“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

Sunday’s paper has a new $100 Jewel-Osco coupon book inside! These coupons are good through 10/15, so make sure you hang onto the book not only for this week’s sales, but next week’s too. Best bets this week? In the order that they appear in the book…
Tyson Breaded Chicken (20.5-29oz.) is on sale for $5.99 a bag — not a good price. But use the $2 store coupon from the Jewel book and stack it with the $1 manufacturer coupon from the 8/21 SS insert. You’ll pay $2.99, a nice price! (Note that these are on sale for $3.50 at Meijer this week too – $2.50 after coupon.)
Jack O Lantern Pumpkins are $4.99 at Jewel, but just $2.99 after the $2 coupon from the book. This is cheaper than I’ve seen them at local pumpkin patches around here… of course, you’re not picking them at the patch though.
Hard shell squash is .99/lb. There’s a coupon in this week’s Jewel-Osco coupon booklet for Buy 2 pounds, get the 1st pound free! That’s TWO pounds for .99, or about .50/lb.
Bar-S Corn Dogs (3lbs.) are $5.99 a box. Use the coupon from the JO coupon booklet and get $2 off. You’ll pay $3.99!
Palermo’s Primo Thin Crust Pizzas (14.55-19.1oz.) are on sale for $5 each. The store coupon from the JO book is a $2-off-2. So, buy two and stack that with this $1-off-2 printable. You’ll pay $7 for two, or $3.50 each.
Krunchers Potato Chips (9oz.) are on sale for $2.50 per bag. The store coupon in the J) book is a $1-off-2, knocking these to $4 for two, or $2 per bag. There’s also a $1-off-2 manufacturer coupon in the 9/11 SS1. With this manufacturer coupon, pay $3 for 2 bags, or $1.50 each.
This is an “okay” price if you like Sun Chips, but since there are rarely deals on these, I included it. Sun Chips (10.5oz.) are on sale for $3.50 a bag – not a deal. The store coupon in the JO booklet is a $1-off-2, which drops these to $6 for two bags. There’s also a $1-off-2 in the 10/2 PEPSI. Stack it all together and you’re looking at $5 for two bags, or $2.50 each.
Starbucks Frappuccino or Double Shots (4-packs, 6.5-9.5oz. bottles) are on sale for $5 each. Use the $2-off-2 store coupon from the JO booklet and stack it with the $2-off-2 coupon from the 10/2 PEPSI. You’ll pay $6 for two, or $3 per 4-pack.
Windex Glass Cleaner (26oz.) is $2.69. Use the .70 store coupon from the JO book and stack it with the $1 off Multi-Surface Windex from the 9/25 SS. You’ll pay .99! There’s also a .50 coupon in the September All You for $1.49 Windex.
It’s baking season, and this is a good week to stock up on some pantry staples for your fall baking…
Argo Baking Powder (12oz.) is on sale for $1.29. Use the .30 coupon from 10/2 SS1 (L’Oreal on cover) and pay .99! Or, buy two and use the .90-off-2 coupon from the same insert. You’ll pay $1.68 for two, or .84 each!
—
Fleischmann’s Yeast (3-pack strip) is on sale for $1.49. Buy one and use the .50 coupon from 10/2 SS1. You’ll pay .99! Want more? Buy two and use the .90-off-2 coupon from the same insert. You’ll pay $2.08 for two, or $1.04 each.
—
Karo Corn Syrup (16oz. dark or light) is on sale for $2.29. Buy one and use the .40 coupon from 10/2 SS1. You’ll pay $1.89 after coupon. Or, buy two and use the .90-off-2 coupon from the same insert. You’ll pay $3.68 for two, or $1.84 each.
Bestlife Buttery Spread (15oz.) is on sale for $1.50. Use this $1 printable and pay .50!
Mrs. T’s Pierogies (12-16.9oz.) are on sale for $3.49, Buy One Get One Free. The 10/2 RP has a $1 coupon.
With one coupon, pay $2.49 for two, or about $1.25 each. With two coupons, pay $1.49 for two, or about .75 each! Yum!
The October issue of All You also has a $1-off-2 coupon.
Mentos UP2U gum is on sale for $1 per pack. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupons from the 9/11 SS1. You’ll pay $1 for two, or .50 each!
If you need pasta sauce Ragu is on sale for $1.50 a jar when you buy TWO. Use the $1-off-2 coupon in the weekly Jewel flyer and pay $2 for two, or $1 each.
Tropicana Pure Premium orange juice and Trop50 (59oz.) is $3.50. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 in the 10/2 PEPSI (for Trop50) or 8/28 RP (for Pure Premium.) You’ll pay $6 for two, or $3 each.
Jewel has a page of “10 for $10” items in the weekly ad. While at first glance this ad could look promising, look at the -sizes- of some of these things! 3 and 4-ounce cheeses?! I wonder if these tiny sizes were created just for this promotion At any rate, $1 for them is too high. (Note that Jewel has a 1.24oz. Kraft Grated Parmesan Cheese for $1, but Meijer’s ad has an 8-ounce container for $2.99. You’d only get 3.72 ounces of cheese if you bought the “special” $1 sizes.)
What IS good here: The 12-ounce Oscar Mayer Beef Bologna is fine for a buck. Ditto the Bull’s Eye or Kraft Barbecue sauces if you need them.
Jewel’s having a “Buy 5 and they’re $1.88 each” sale on General Mills cereal, granola bars and snacks! You must buy in groups of 5 to receive the $1.88 price, or you’ll pay $2.48 each. The Nature Valley granola bars are good here too as they double-dip a national Catalina deal!

