“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

While there are no current insert coupons for these, reader Melenie spotted .55 blinkies at Dominick’s. (Did you know that Jewel and Dominick’s have different in-store coupon suppliers? Doms uses SmartSource, while Jewel uses RedPlum/Valassis.) If you happen to be at Dominick’s, you could snag four blinkies, take them to Jewel and do the deal. After coupons, you’d pay $7.80 and get a $4 Catalina. That’s $3.80 for four cartons, or .95 each! A STEAL!

And, Betty Crocker mashed potatoes are .50 in the deal, even without a coupon. |
Jewel is running a “Snack Mania” instant savings sale (buy four snacks, receive $3 in instant-savings.) Unfortunately, nothing here looks too maniacal. The Nabisco crackers are $2.24 each (Ritz, Wheat Thins, etc.) when purchased in groups of four. Look on the display in store for $1-off-2 coupons that will drop these to $1.74.
“Spend $30, Save $10” Catalina Sale! Buying $30 worth of the items featured in the ad will generate a $10 Catalina! I didn’t receive a Jewel ad this week, but with these offers, the ads typically state “Minimum purchase requirement calculated after manufacturer coupons redeemed.” Note that these sales typically do work on your pre-coupon total at the register. However, if you choose to do the deal in that way, you do take the risk upon yourself in the event that it does not print. Make sure your calculations are correct! A UPC list for this sale is here. Here are your products and matchups: 3M Scotch Mailing Tape (800in.) – no price in ad All Laundry Detergent (32-58oz.) – $3.99 Angel Soft Bath Tissue (18ct. double roll) – no price in ad Brawny Paper Towels (6 big roll) – no price in ad Clorox Bleach (82-96oz.) – $2 Cottonelle Bath Tissue (18ct. double roll) – no price in ad Energizer Batteries (8ct AA and AAA)- $5.49 Finish Dishwasher Detergent (Powerball, Gelpacs or Quantum 22.7-24.6oz.) – $5.99 Finish Jet Dry – no price in ad Hefty One Zip Bags (12-22ct.) – $2 Hefty Waste Bags (20-80ct.) – $6.49 Huggies Diapers, Pull-Ups and Goodnites (Jumbo, various) – $9.99 Huggies Wipes (184-216ct.) – $6.29 Kleenex Facial Tissue (3-pack bundle) – $4.99 Kleenex Hand Towels (55ct.) – $2.49 Lysol cleaners, wipes, and toilet bowl (various) – no prices in ad Palmolive Dish Detergent – (25oz.) – $2.50 Quilted Northern Bath Tissue (12ct. double roll) – $6.49 Scott Bath Tissue (12ct.) – $7.99 Scott Mega Paper Towels (8ct.) – $7.99 Snuggle Fabric Softener (32-50oz. liquid, 120ct. sheets) – $3.99 Sparkle Paper Towels (8ct. giant roll) – no prices in ad Sylvania Light Bulbs (CFL 3-4ct., various) – $5.99 Viva Paper Towels (6ct. giant roll) – $10.99 Wisk Laundry Detergent (100oz.) – $8.99 DEAL IDEAS: The All laundry detergent is a pretty good price here, post-coupon. There is also a $10/$30 Catalina sale on ALL baby products starting soon and running from 10/20-10/26. The Huggies MAY double-dip if this first $10/$30 Catalina overlaps by a day, as sometimes they do. New and beginner couponers, please understand that there are NO GUARANTEES until we try it, but if you’re chasing a Huggies deal, I’d wait and experiment around 10/19-10/20. If they overlap, $30 worth of Huggies would trigger $20 in Catalinas. [For example IF the double-dip works… you could buy one Huggies Slip On Jumbo packs and one Pull Ups ($19.98) and two Huggies Wipes (now $32.56.) Use $2 Pull-Ups coupon, $2 Slip On ecoupon, and $1 wipes ecoupon. Get $20 back in Catalinas, ultimately paying $7.56 for two jumbo packs and two big packs of wipes. Or, buy 6 Huggies Wipes at $31.45. Use the $1-off-2 wipes ecoupon and get $20 back in Catalinas. That’s $10.45 for 6 big refills, or about $1.74 each!] |

- Sweet onions are $1.29/lb.
- Fresh green asparagus is $1.99/lb.
(Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 per pound is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
UPDATE: With beef prices (commodities) slated to rise, some reader have emailed to ask if I would also blog the $2.49 or less meat deals. I will now be including meat deals up to $2.49/lb. in weekly writeups.
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s is also offering Deal Match, where you can load price-matching offers from Jewel and Target to your Fresh Values Card. Try it at www.Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?

Here are your Hilander deals… View weekly ad
Hilander shoppers are reminded to stop in and get a free Schnucks Customer Card to replace the Hilander Plus card. They are offering a .10/gallon fuel bonus for registering for the new card by October 18th, and an additional .05/gallon savings if you register your card with an email address.
The Rockford-area Logli stores also share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford has been having a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The Scnhucks ad cycle is a WEDNESDAY to TUESDAY ad, which means these deals will now end on Tuesdays of the current week. These deals end TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18th.

