Ready to save some money?
Starting at Jewel (which you all know is my favorite grocery store…) All sales run through this Wednesday unless otherwise noted:
Crest toothpaste is on sale for $1.00, and the 9/28 P&G insert has a $1.00 off Crest coupon. Put them both together… and you’re taking home a free tube of Crest. Dollar coupons paired with dollar sales are one of the easiest ways to get things free!
Still at Jewel, you can get some free nail files (hey, they’re not food, but they are free.) The multipack of Sally Hansen Garnet Emery Boards is on sale for $1.35. There is a $2.00 off any Sally Hansen product in the 9/28 SS insert. Now, I will warn you that this coupon does not scan. It will beep at the register (there is something “off” with the coding for it in that no matter what product you buy with it, it’s still prompting the register for approval.) So, while this would usually be an overage deal, your cashier may key it down to the value of the nail files because it doesn’t scan automatically. But, they’ll still be free. :) And free is good.
Now, I know we have a lot of new readers again this week (between the coupon classes and Johnny B, more people are flooding into this place daily!) so some of you may not know about the CRAZY Catalina deals that have been running on Glade products lately. All month long, various Glade products have been “moneymakers” in that the Catalina that prints out for savings off your next Jewel purchase exceeds the value of the Glade products you’re buying. (Check out some of the old deals to see what I mean – Buying 2 Glade Wisp candles paid you $4.01, and buying buying 2 Glade Gel Plug-ins paid you $2.51.)
Well, this week, Glade Scented Oil Plug-Ins are your moneymaking friend! They’re $5.49 each (be careful as some with a built-in fan cost over $7 — you want the basic oil plug-in.) For each one you purchase, a Catalina will print for $4.00 off your next order. Use the B1G1F Glade Scented Oil Plug-Ins coupon from 9/28 SS and pick two up for $5.49… and get $8.00 back in Catalinas good on your next order! That’s a $2.51 profit!
Note that this same Catalina deal is also running at Dominick’s and Kmart this week, albeit unadvertised. If you try it there and don’t get what you want, as with many Catalina deals, there’s not much you can do other than return your items for a refund. But if you like taking chances and can’t find them at Jewel, one of those stores should do the trick as well.
Let’s head over to SuperTarget. How about some really cheap carrots ? I love getting deals on produce! Bags of Green Giant baby carrots are on sale for $1.29, and Target’s site has printable store coupons for $1.00 off the carrots. 29 cents a pound is a great price for fresh veggies, and you can print as many of these coupons as you’d like… so figure out how many bags of carrots you can eat, and go pick them up cheap!
Still at Target, how about organic canned tomato paste for 9 cents? EatBetterAmerica.com has coupons for $1.00 off… and the cans are just $1.09. Pick up some cheap tomato paste and make enchiladas… or pizza… or anything!
Over at Walgreens, there’s a good Dimetapp moneymaker… Print three $2.00 off Dimetapp cough medicine coupons. Buy 3 bottles at Walgreens for $3.99 each – minus coupons, $1.99 each… and get $10.00 in Register Rewards! Walgreens will pay you $4.03 to take the cough medicine home. This is just like the Robitussin deal from a few weeks ago, and if you have any of those $3.00 off coupons left, you can use them here again as well, as Robitussin is also included in this deal — and you’ll be saving even more money! (It seems that almost every other week lately, Walgreens has had some brand of cold medicine free. After all these deals, I think we’re quite prepared for cold season at our house.)
Note: Read comments below for an alternative way to do this deal if your Walgreens won’t take internet coupons — a few locations won’t.
While getting your free cough medicine, how about some free shampoo too?Pert Plus is $3.79 at Walgreens. Use the $2.50 off Pert coupon in the October EasySaver booklet (found at the front of the store in a wire rack near the doors) and combine this with the $1.50 off Pert coupon from 9/7 SS. You’ll be getting free shampoo with 21 cents’ overage too… which can be nicely applied toward your Dimetapp purchase. The Pert coupon expires on Wednesday, so shop early if you like free things (and who doesn’t?)
Still at Walgreens, if you want a super deal on Kotex, check out this post by one of my blog readers, Prea — you’ll be getting the 24-ct. Kotex pads for $1.00 a pack!
