“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

(Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 per pound is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
UPDATE: With beef prices (commodities) slated to rise, some reader have emailed to ask if I would also blog the $2.49 or less meat deals. I will now be including meat deals up to $2.49/lb. in weekly writeups.
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s is also offering Deal Match, where you can load price-matching offers from Jewel and Target to your Fresh Values Card. Try it at www.Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?

Here are your Hilander deals… View weekly ad
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford has been having a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The Scnhucks ad cycle is a WEDNESDAY to TUESDAY ad, which means these deals will now end on Tuesdays of the current week. These deals end TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25th.

If you’re still sitting on any of those nice $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupons from the 10/2 PG insert, this would be a good week to use them at CVS! Cover Girl cosmetics are involved in an Extra Care Bucks deal – buy $10 worth of non-clearanced cosmetics and get $3 back in Extra Care Bucks! Eye shadow multipacks and professional powder are both priced at $5.99. Buy two at $5.99 ($11.98.) Use the $8 coupon and pay $3.98. Jumbo packs of CVS Diapers or Training Pants are on sale for $6.99. Buy a pack and get $2 back in Extra Care Bucks, making them $4.99! (You’ll also get credit for the “Buy 6 Jumbo Packs, get 7th FREE” promo CVS is running too…
CVS has a new gift card promotion running. From October 16 through December 25, 2011, members of CVS/pharmacy’s ExtraCare Rewards program can earn $10 gift cards to Macy’s, Gap, Applebee’s, Shell Stations, American Express, Barnes & Noble or CVS/pharmacy each week simply by spending $30 on products clearly marked as part of the “Earn Free Gift Cards” promotion.
Your coupon(s) for free gift card(s) will print on your receipt immediately following qualifying purchase(s) of $30 or more. Gift card selections may vary by store. Limit 5 free $10 gift cards per cardholder per week.
(Did you catch that you can get CVS/pharmacy gift cards too? Perfect for rolling over into a future deal!)
Best bets for the current week? Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of big standouts this week, but I’m liking a couple of things…
Kleenex Facial Tissue (78-110ct.) – $1
– .50 off 3 – 10/2 SS
Scott Choose-A-Size Mega Rolls (6ct.) – $6
– $1 off – 10/23 SS
DEAL IDEAS: All of these will require multiples of the same coupon to pull off, but they’re decent deals.
An all-Kleenex deal: Buy 30 boxes ($30.)
Use ten .50-off-3 coupons.
Pay $25 and get $10 back. $15 for 30 boxes is .50 each.
An all-Scott deal:
Buy five 6ct. Scott ($30.)
Use five $1 coupons.
Pay $25 and get $10 back. $15 for 5 is $3 each.
Remember that these deals run all week, and you don’t have to buy all of the items in the same shopping trip. Your CVS card will keep track for you and print the $10 gift card voucher when you hit $30.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
64-load Just The Basics laundry detergent is $3.99
Bumble Bee Tuna (5oz. chunk light) is .77 a can.
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Deals continuing from previous weeks
Did you see the nice $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupon in the 10/2 PG? You can score some free makeup at Walmart this week with it! Single-color Cover Girl Cheekers blushes and Enhancers eye shadows are $3.99 at most stores. Buy two… and with your coupon, pay NOTHING. They’re FREE!
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Hi Jill,
I don’t know how you keep all of this straight. Sometimes my head is spinning trying to figure out what I am going to do on my next shopping trip.
I am just wondering on the Cheez-its coupon being used at CVS. My coupon has a size greater than what is on sale.9.75-14oz. I was going to use it but read the fine print. Is there another coupon you are referring to?

Hi Jill I was just reading the sale match ups and I saw a small typo the Indiana popcorn. Is 1.99.

I did the Post deal Saturday and got no Catalina. Because it wasn’t an advertised Catalina the CS wouldn’t help. What do you do in that situation Jill?

My Just For U Coupon Center had a coupon: .88 for Nancy Martin Bread. Not a bad deal.