Let’s add some manufacturer coupons..! The October All You has a $1.50-off-2 Snickers coupon, which will drop two bags to $2.50, or $1.25 each. (The 10/9 RP and 9/25 RP both have $1.50 off 3 coupons too, but the All You coupon will work best here.)
Or, do a deal with Nestle. Use this $1-off-2 printable or the $1-off-2 from the October All You, and stack it with the store coupon, and pay $3 for two bags, or $1.50 each.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Deals continuing from previous weeks
Did you see the nice $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupon in the 10/2 PG? You can score some free makeup at Walmart this week with it! Single-color Cover Girl Cheekers blushes and Enhancers eye shadows are $3.99 at most stores. Buy two… and with your coupon, pay NOTHING. They’re FREE!
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

has a “Buy any four items listed” and get a $5.00 gift card. Products included are Q-Tips, Suave cocoa butter lotion, Vaseline Men’s lotion, Dove 8-pack beauty bars, and Dove shampoo and conditioner.
I bought four Dove products (two shampoo and two conditioners) and used my ‘Buy One Get One Free’ Q from the 10/2 RP. They were on sale for $3.49 each. Pre-coupon price was $13.96. Post-coupon price was $6.98. Post-gift card price was $1.98. That’s just less than 50 cents each!
I am trying to find a coupon for Q-Tips as that is what I REALLY need!

FYI – I found the Dr Pepper 10 at Walgreens yesterday – wasn’t able to find it anywhere else (walmart, kmart, target etc)
Also – used the $2 off powder tide as instructed in the post at Dom’s yesterday and received the overage. yay!

Hi Jill and all,
I went to the Algonquin Meijer yesterday and bought two DiGiorno pizzas and I didn’t get the $1 Cat. I had to go to the service desk and they gave me a store credit for the $1 but it also says it in my mealbox but they couldn’t seem to find it in their list of cats.
Beware!
Have a good trip this week couponing everyone!

Various Jewel stores have a special wrap-around advertising Wisk at 5.99 thru 10/19, that’s $3 less than in their regular ad. Some of these stores are Lake Zurich, Barrington, and Palatine so other Jewels may have this special price as well.

If you like listerine pocketpacks, they are on sale right now at Walgreens for 2.99, get 2$ RR. There’s a .50/1 on 10/9 RP, making them 50cents. Surprisingly I got 1/1 catalina with my RR so you can do it over and over again to get them for FREE!

So I went ot Dominicks to do the juice deal. The sale is only for Welch’s Essentials and Welch’s light, NOT the 100% juice. If I am looking at the $1 off coupon correctly, it is just for the 100% juice. Please let me know if I am reading this one wrong. Super disappointing because we are really in need of some juice besides Mott’s apple :(

I only have four bags…. I keep holding out for TOTAL AWESOMENESS, but am getting worried.
I don’t usually do CVS, but I’m wondering if I should jump in there. Can the coupon from the magic coupon machine be used only once?? SO it will only knock down the price of 2 bags of candy?? Or is it like a Walgreens in-ad coupon where a single coupon can be used on more than one item??
I guess I’m just confused about CVS in general…
What do you think? Should I jump or wait?
mommysaves says
I did the DiGiorno deal on Friday morning and got the Cat. So, perhaps they were having problems with the machine or something?

The Bolingbrook Walgreens at Boughton and Whitewater (695 W Boughton) has an additional .50 cent coupon available for the “free after register reward” Walgreens Ultra Thin Pads 18ct for customers that check out at the cosmetics register. This would make the product a .50 cent moneymaker. You would pay $1.50 and get back a $2 Register Reward. Also anyone that has a Prescription Savings Club card would get a 10% bonus on the card since this is a Walgreens product

but just wanted to remind if you are looking for Capri Sun at Dominicks to check your just4U Personalized deals. I have it on mine for $1.69, making my Capri Sun just $0.69 each.

The deal says you have to buy 10…and they will be a dollar each. The coupon says you can only use 4 coupons in 1 shopping trip. Correct me, if I am wrong…but the numbers aren’t working out. Is there a different coupon?
stringofpearls says
There is a manufacturer’s coupon for $1 off Almay color cosmetic product from the back of 10/9/2011 Walmart flier. I was wondering if I could use this one at CVS (as their eye shadow comes down to $1.99 after their extrabucks and hence 99 cents after the coupon)? I see one long bar code on it, not both, but it does say “manufacture coupon” on it.

I have to get some diapers today, I only have one left! Which deal is the best? Mom 2 mom diapers at dominicks or the name brand ones at the other places? I could get a smaller pack at one of the stores and wait for the deal that may double dip on Wednesday, just not sure which is the best?? Thanks for any help!