Lastly for Walgreens, here’s another good deal posted by one of my blog readers, sugdenc. Lindt Swiss gourmet chocolate bars are on sale at Walgreens for $2.49 each. Use the B1G1F coupon in the 10/5 SS insert to get 2 bars for $2.49. Now, use the $1.00 off Lindt coupon in the October EasySaver booklet to take another $1.00 off each bar – getting your two bars for 49 cents. Hey, it’s not free, but it’s ridiculously cheap for gourmet chocolate… and we can all use a little cheap indulgence right now. (And, if you apply the Pert overage to the chocolate, you’ll get 2 for 28 cents. What a deal!)
(Note: There’s a 75-cents off Lindt coupon next to the B1G1F coupon in the same insert. While many stores will let you use both of these coupons together when buying 2, Walgreens won’t. Just an FYI – go with the B1G1F coupon as it works out to be a better deal.)
There are a couple of CVS freebies this week too (these are the kind that I might not make a special trip for, but if you’re there and have the requisite coupons, they’re good!
First, Colgate toothpaste is on sale for $3.49, and you’ll get $2.00 back in Extra Care Bucks if you buy it. If you’re a reader or subscriber of the fabulous All You magazine (which is a couponer’s dream come true — it contains over 30 coupons each month with a cheap cover price), you’ll find $1.50 off Colgate coupons in the August, September or October issues. You can only do this deal once per Customer Care card, but hey… even more free toothpaste is great! (And I hope all my blog readers have excellent dental hygiene after all the tooth-care freebies in the past month alone!)
Also at CVS, Sobe, Propel, or Gatorade bottled drinks are on sale for $1.00 each. Buy 5 of any and you’ll get $3.00 back in ECBs. Not a bad deal, but let’s make them free! Near the makeup, there’s a CVS booklet called “CVS Reinventing Beauty” (ask at your store if you can’t find it.) Pick up 2 of these booklets. Inside each is a coupon for $1.00 off 2 of these bottled drinks. Use 2 coupons, pay $3.00 for your 5 drinks… and get $3.00 back in ECBs! Free beverages are good! Again, you need to find these booklets in the store to get these for free, so if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t like disappointment, I wouldn’t necessarily make a special trip in case your store is out.
Lastly… many readers were very excited about Kmart’s double coupons promotion earlier this month. They’re doing it again Oct. 15-18 at Super Kmarts… doubling all coupons up to and including $2.00 off! No printables allowed, but $4 potential savings is fantastic, especially since none of our grocery stores in our area double coupons at all.
Participating stores:
Tinley Park, IL
Homewood, IL
Bradley, IL
Round Lake Beach, IL
I actually took a “coupon field trip” to Rockford last week, where their two largest grocery chains (Hilander/Kroger and Logli/Schnucks) double all coupons up to 55 cents in value (making them worth $1.10) each every day. If only..! However, I can’t complain… I think all of us in Chicagoland are doing really well saving every day, even without double coupons :)
Web freebies:
Free Greenies dog or cat treats
$1 off Johnson’s Buddies Soaps
$1 off Johnson’s Buddies Soaps
(These soaps are on sale for less than $1 at Target and Wal-Mart.)

Hi – does anyone know of a Walgreens in DuPage or near Chicago (Roosevelt Rd) that is accepting the Dimetapp online coupons? I was told by the manager at the Carol Stream Walgreens that they received an email from the manufacturer to not accept online coupons anymore…bummer!

I have 8 of the Glade Plug in B1G1 you mentioned for this week. If you were me would you use all 8 or would you save some and hope for them to go on sale in addition to the catalina? They expire on November 8, 2008. I was just wondering how you’d play your cards .. I mean coupons.

I think I found a good deal on Kellogg’s cereal. I live in Chicago by a Treasure Island grocery store (part of the the Certi Saver Supermarkets http://www.certisaver.com ) and they have Kellogg’s Cereal for $1.88. On Jill’s coupons.com link they had a bunch of $1.00 off Kellogg’s cereal coupons so that’s $.88 a box! I called and checked with my store and they do except internet coupons so I am very excited to try it tonight when I have a car to cart it all home with!

Why not get six bottles free, instead of just five? Instead of using two $1 coupons on just the four bottles, buy SIX bottles and use one more $1 off two coupon! Six bottles @ $1 each. Three $1 off the purchase of two bottles. $6 minus $3 = $3. Then get $3 extra care bucks back!
