catalina! $1.28 for four is .32 each!
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Last Sunday’s paper had a new $100 Jewel-Osco coupon book inside! These coupons are good through 10/15. Best bets? In the order that they appear in the book…
Tyson Breaded Chicken (20.5-29oz.) is on sale for $5.99 a bag — not a good price. But use the $2 store coupon from the Jewel book and stack it with the $1 manufacturer coupon from the 8/21 SS insert. You’ll pay $2.99, a nice price!
Jack O Lantern Pumpkins are $4.99 at Jewel, but just $2.99 after the $2 coupon from the book. This is cheaper than I’ve seen them at local pumpkin patches around here… of course, you’re not picking them at the patch though.
Hard shell squash is .99/lb. There’s a coupon in this week’s Jewel-Osco coupon booklet for Buy 2 pounds, get the 1st pound free! That’s TWO pounds for .99, or about .50/lb.
Bar-S Corn Dogs (3lbs.) are $5.99 a box. Use the coupon from the JO coupon booklet and get $2 off. You’ll pay $3.99!
Palermo’s Primo Thin Crust Pizzas (14.55-19.1oz.) are on sale for $5 each. The store coupon from the JO book is a $2-off-2. So, buy two and stack that with this $1-off-2 printable. You’ll pay $7 for two, or $3.50 each.
Krunchers Potato Chips (9oz.) are on sale for $2.50 per bag. The store coupon in the J) book is a $1-off-2, knocking these to $4 for two, or $2 per bag. There’s also a $1-off-2 manufacturer coupon in the 9/11 SS1. With this manufacturer coupon, pay $3 for 2 bags, or $1.50 each.
Starbucks Frappuccino or Double Shots (4-packs, 6.5-9.5oz. bottles) are on sale for $5 each. Use the $2-off-2 store coupon from the JO booklet and stack it with the $2-off-2 coupon from the 10/2 PEPSI. You’ll pay $6 for two, or $3 per 4-pack.
Windex Glass Cleaner (26oz.) is $2.69. Use the .70 store coupon from the JO book and stack it with the $1 off Multi-Surface Windex from the 9/25 SS. You’ll pay .99! There’s also a .50 coupon in the September All You for $1.49 Windex.
“Spend $20, Save $5” Catalina Sale! Buying $20 worth of the items featured in the ad will generate a $5 Catalina! The ad states that you may receive TWO $5 Catalinas per transaction, so you could buy $40 and get $10 back. (The deals don’t always work this way, so enjoy!) While the ad states “Minimum purchase requirement calculated after manufacturer coupons redeemed,” these sales typically do work on your pre-coupon total at the register. (Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Are you a Meijer Mperks member? Mperks is a different set of electronic Meijer coupons. They’re attached to your cellphone number, but aside from one text message to activate your account, you do not need to use text messaging to continually use them. Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Here are your Hilander deals… View weekly ad
Hilander shoppers are reminded to stop in and get a free Schnucks Customer Card to replace the Hilander Plus card. They are offering a .10/gallon fuel bonus for registering for the new card by October 18th, and an additional .05/gallon savings if you register your card with an email address.
The Rockford-area Logli stores also share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford has been having a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The Scnhucks ad cycle is a WEDNESDAY to TUESDAY ad, which means these deals will now end on Tuesdays of the current week. These deals end TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11th.
Schnucks has a FREE turkey deal in its new ad. If you spend $50 on groceries each week for the next 6 weeks, you will earn 6 Turkey Bucks. 6 Turkey Bucks “buys” you a free turkey up to 16 pounds. Gift cards and other “cash-like” transactions do not count toward the $50.
70-110ct. boxes of Kleenex are on sale for $1. Buy three and use the .50 coupon from 10/2 SS. It will double to $1, and you’ll pay $2 for 3 boxes, or about .67 each!
Ore-Ida Easy Fries are on sale for $1 a box. They’re also part of a national Catalina deal:
Buy two and receive a $1 Catalina;
Buy three and receive a $2 Catalina;
Buy four or more and receive a $3 Catalina!
So, buy four at $4 and get a $3 Catalina, making these $1 for four boxes, or .25 each! (I am ASSUMING the national offers that ran at Hilander continue to run under Schnucks’ ownership now. This is a national Ore-Ida Catalina deal.)
Krunchers potato chips (9.62oz.) are on sale for $1.89. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 from 9/11 SS1. You’ll pay $2.78 for two, or $1.39 each!
“Buy 6, Get $3” Catalina sale Buying any 6 of the following products will generate a $3 Catalina, plus $2 will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Clorox 35ct. wipes are in this deal too, but the pathetically low .25 coupon in the 8/21 SS for the wipes doesn’t make them much of a deal here.
Campbell’s tomato or chicken noodle soup (10.75oz.) is on sale for .69, limit 3, with the store coupon in this week’s Wags ad. Stack that with the .40-off-2 from 10/2 SS or a .40-off-3 printable. You’ll pay $1.67 for three, or about .56 per can.

Then, you could pay $7.50 and get $3 back. $4.50 for 3 Fun Size is $1.50 each.
This offer is limit 1 per CVS card.
Here’s a “Spend $15, Get $5” Extra-Care-Bucks deal on cleaning products. This one’s not terribly hot because the coupons available for some of these are for larger-sized items than are in the deal. But for the ones that do, here we go…

Clorox Disinfecting Wipes (35ct.) – $2.50
– .25 off – 8/21 SS
Yeah, I told you it wasn’t much to write about..! Meijer’s better this week for these products if you need them because the coupons match up to the sizes included better than here.
This offer is limit 1 per CVS card.

