That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. Sunday’s paper has a new $100 Jewel-Osco coupon book inside! These coupons are good through 10/15, so make sure you hang onto the book not only for this week’s sales, but next week’s too. Best bets this week? In the order that they appear in the book…

Tyson Breaded Chicken (20.5-29oz.) is on sale for $5.99 a bag — not a good price. But use the $2 store coupon from the Jewel book and stack it with the $1 manufacturer coupon from the 8/21 SS insert. You’ll pay $2.99, a nice price! (Note that these are on sale for $3.50 at Meijer this week too – $2.50 after coupon.)

Jack O Lantern Pumpkins are $4.99 at Jewel, but just $2.99 after the $2 coupon from the book. This is cheaper than I’ve seen them at local pumpkin patches around here… of course, you’re not picking them at the patch though.

Hard shell squash is .99/lb. There’s a coupon in this week’s Jewel-Osco coupon booklet for Buy 2 pounds, get the 1st pound free! That’s TWO pounds for .99, or about .50/lb.

Bar-S Corn Dogs (3lbs.) are $5.99 a box. Use the coupon from the JO coupon booklet and get $2 off. You’ll pay $3.99!

Palermo’s Primo Thin Crust Pizzas (14.55-19.1oz.) are on sale for $5 each. The store coupon from the JO book is a $2-off-2. So, buy two and stack that with this $1-off-2 printable. You’ll pay $7 for two, or $3.50 each.

Krunchers Potato Chips (9oz.) are on sale for $2.50 per bag. The store coupon in the J) book is a $1-off-2, knocking these to $4 for two, or $2 per bag. There’s also a $1-off-2 manufacturer coupon in the 9/11 SS1. With this manufacturer coupon, pay $3 for 2 bags, or $1.50 each.

This is an “okay” price if you like Sun Chips, but since there are rarely deals on these, I included it. Sun Chips (10.5oz.) are on sale for $3.50 a bag – not a deal. The store coupon in the JO booklet is a $1-off-2, which drops these to $6 for two bags. There’s also a $1-off-2 in the 10/2 PEPSI. Stack it all together and you’re looking at $5 for two bags, or $2.50 each.

Starbucks Frappuccino or Double Shots (4-packs, 6.5-9.5oz. bottles) are on sale for $5 each. Use the $2-off-2 store coupon from the JO booklet and stack it with the $2-off-2 coupon from the 10/2 PEPSI. You’ll pay $6 for two, or $3 per 4-pack.

Windex Glass Cleaner (26oz.) is $2.69. Use the .70 store coupon from the JO book and stack it with the $1 off Multi-Surface Windex from the 9/25 SS. You’ll pay .99! There’s also a .50 coupon in the September All You for $1.49 Windex.

It’s baking season, and this is a good week to stock up on some pantry staples for your fall baking…

Argo Baking Powder (12oz.) is on sale for $1.29. Use the .30 coupon from 10/2 SS1 (L’Oreal on cover) and pay .99! Or, buy two and use the .90-off-2 coupon from the same insert. You’ll pay $1.68 for two, or .84 each!

Fleischmann’s Yeast (3-pack strip) is on sale for $1.49. Buy one and use the .50 coupon from 10/2 SS1. You’ll pay .99! Want more? Buy two and use the .90-off-2 coupon from the same insert. You’ll pay $2.08 for two, or $1.04 each.

Karo Corn Syrup (16oz. dark or light) is on sale for $2.29. Buy one and use the .40 coupon from 10/2 SS1. You’ll pay $1.89 after coupon. Or, buy two and use the .90-off-2 coupon from the same insert. You’ll pay $3.68 for two, or $1.84 each.

Bestlife Buttery Spread (15oz.) is on sale for $1.50. Use this $1 printable and pay .50!

Mrs. T’s Pierogies (12-16.9oz.) are on sale for $3.49, Buy One Get One Free. The 10/2 RP has a $1 coupon.

With one coupon, pay $2.49 for two, or about $1.25 each. With two coupons, pay $1.49 for two, or about .75 each! Yum!

The October issue of All You also has a $1-off-2 coupon.

Mentos UP2U gum is on sale for $1 per pack. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupons from the 9/11 SS1. You’ll pay $1 for two, or .50 each!

If you need pasta sauce Ragu is on sale for $1.50 a jar when you buy TWO. Use the $1-off-2 coupon in the weekly Jewel flyer and pay $2 for two, or $1 each.

Tropicana Pure Premium orange juice and Trop50 (59oz.) is $3.50. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 in the 10/2 PEPSI (for Trop50) or 8/28 RP (for Pure Premium.) You’ll pay $6 for two, or $3 each.

Jewel has a page of “10 for $10” items in the weekly ad. While at first glance this ad could look promising, look at the -sizes- of some of these things! 3 and 4-ounce cheeses?! I wonder if these tiny sizes were created just for this promotion At any rate, $1 for them is too high. (Note that Jewel has a 1.24oz. Kraft Grated Parmesan Cheese for $1, but Meijer’s ad has an 8-ounce container for $2.99. You’d only get 3.72 ounces of cheese if you bought the “special” $1 sizes.)

What IS good here: The 12-ounce Oscar Mayer Beef Bologna is fine for a buck. Ditto the Bull’s Eye or Kraft Barbecue sauces if you need them.