It would be really helpful if Pillsbury.com had their website fully up and running. All I find is a single column of items down the entire page. No coupons can be accessed. It’s Monday morning Pillsbury! Get your IT people going.

And if you need it, not a terrible deal at Jewel with Maxwell House coffee–buy one and get a free box of cereal.

I don’t get how to get the Crest toothpaste free @ Jewel. all the varieties tagged 10/$10 are the excluded ones. The rest are 2/$5
And my Jewel (TP) did not have Marshmallow Pebbles :sigh:

Just a few things to pass along.
I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but I may have just missed it. The Dominick’s in Carpentersville will be closing. They told us November 11th, but the store is quickly becoming more and more empty and a neighbor mentioned that she was told they are closing the end of this month. At any rate – it will be gone within the next couple of weeks.
Also – Kmart is currently DOUBLING all coupons (if you are a member of their rewards program – it’s free & easy to sign up if you aren’t!!) up to 99 cents.

Hi,
Is anyone else missing the Smart Sources insert? (I have all the other ones!) I didn’t receive it last week either (but the Red Plum and P&G inserts were still there). It wasn’t in the plastic wrap section, nor was it in with the rest of the paper. Do I contact the Tribune about this?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Meijer has Suave shampoo/kids stuff on sale for 3/$5. I combined that with 2 BOGO Qs from 10/2 RP and got 4 bottles for $3.32 which is $0.83 each. The Q’s expire on the 30th – I debated waiting but I figured this price is pretty good if you need shampoo/conditioner.

I was just at jewel and bought this. I got a $.55 OYNO for buying it. Does anyone know how long this lasts and/or if its a higher amount if you buy several?

I tried the refreshe deal today in Fox Lake… I bought 3 -12 packs of refreshe soda and it was $5.00, but there was no catalina printed for the blockbuster deal. Am I missing something? Or was it just a glitche with their registers?
reeamos23 says
Meijers in NWI.
I just went to meijers last night and they have ore ida potatoes on sale 2for 5. Their flyer says when you buy 2 you get one free. So I put it with the 1.50/3 Q from
10/9 ss, to get them for 1.16 each. But when I went to the counter I got a $1 catalina, they were only .83 a bag ! Going back for more today! I love couponing.

Hi,
There is a deal at Walgreens for the Axe shower gel and detailer. It’s buy 1 get 1 half off. There is a coupon for buy 1 get 1 FREE in this Sunday’s paper but I’m not sure which insert.
I did this deal for buy 1 get 1 half off. I used my buy 1 get 1 free coupon and got the full priced item for free ($5.79.) So I only paid $2.90 cents for 2 and the bottles that I purchased had 50% more in each bottle so that was a bonus. I did this deal twice. I just wanted to make sure it worked correctly before I bought more. I may be going back to buy more for the week is out.
Did anyone else do this deal?

I checked my coupons FROM walgreens and i have a $2 off to make this even sweeter! I have gotten some from Jewel for $1.50 off Axe too. check your stash.

I apologize if this is not appropriate for here …. does anyone have the $1.00 of Meow Mix coupon from this past weekend’s insert that they will not be using? The coupon is good on bagged food, or 4 of the small Selects tubs, which my picky cat eats. So if anyone has no use for these particular cat food coupons, I’d love to trade coupons if there’s something you are looking for. Thank you in advance!!!

The Special K crackers at my CVS had peelies on them for $1.00 off 2 including the Special K Chips. Bought 8 crackers and 8 chip for 31.84 less $8 in coupons and got my $10 gift card for spending over $30 – .87 per box

I bought four Ore-Ida bags (part of the buy 10, save $5 deal) at Jewel expecting the $3 cat. Only a $1 one printed. When I looked up the deal online, most sites say the catalina deal ended on 10/17; if so, why did I get $1? Is it worth going back to the store to try to get my $3 cat? Did this deal truly expire already?