There are THREE ECB deals running on Garnier Haircare and Skincare this week too. Again nothing is crazy-cheap or free here. These are the kinds of deals I ponder over and wonder if they’re even worth writing about! You be the judge…
The first is a “Spend $10, Get $3 in ECBs” on Garnier shampoos, conditioners and stylers. 4.2-35.4oz. Garnier hair products are $4.99 each. The 9/18 RP, 8/28 RP, and 7/24 RP inserts all have $1 coupons for each.
To do the deal, buy 3 Garnier ($14.97.) Use three $1 coupons. Pay $11.97 and get $3 back in ECBs. That’s $8.97 for three, or $2.99 each.
—–
For the haircolor, Garnier Nutrisse haircolor is on sale for $5.99. Spend $10 and get $3 in ECBs (note that this is a different deal than the one above.) Nutrisse is on sale for $5.99, and there’s a $2 coupon in the 9/25 RP.
With two coupons, buy two Nutrisse ($11.98. Use two $2 coupons (now $7.98.) Pay $7.98 and get $3 back. $4.98 for two is $2.49 each. (Again… we’ve seen Nutrisse a lot cheaper in the past. But if you need it..)
—–
For the skincare, it’s a blanket “Spend $15, Get $5 in ECBs” on Garnier skincare. The ad is showing the Garnier Skin Renew Dark Spot Corrector, which is $15.99 at my CVS (Lake in the Hills.)For this, there’s a $2 coupon in the 10/9 SS. You’ll pay $13.99 and get $5 back, making this $8.99.

Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Hilander (Schnucks) | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Did you see the nice $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupon in the 10/2 PG? You can score some free makeup at Walmart this week with it! Single-color Cover Girl Cheekers blushes and Enhancers eye shadows are $3.99 at most stores. Buy two… and with your coupon, pay NOTHING. They’re FREE!
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I eagerly tore open my ads for this Sunday’s newspaper (they are in a sealed plastic wrapping) only to find the Red Plum coupons, no Smart Source. These were from the Chicago Tribune. I also purchased a Sun Times and the coupons were exactly the same, only Red Plum. This has been on more than one occasion with coupon inserts. I was totally disappointed. Has anyone else had this happen?

Walmart has Schick Disposable 12 count on sale for 1.97 right now. I had a few $3 off, as well as $2 off coupons. I went to try to use them and get the overage back (which I had actually done at a different location with NO problem), and the cashier had to call a manager. Well, the assistant manager was being very rude, telling me that they don’t give cash back in sitiutions like this. I told her it was the new coupon policy, so she had no reason not to. THEN, she reads my coupons and points out that it said “no cash back if coupon value exceeds retail price”. At this point I took her name down, grabbed my coupons, and left. I wasn’t completely sure on this one, so I didn’t bother fighting with her. So was I supposed to be able to get my overage, or since the coupon stated what it did, was she right?

I also really appreciate that you posted the deals early this week, its so much easier to clip the coupons on Sunday night instead of Monday :) Have a great week!

Does anyone know if I buy $25 worth of Pepsi products to get the instant $5 off, but also add more of the PG/PepsiCo products to get to $40 if I will still get $10 back? I know in the past instant savings have messed up CAT totals. Will I need to add an extra $5 to get the $10 or will the $5 instant savings not affect my total? Also, if I use the $2 store coupon for the Pepsi will that also mess up what the register sees as my total spent for the CAT? I hope this makes sense to someone.

Hi Jill, I have a couple of Q questions that I’m hoping you can help me with!
1. When I get a Q that prints from a register at a store (and it states Manufacturer Coupon on it), do I have to use that Q at that store? For example, I received a Q from the register at Target for $1 off Hershey Kisses. At the top of the Q it says “Manufacturer Coupon” and it has the Manuf. address on it , indicating it’s a Manufact. Q. I’m confused b/c it also says on the Q “Redeem at Target”. So can I only use this Q at Target? Or is that a “suggestion”? Would it stack with another Manufacturer Q or another Target Q?
2. When I print Q’s from the Q section of Target.com, sometimes they come out as Target Web coupons, and sometimes they come out as Manuf. Q’s. Is there any way to tell what type they are before printing? Sometimes I think I’m going to get a great coupon stack deal by printing out the coupons from the website, only to find out that it’s not a Target Q, but a Manuf Q.
Thanks for all you do to help my family save $!

Shopped at Jewel and after my purchase a $5 Catalina printed for something. I think it may have been the 2 Lipton teas and maybe the Sunchips and Krunchers made by Frito Lay??? I was so excited that I rolled it over into the Kellogg’s cereal/pop tart purchase.

I am confused as to why it says to use the $1 off Maybelline mascara in the 9/11RP, but not to use the coupon right next to it for $2 off Color Sensational High Shine or any other lip color coupon?? Can we not use this one, too? Thanks for any help!

I found out through one of my couponing sources that WAGS had a deal on the ARRID XX deodrant. With the WAGS sales ad coupon(ends 10/15) ARRID XX deodrant would cost .99 (limit of 6); but there was a printable internet coupon online for a $1.00 off one deodrant and when you stacked the coupons the product would be free!!!
So I printed two coupons and went to WAGS to get it. When I was at the register I was informed that since my internet coupon was a copy of the same coupon I couldn’t use both. I explained to the cashier that I printed both coupons from my home computer and that internet coupons have a limit of 2 prints. She talked to her manager and the manager told her that I could only use one internet coupon because the two coupons I had printed had the same code/ upc numbers and that each internet coupon that you print should have different numbers.
I had never heard of this so I only bought one deodrant and I went to another WaGS to get the second deodrant.
Anyone else hear of this — that internet coupons are supposed to have different code/upc numbers when you print them?