Jewel’s having a “Buy 5 and they’re $1.88 each” sale on General Mills cereal, granola bars and snacks! You must buy in groups of 5 to receive the $1.88 price, or you’ll pay $2.48 each. The Nature Valley granola bars are good here too as they double-dip a national Catalina deal!

(Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)

Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. • Mom To Mom big box diapers are $13.99, limit 4, with Super Coupon. The ad shows a size 4 82-count, which works out to about .17 per diaper. This is a fair price if you need them.
   
• Lucerne Large Egg (18ct.) are $1.99, limit 2, with Super Coupon.
   
• Pillsbury Toaster Strudel (10-25.1oz.) are $1.99, limit 4, with Super Coupon. Buy two and use the .50-off-2 coupon from 9/11 GM or a printable. You’ll pay $3.48 for two, or $1.74 each.

Buddig Thin Sliced Deli Meats (2oz.) are on sale for .59. Buy two and use the .55-off-2 coupon from 8/21 SS. You’ll pay .63 for two, or about .32 each!

Yoplait Go-Gurt or Trix Yogurt (6-8ct.) is on sale for $1.99. Buy two and use the .75-off-2 coupon from 9/11 GM or a printable. You’ll pay $3.23 for two, or about $1.62 each.

(Meijer’s also got these for $1.67 this week if you’re headed there – pay a little less!)

Dominick’s is running a “Mix and Match” sale. Buy any 8, and you’ll receive .50 instant savings on EACH item. The ad states over 3,000 products are included in the sale, so I’m showing what I feel are the best of what’s in the ad..!

This is the first week that Hilander is now operating under the Schnucks banner and ad. The current flyer reminds Hilander shoppers to stop in and get a free Schnucks Customer Card to replace the Hilander Plus card. They are offering a .10/gallon fuel bonus for registering for the new card by October 18th, and an additional .05/gallon savings if you register your card with an email address.

The Rockford-area Logli stores also share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads this week, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: The Scnhucks ad cycle is a WEDNESDAY to TUESDAY ad, which means these deals will now end on Tuesdays of the current week. These deals end TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4th. (Ouch.)

Use four $2 Powder Tide or Gain coupons and one .50 Tide coupon.
Pay $22.35 and get $10 back in ECBs! That’s $12.35 for 5 detergents, or $2.47 each, plus “free” Puffs.

A Charmin deal:

Buy 3 Charmin 16-roll packs ($30.)
Use three .25 coupons

Pay $29.25 and get $10 back in ECBs! That’s $19.25 for three big Charmin, or about $6.42 each. This works out to about .40 per double roll.

CVS is also running a “Spend $15, get $5 in ECBs” sale on P&G products (when it rains, it pours, doesn’t it?) Your best deal with this one is on a Swiffer Sweeper Starter Kit, Refill, and a Febreze Air Effects.

Buying all of those together will put you at $15.97. Use the “Buy Swiffer, Get Refill Free” coupon from 10/2 PG and a $1 coupon for the Air Effects from 10/2. You’ll pay $10.98 and get $5 back in ECBs! That’s $5.98 for everything – a good deal.

DIAPER DEAL:

Huggies Jumbo pack diapers are on sale for $8.99. Buy one and get $1 back in ECBs.

Best deal: Use the $3 off Huggies Slip Ons from 9/11 SS. Pay $5.99 and get $1 back, making these $4.99.

Another deal: SavingStar has a $2 ecoupon. If you use this, you will still pay $8.99, but you’ll get $1 back in ECBs and $2 deposited to your SavingStar account, resulting in a $5.99 jumbo pack. (Note that you CANNOT use a SavingStar ecoupon with a manufacturer coupon – they are both manufacturer coupons and are not to be stacked.)

Last deal: The 9/11 SS also has a $1.50 Huggies coupon, which will result in $6.49 Huggies after the deal.

Keep in mind that these jumbo packs are part of CVS’ “Buy 6 jumbo packs of CVS, Luvs, Pampers or Huggies diapers, get your 7th pack FREE” deal. When you buy the 6th pack, a coupon for a free 7th pack will print on your next visit to CVS.

CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!

Wrapping things up with Walmart…

Walmart has the Scrubbing Bubbles One Step Starter Kits in the ad for $3.97 this week. Use the $4 coupon from 9/11 SS1 or a Facebook printable and pay… NOTHING! It’s FREE!

Did you see the nice $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupon in the new 10/2 PG this week? You can score some free makeup at Walmart this week with it! Single-color Cover Girl Cheekers blushes and Enhancers eye shadows are $3.99 at most stores. Buy two… and with your coupon, pay NOTHING. They’re FREE!

Deals continuing from previous weeks:

Travel-sized Connect 4 and Battleship Fun-on-the-Run games are $4.50. Use the $4 coupon from 9/11 SS1 and pay .50!

Card-game versions of Scrabble and Monopoly are $5.59. Use the $4 coupon from 9/11 SS1 and pay $1.59!

(Even if you do not “need” the games, these are great items to pick up now and donate to Toys For Tots later this year if you can afford to do so.)

Policies to know:

• Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
   
• With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
   
• With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
   
• Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
   

I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.

I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