I tried this deal and it didn’t work for me b/c my total went below $30 after using coupons so I didn’t get the Catalina. I know Jill says it’s a risk to do it this way but I thought I’d give it a try since some said it did work for them. That being said, I did pretty well with my coupons, so I guess I’ll chalk this one up to a learning experience. You win some, you lose some :)

I live in the northwest area and it is in the 10/9 RP together with the other listerine products. If you don’t have it, it is still worth to spend 99 cents on the first one and get it for free on the next few times as you get the 1/1 cat. did this again today and it worked, sometimes it even spits out two 1/1 cat :)

Is anyone else missing the 10/16 SmartSource from this Sunday’s paper? I receive 2 papers and have gone through each bundle page by page and have only found the P&G and RedPlum inserts.
Also, I don’t seem to have the $8 off 2 Cover Girl coupon in the 10/2 P&G. I have a $1 off one item. Again, I’ve read through every page and I feel like I’m going a little nutty here…any help? I’ve even asked my husband to go through and ready every page.
THANK YOU!

Well I had written them off but was lured back by the possible skippy deal. I sort my q’s by store but wouldn’t give Dominick’s it’s own slot till it proved worthy.
I wish I had asked the cashier her name. She couldn’t have been any nicer if she tried. I had forgot to load my jfu & q for the peanut butter so she kindly walked me through the process (while managing a checkout lane at the same time) on their computer. It’s been so long since I’ve shopped there I couldn’t remember if I had even been registered. Well it all worked out. It’s hard to read the register as things ring up and she was very patient explaining how it worked. This was my last stop of many. You know how a day like that can be with the eye rolling or glares or gliches. Well she made up for it all. I felt like I had been bombarded with kindness. I think I’m having an “I can’t believe someone was so nice to me” hangover this morning. I should mention this woman was “older”. I’ve seen a lot of gripes on other sites about “older” cashiers. Even if they were out of stock or my coupons didn’t work I would still go back just because of her.
So I’ll write up tag and Dominick’s will have it’s permanent slot in my q folder.
ps this was the D’s on Randall in what I think would be Geneva

I happened to notice on the clearance shelf, at the Eola Jewel in Aurora, that they had Mr. Clean 40 oz. bottles for $1.49! When I went home I discovered the coupon in the 10-16 PG buy 2 and get 1 free (up to $3.49 value)! I went back the next day and got three of the large bottles for $3!

I just got back from my unfriendly neighborhood Jewel. This particular store loaded the new circular info before midnight and they said that the new prices, deals, etc. were active. Before I even grabbed the Huggies wipes and Pull-ups, I asked if I could see how the Catalinas printed and if it was not what I had expected, could we void the transaction and could I get my coupons back. I asked this question in front of 3 cashiers and they said sure, no problem. So I complete the a transaction of 2 Pull-ups and 2 wipes, handed over 2 $2 Pull-up Qs, then tried to give them some Walgreen’s RR. The cashier refused the RRs! Redeemable at Walgreens only..blah..blah.blah. Ugh. I rolled with it and just took those back and paid. Unfortunately, not all the Catalinas print until you pay…I reviewed the Catalinas and only single $10. I asked if I could void the last transaction and the cashier about flipped out! He was very angry and said he could not void the transaction. Great. I ask if he can pull my 2 coupons, put them aside, and that I would come back tomorrow to return the Pull-ups and wipes. So he tries to take back the $10 Catalina! Seriously! I just said the Catalina is mine until I do the return. Total disaster! (I also heard him bad mouthing me afterwards, too!) I’m frustrated because I had explained what I wanted to try and all I got was attitude!

I went to Huntley Jewel tonight to stock up on the GM promo and GLL Bonus Box Tops. (yes…I always wait to the last minute)
I knew that I needed to keep my GM items at 20. I started my next round of 20 and didn’t get the 2 $5 instant GM coupons.
After bringing everything to the car in this windy cold weather with 2 kids, I looked at my receipt and realized that it didn’t work.
I had four 25 Bonus Box Top coupons so I knew that I got the right items. I went to CS and they gave me the eye roll, I apologized and said I was sorry. She stepped away and came back with a $10 off your next purchase that expires on 11/2.
How long do you need to wait between transactions for your card to “regenerate”?
Should I have asked for the $10 in cash or do you think the $10 off is a good thing and I should not complain?
Thanks for your help and advice in advance. :)
PS – The red seedless grapes looked awesome tonight, no price in sight…when asked…the produce guy walked over to another group of grapes and said “probably $1.98/lb”! I was like no way…I’ll wait til they go for .88/lb tomorrow. kind of frustrating though!

Hey Jill! I love your site and have been saving TONS since I started couponing last December. I always check your “Deals of the Week” a few times throughout the week. Sometimes I notice that you “UPDATE” the post but find it really hard to figure out what exactly you updated. Maybe you could add updates in red or another color so that we can easily spot what you’ve updated :) Just a suggestion, do with it what you will. Thanks for all you do!
