With the deals above, buying the total dollar amount required (NOT including tax! Make sure you are over, pre-tax) will generate your Catalinas. However, you can potentially save even more money on these already great deals.
If you are VERY NEW at couponing and not comfortable doing a high-level Catalina deal differently than what the ad specifies, skip this and move on to the Dominick’s deals for this week. But if you are comfortable with a higher-level deal…
My black belt couponers know that these deals typically work differently at Jewel than at any other store.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never done a high-level Catalina deal at Jewel before, please read this short overview of the way the price structure works. In a nutshell, if you base your dollar-spent mark on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket.
If this makes no sense or is the least bit confusing to you… do NOT do the deal in this way. These high-level Catalina deals can be very confusing, especially when you’re new at this. If you are new, use the PREFERRED price only, and you’ll get the Catalina every time. |
But if you’re a “black belt” couponer and want to maximize your savings… here are some of the best deals. Again, if you use these scenarios and do not get your Catalina, DO NOT go to Customer Service and ask them to make it right for you. You WILL NOT have purchased what the ad states that you must. Again, YOU are taking the risk on these deals. You must be willing to accept ANY outcome without complaining, even if it means not getting any Catalinas at all.
Further sweetening the deal? There’s a separate Catalina going on many of the Pillsbury products! For buying 6 or more tagged Pillsbury products , you get $4 back in Catalinas. AND, there’s also a $3.50 Cat double-dipping with this too when you buy 5 fruit snacks. So.. check these out…

Buy 1 Betty Crocker Brownie mix
$16 pre-coupons
Use four .55 Simply Cookies coupons and one $1 coupon
Pay $12.80 and get $14 back! YUMMY and FREE… plus a moneymaker!
OR, if you prefer, instead of brownies, use a bag of Gold Medal Flour as your last item. With the .50 flour coupon above, it’s another great deal!
An all-cookies deal

$20 pre-coupons
Use four $1-off-2 coupons from above
Pay $16 and get $14 back. 8 packages of cookies for $2! That’s just .25 each!

With four .30 off 2 coupons, pay $13.80 and get $14 back. FREE Grands and a moneymaker!

An all-Cheerios deal
Buy 8 boxes of Cheerios.
With no coupons, pay $16 and get $10 back.

