Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel, Arm & Hammer toothpaste is very cheap after a coupon! It’s on sale for $3.69, buy one, get one free. Use the $3 off 2 coupon from 8/16 SS and take two tubes home for just .69, or about .35 a tube!
Like fresh salsa? Wholly Salsa is a steal this week too… — it’s $2.99, buy one get one free. We’re going to use two coupons on this deal and really bring that price down — and with two $1 coupons from either 10/25 SS or printables, pay just .99 for two, or under .50 each!
Forum reader Mi spotted a GREAT deal on apples if you’ve done the Jewel Preferred Card update… 3lb. bags of red delicious apples are on sale B1G1F. Use the coupon for a free bag of apples that’s in the book… and get TWO free!
Update: Some readers are reporting that the apples are NOT B1G1F at their store… check yours.
Jewel also has a $15/$5 Catalina deal running on selected Heinz products this week — spend $15 and get $5 back. If you need any of these products, it’s an “okay” deal, but nothing huge is jumping out at me. And, if you’re planning on working this one in the “black belt” (advanced) way, be very careful to watch the prices on these items, as they are different at almost every store.
Over at Dominick’s, they have a very good deal going on meats! Anytime meat (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry or seafood) is under $1.99 a pound, it’s stock-up time… and Dominick’s has the following meats on sale for just .99 a pound… that’s HALF than our “rule of thumb” for good meat prices, so if you’ve got a freezer, now’s the time to buy:
- Rib half sliced pork loin
- Jennie-O Turkey Breast
- Fresh Perdue roasting chicken
- Boneless pork sirloin chops
These prices are already fabulous, but what could make them even better? COUPONS. There are several out for the Jennie O turkey breasts — find a $1 off coupon in 7/26 SS and a .75 coupon in 9/27 SS to make these even cheaper. 8/30 SS has an expired Jennie O coupon too.
While at Dominick’s, take a look at some of their produce deals this week too, as they’re good. All of these things are just a DOLLAR a pound!
- Red seedless grapes
- Bartlett pears
- Eating Right bagged baby-cut carrots
- Sweet yellow onions
- Gala, Jonathan, or Red Delicious apples
- Acorn, Butternut or Spaghetti squash
These produce items are a good deal too, at $1 each:
- Large Hass avocados
- Celery stalk bunches
- Iceberg lettuce heads
- Extra-large green bell peppers
There are again some Dominick’s Super Coupons in their Wednesday ads. You can stack manufacturer coupons with any of these that you may have manufacturer coupons for too (use www.coupontom.com or www.hotcouponworld.com [expired database]) for matchups.
Best SUPER COUPONS this week?
.99 18-ct. Lucerne large eggs
$1.99 Simply Orange orange juice (1/25 SS has .55 or $1 off)
$1.69 Clorox bleach (if Clorox 2 is included, 8/2 RP has $1 off)
A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons: All of the Super Coupons require a total purchase of $20 or more to use. But, the “Minimum $20 purchase” applies to the REGULAR, non-sale price of those items. Really! It’s even spelled out very well on Safeway’s corporate site:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases before your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include the coupon item’s regular price, not the discounted price. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and before Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
So, knowing this, getting over that $20 mark isn’t as hard as it seems. Mix and match what you like, and remember too that if you work any other items into your trip from this week’s deals, they too will count toward your $20.
At Meijer, Ideal no-calorie sweetener continues to be FREE with a coupon! Grab the 9/13 RP insert and clip your Ideal coupon!
Kraft Miracle Whip is a good buy this week too. It’s $1.59 a jar, and with the $1 coupon from Mealbox, it’s just .59…
Jell-o gelatin is cheap this week as well. Boxes are on sale for .45 each. Buy 5, use the $1 off 5 coupon from Mealbox, and you’ll pay just a quarter a box…
The Catalina deal running on Breakstone’s cottage cheese continues too. Many varieties are $1 each. Buy 3 and get a $3 Catalina for your next shopping trip – FREE cottage cheese! This is scheduled to run through 10/31.
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes. This is why I don’t blog too many Meijer deals…
Here’s a new tidbit about Target… if you take reusable bags with for your shopping trip, you’ll get a .05 savings on your total for every bag you bring and use! We like free money :)
Continuing yet again this week, bags of Chef Michael’s dog food are $4.49 at Target. Use the $3 manufacturer coupon from 10/11 SS and stack it with the $1 Target coupon from 8/30 SS. You’ll pay just .49 a bag!
And continuing again this week at Target, you could potentially take home some CHEAP mascara! Rimmel “Extra Super Lash” is marked down to $2.24 at many Target locations. Pair this with the $2 coupon from 8/23 RP and/or October All You and take it home for just .24 — this variety is the only kind I’m aware of being marked down, so check with the price scanner to make sure you’ve got the right one.
For my Rockford-area readers, Hilander Starkist Tuna pouches are FREE after this coupon deal! They’re on sale for .50. Use these .50 .50 printable coupons, which will double to $1 each, and take home two pouches for FREE!
Also free at Hilander… Reach dental floss! It’s on sale for a buck, and with the $1 coupons from 6/14 SS and 10/4 SS, it’s free. The 3/15 SS has a .50 coupon which will double to $1, making a third floss free for you too :)
And continuing this week, Duncan Hines cake mixes are FREE after coupon too! They’re on sale for $1, and the .45 coupon from 10/11 Smartsource will double… making them FREE!
Have you seen the electronic coupons for Hilander/Kroger stores? SoftCoin recently added support for Kroger stores (including Hilander) for their new electronic coupons for Unilever products! Click here to check them out… they load to your card the same way that Cellfire/PGE/ShortCuts do, meaning we now have FOUR sets of electronics we can stack with at Kroger stores. WOW!