With four .75 coupons (printables above), pay $9 and get $10 back. FREE cereal and a $1 moneymaker!
An all-Total deal
Buy 6 boxes of Total cereal.
With no coupons, pay $12 and get $10 back.
With two.75 coupons (printable), pay $10.50 and get $10 back. That works out to about .08 a box!
An all-Progresso deal
Buy 9 cans of Progresso High Fiber soup
With no coupons, pay $15 and get $10 back.
With two $1.10 coupons and two .25 coupons, pay $12.30 and get $10 back. CHEAP soup!
An all-canned-vegetables deal
Buy 20 cans of Green Giant vegetables (MAKE SURE they are the 4/$3 varieties – there are others NOT in the deal!)
Pay $15 and get $10 back. TWENTY cans of vegetables for $5 – that’s .25 a can!
An all-brownies deal
Buy 11 boxes of Betty Crocker Traditional brownies.
Pay $11 with no coupons and get $10 back! That’s less than a dime a box…
REMEMBER… ALWAYS, ALWAYS verify prices at your store at the price-checker BEFORE using the above scenarios. You are using these matchups at YOUR OWN RISK.
Over at Dominick’s… among my two different newspapers I receive (Tribune and Herald) – neither one has had Dominick’s flyers either last Wednesday or this past Sunday. Does Dominick’s even WANT people to shop there any more? I suppose I could go look up their flyer online, if there is even a new one at all … or, I could skip to Meijer, where there’s more going on anyway :)
(Sorry Doms… you snooze, you lose.)
Update: bekahbol708 in our Forum has posted a good deal on Mott’s apple juice through Wednesday at Dominick’s. Buy in quantities of 5, and the price drops to .88 a bottle – no coupons needed. Thanks for posting!
At Meijer, Ideal no-calorie sweetener continues to be FREE with a coupon! Grab the 9/13 RP insert and clip your Ideal coupon!
There’s an unadvertised Catalina deal running on Breakstone’s cottage cheese. Many varieties are $1 each. Buy 3 and get a $3 Catalina for your next shopping trip – FREE cottage cheese! This is scheduled to run through 10/31.
Here’s another unadvertised Catalina deal for Meijer! Buy 5 cans Campbell’s condensed soups and one loaf Pepperidge Farms bread and get a $5 Catalina.
Soups are around .58 a can, and many varieties of bread are $2.49. With these, pay $5.39 and get a $5 Catalina back!
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes. This is why I don’t blog too many Meijer deals…
Continuing at Target, if you remember the Chef Michael’s dog food deal from a few weeks ago, it’s back again, and the price is almost as good as last time! Bags of Chef Michael’s are $4.49 at Target. Use the $3 manufacturer coupon from 10/11 SS and stack it with the $1 Target coupon from 8/30 SS. You’ll pay just .49 a bag!
Continuing again this week at Target, you could potentially take home some CHEAP mascara! Rimmel “Extra Super Lash” is marked down to $2.24 at many Target locations. Pair this with the $2 coupon from 8/23 RP and/or October All You and take it home for just .24 — this variety is the only kind I’m aware of being marked down, so check with the price scanner to make sure you’ve got the right one.
Over at Kmart, did you happen to see the front page of their current flyer? No, no doubles this week… but they are having their great end-of-summer clothing clearance! All summer apparel (man, woman, and child) is $1.99 – regardless of what it is. Last year, my family really enjoyed this sale, and we stocked up on lots of things for NEXT summer…
For my Rockford-area readers, Hilander Duncan Hines cake mixes are FREE after coupon! They’re on sale for $1, and the .45 coupon from 10/11 Smartsource will double… making them FREE!
Febreze Noticeables are free this week too! They’re on sale for $5.99. Stack the $4 coupon from 9/27 PG with the $3 coupon from www.pgesaver.com and they’ll be free… with overage!
Have you seen the electronic coupons for Hilander/Kroger stores? SoftCoin recently added support for Kroger stores (including Hilander) for their new electronic coupons for Unilever products! Click here to check them out… they load to your card the same way that Cellfire/PGE/ShortCuts do, meaning we now have FOUR sets of electronics we can stack with at Kroger stores. WOW!
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens, the good deal on Gillette Fusion MVP razors continues! They are $8.99. Use the $4 coupon from 9/27 PG, pay $4.99… and get $6 back in RRs! FREE razor and a MONEYMAKER!
More RR freebies…
ChapStik Fresh Effects are $2.99 with a $2.99 RR! FREE!

Sure for Men deodorant is free this week too! It’s on sale for $2.50. Stack the $1.50 coupon from 10/18 SS with the $1.50 coupon from the Walgreens flyer, and you’ll take this home for free, with possible overage…
Reese’s candy bars are 2 for $1 with the coupon in this week’s Walgreens flyer. Use the .55 coupon from 8/23 SS and take these home for FREE, with possible overage!
And over at CVS, Glade reed diffusers are FREE after ECB! They’re $6.99 with a $6.99 ECB. Use the $3 coupon from 10/4 SS to make this a $3 moneymaker!

10/18 SS – FREE roll of Marcal toilet paper, paper towels, or facial tissue (exp. 11/30/09)

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically 20-30 of them. Many websites are now tracking the All You coupons and matching them to deals, just as they do with the newspaper coupon inserts. You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I was at Meijer on Sat and did the soup/bread deal. The lowest priced soup, which was on sale was .65 (cream of mushroom). Most were quite a bit more – over $1. I had a coupon for Campbells. I had a bunch of mealbox coupons – none of which would scan, so somehow the order got messed up and the cat didn’t print, but CS just wrote me one. (Sat was one of their supersales, so I got a bunch of Stouffer’s French Bread Pizzas – $1.49/box on sale, but had a mealbox coupon for $1 on 3, then got $1 cat for every 3. I also got some kleenex on sale for .89 and then had both a mealbox and man coupon as well. )

There are also $1.00 coupons for the Pillsbury Simply Cookies in the 9/13 GM…makes buying those an even sweeter deal.

Not that I really feel like defending Dominick’s but…
Missing inserts are probably the fault of the newspaper or the delivery service. My papers Wed and Sun both had Dom’s inserts. So did the mail advertiser that I get every week.
In the past I regularly got shorted various advertising inserts on any given week. Or got 5 of the same ones, from a store I didn’t care about anyway. Or didn’t get my comics, magazine, tv guide, or other important section.
shlee says
I have 2 or 3 $3 cats from the kleenex deal to spend by today and there is nothing I want from Dominick’s….no good deals at all. So don’t worry about missing those ads, Jill, there was nothing to write about anyway!

I read on another blog about a good deal on Newman’s Pizza, but I didn’t find the price at my Doms. I put back the Armour lunchable and actually walked out empty handed, I never do that. I should have just spent my limited time at Jewel doing deals.
mariposabrant says
I live in Chicago and the Jewel Spend $25, Get $10 deal at Jewel did not generate a Catalina. I do the Catalina deals all the time without problems, but this time was told that $25 has to be spent after you scan your Jewel-Osco card. I ended up returning everything.
J.R. says
I’m not finding the $1.10 off 3 Progresso coupon linked to above. All that shows up is a $.50 off the broth box, which isn’t part of the sale.
Is there a corrected link, or is this one gone already?
J.R. says
Got a question for Jill, or any one else whose a “black belt” at figuring out the best deals for these big CAT offers…
What’s the key you look for? I know in her class, Jill mentioned looking for the cheapest item in the ad when it’s something like “Buy 4, get $5 back”. But in these Jewel deals, I’m thinking you’re looking for the biggest difference between the “regular” price and the preferred / sale price after coupons. Is that right?
Gotta feed my “rocket scientist” quest for knowledge.

at my store the extra pillsbury cat that prints out has been $4 not $2….. wyb 6……so for the 5 fruit snacks and 6 pillsbury rolls last night i paid $.88 OOP (my tax was $.83)and got back $17.50…..i had $17.50 in cats and used 2-$.75/3 pillsbury q’s and 1-$.50/2 & 1-$.40 q for the fruit snacks……really it could be a money maker if i would’ve used my other $.50/2 Q but I didn’t because I wanted to be able to use all my cats so i held on to it instead.
i may try and do this again before tomorrow……only a nickel plus tax for 6 pills rolls and 5 fruit snacks!

Jill,
At my store (maybe different at your store?) the shelf price for the Grands is $2.46 so you would need to buy 11 for $18.37 (before coupons), get back a $10 cat and a $4 cat.

Does anyone know where (what posting) the UPC list is located for this sale?

8/23 SS has a coupon for BOGO Reeses PB cups and Jewel also has them BOGO right now. The coupon is limited to 79 cents, and the cups are $1.00, so they won’t be totally free, but 5.5 cents per package is pretty good :)
Remember- one coupon for every two packages :)

I went to Jewel today and bought 6 boxes of cereal that totaled 26.00 before preferred card and coupons. I not only got my catalina for $10.00 off next purchase, I got a 5.00 when you spend 50.00 catalina and a free 20oz coke product! My total cost ….$8.11.
Alice says
I went today and did 6 rolls and two pie crusts. Noticed after transaction and when I didn’t receive the 10.00 cat but did get the 4.00 pillsbury cat. I discovered the cashier entered my five dollar catalina as grocery. I went to customer service returned my order to rebuy, gave them back the 4.00 cat for pillsbury. Went to self checked made sure the cashier scanned the coupon and not only did I not get the 10.00 catalina I didn’t get the four dollar pillsbury one either.
How is that for being honest. I kept this order since I didn;t want customer service thinking I was crazy since they insisted I didn’t spend 25.00.
Did anyone notice the ad doesn’t state with perferred card spend 25.00?

IF I did the deal today and got my $10.00 & $4.00 CATS can I go back to night and use the CATS on the same deal to pay? If I do will I get the CATS again?

Meijer has 16oz. Kraft dressings on sale for $1.58 with a printable Mealbox coupon for $1/1 and no limit per transaction. This brings the price of the dressing down to $0.58. There was also tear pads for Buy 2 Kraft dressing get free produce up to $1.00. I found the tear pads at the St. Charles Meijer in the center aisle dressing display. Not a bad deal for dressing and a little free produce too!