I’ve been receiving a fair amount of email asking for laundry soap deals. If you missed the fabulous Catalina deal on All earlier this summer (where bottles of All were completely free after coupons and Catalinas), Wags has50-load bottles of Xcel detergent on sale for $1.99 each, no coupon needed. Not great… but better than paying full price, certainly.
And finally, over at CVS, Campbell’s soup is free with a coupon! It’s on sale for .50 a can. Use this $1 off 2 Campbells coupon and take two cans home for free… or print two and get FOUR!
Swanson chicken broth is pretty cheap here as well. It’s on sale for .50. Buy 3, use the .40 off 3 from 9/27 SS, and pay just .37 each…
If you’re having trouble finding the Gillette Fusion razors at Walgreens, CVS has a similar sale running. While not free, they end up pretty cheap. Buy the Gillette Fusion MVP at $9.99 and get $5 back in ECBs. With the same $4 coupon from 9/27 PG, the razor ends up costing you just .99…
And lastly, again on the topic of cheap(er) laundry detergent, CVS has Xtra 28-load bottles on sale for $1.50 each, no coupon needed. Not great… but better than paying full price, certainly.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically 20-30 of them. Many websites are now tracking the All You coupons and matching them to deals, just as they do with the newspaper coupon inserts. You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

At the 3 Jewel stores I typically shop, the Arm & Hammer is only priced at 3.19. (There are a couple types that are 5.49 so make sure you get the right ones.) I’ve gotten 14 tubes already and still have to use my last 3 coupons tonight.
Also, at the 2 SuperTargets near me, the Chef Michaels is on TPC for 4.26 right now BUT I’m pretty sure that price cuts ends tonight if I remember the signs correctly. If you can hurry and shop tonight, you will save just a little more money.

I don’t see this in my Jewel flyer. Does anyone know if this is just the salsa or is the Wholly Guacamole on sale as well? Thanks.

in my inserts, not $1.00….so I don’t think this deal will work. Where did you find the $1.00 off 1 coupon?

Woodman’s had tear pads for $1.25 off three jello-o gelatins, making them free over at Meijer. They were also on the back of holiday entertaining guides in the store too. The coupons include Philadelphia cream cheese or Baker’s chocolate too. Other stores may have these pads as well.

the oust coupon is for $2 on TWO and the CAT is for $1 NOT $2. So this isn’t that good of a deal in MHO. So your paying $5.98(2.99 x 2) – $2 coupon – $1 Cat = $3 for 2