The ad states that you may receive TWO $5 Catalinas per transaction, so you could buy $40 and get $10 back. (The deals don’t always work this way, so enjoy!) While the ad states “Minimum purchase requirement calculated after manufacturer coupons redeemed,” these sales typically do work on your pre-coupon total at the register. (Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons

And guess what… this double-dips with the Catalina too. Because Meijer doesn’t count the free bag as a “purchase” the way that most stores do, you will only get the “Buy 3” Catalina here… but paying $8 and getting $2 back drops these to 4 bags for $6, or $1.50 each!
Christy over at The Shopper’s Apprentice posted that the Ore-Ida Easy Fries are a steal too. They’re $1.12 each. Buy four at $4.48 and get a $3 Catalina, making these $1.48 for four boxes, or .37 each! (If you’ve never head these, they’re not something I would pay much for, as the per-ounce price isn’t cheap… but they -are- very good… perfectly hot and crispy restaurant-style fries that you can do in the microwave. Mmm!)
36-count double rolls of Charmin bath tissue are $16.99. Use the .25 coupon from 10/2 PG and pay $16.74. That works out to about .47 per double roll. Under .50 per double roll is good for any brand, but this week Jewel has double-roll Charmin for .32 after coupon and Catalina – a better price if you’re headed there.
Gorton’s Seafood (8-24oz. fish sticks, battered or breaded fish fillets or tenders, or premium fillets) are $4.99 each. Buy two and receive $2 in instant savings! You’ll find .50 Gorton’s coupons in the 9/11 SS.
With one coupon, pay $7.48 for two. With two .50 coupons, pay $6.98 for two, or $3.49 each.
Meijer has a “Buy any 4 General Mills cereals, get $2 instant savings” sale running. GM cereals are $2.50 each in the ad, so you’ll pay $8 for 4, or $2 each. Here are some coupons to drop that even more…
– $1 off 2 – 9/25 SS, 9/11 GM, printable, printable
– $1 off 3 – 10/2 GM
I think you’re better off at Jewel this week as the GM cereals are $1.88/box when you buy 5.
Meijer’s running some instant-savings clothing promotions this week too. They are:
Buy 2 Hanes Men’s Underwear or Socks, get $10 instant-savings
Buy 4 Hanes Women’s Underwear or Socks, get $10 instant-savings
Buy 4 Hanes Kids’ or Toddlers’ Socks or Underwear, get $10 instant-savings
(um… Meijer, why do women and kids not get the better Hanes deal that the guys and kids do?!)
***
Buy 2 Champion Men’s, Women’s Fleece Crews, Pants, Full Zip or Pullover Hoddies ($20-$30 each) get $10 off instantly.

Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Meijer is running a Catalina sale on Meijer-brand cheeses. Buy 3 Meijer cheeses and get $1 off your next cheese purchase; buy 4 and get $2 off; or buy 5 or more and get $3 off your next cheese purchase. Unfortunately this deal excludes the deli cheeses, as well as “Markets of Meijer” cheeses and cottage cheese. This offer is good through 10/8/11.
In last week’s ad, Meijer 16oz. cheese singles are $2.49 each and your best bet for a deal. Buying 5 at $12.45 will generate a $3 Catalina off your next cheese purchase. That drops this to $9.45 for 5, or $1.89 each.
Meijer Chunk Cheeses (24oz.) are also $4.99 in last week’s ad.
Are you a Meijer Mperks member? Mperks is a different set of electronic Meijer coupons. Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Here are your Hilander deals… View weekly ad
This is the first week that Hilander is now operating under the Schnucks banner and ad. The current flyer reminds Hilander shoppers to stop in and get a free Schnucks Customer Card to replace the Hilander Plus card. They are offering a .10/gallon fuel bonus for registering for the new card by October 18th, and an additional .05/gallon savings if you register your card with an email address.
The Rockford-area Logli stores also share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads this week, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The Scnhucks ad cycle is a WEDNESDAY to TUESDAY ad, which means these deals will now end on Tuesdays of the current week. These deals end TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4th. (Ouch.)

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Walmart has the Scrubbing Bubbles One Step Starter Kits in the ad for $3.97 this week. Use the $4 coupon from 9/11 SS1 or a Facebook printable and pay… NOTHING! It’s FREE!
Did you see the nice $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupon in the new 10/2 PG this week? You can score some free makeup at Walmart this week with it! Single-color Cover Girl Cheekers blushes and Enhancers eye shadows are $3.99 at most stores. Buy two… and with your coupon, pay NOTHING. They’re FREE!

Card-game versions of Scrabble and Monopoly are $5.59. Use the $4 coupon from 9/11 SS1 and pay $1.59!

Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

At walgreens, the Nature Valley Granola bars are 2/$3. There is a Walgrees coupon in the in store coupon book that takes a $1 off two making it 2/$2. Then you can stack it with the manufacturer’s coupon taking .75 off making it 2/$1.25 or .63 each!

Tropicana Pure Preminum and Trop 50 is 3.19 at Target which is there regular price and with the coupon from the Sunday insert makes it 2.69 which is better than the Jewel deal of 3.00 after coupon.

The Muddy Buddies coupon is for 10.5 oz bags or larger – the sale 7.5-8.75 oz. Darn … I was looking forward to the .24 bag! Well, .49 bags still work with the printables :) thanks always, Jill !

The manufacturer’s Q for the Krunchers chips in the Trib 9/11 S1 is for $1 off 2, not $1 off 1. So using 2 Qs at Jewel, along with the Jewel Q makes each bag $1.50. Still not bad, but of course, we all like $1 per bag better.

A question for other Chicagoland couponers – On Sunday I purchased two copies of the Chicago Tribune from a grocery store, and neither one had a P&G insert :( Did this happen to anyone else? There were so many awesome inserts in there that I almost didn’t miss it!

When I go to the link, sadly it says “Sorry, this offer has expired. This coupon is no longer available – Thank you for your interest.”
I even tried voting…it goes to the same page. :(
But at least I don’t feel so special! :)

The Boiron coupon you linked is for the Children’s version; the one on sale is the adult version. Q or no q, this brand is a GREAT BUY! They work magic.

I read on MUM that there is a catalina going on at Meijer on Meijer Naturals or Organics:
Buy 3 get $1 off your next Meijer naturals or organic purchase
Buy 4 get $2 off your next Meijer naturals or organic purchase
Buy 5+ get $3 off your next Meijer naturals or organic purchase
this is going on through the 10/15
I tried it at the closest Meijer near me which is Orland Park and some of the prices there are different than the ones MUM posted but I still think its a good deal especially the canned tomatoes
Here are the ones I can remember at the Orland Park location: Meijer naturals 10oz tomato sauce 2/$1, and tomato paste 6oz $.65 and 12oz $.89
Buy 5 tomato sauce for $2.56 w/tax earn a $3 cat
One thing to note is that once you use use it on your next purchase you will not earn a new cat

I’m interested in doing your DOVE deal but when I printed the DOVE coupon from the link provided I noticed the coupon has printed on it (excluding trial and travel. Coupon cannot be combined with another offer) so does that exclude one using this coupon with the BOGO coupon as well? That is how I am interpreting it. Thanks for all you do Jill. And many others on here as well that help all of us :)

By now I should by now know the answer but alas I do not. Ok, I’m still a newbie at couponing, but today was such a rush that I just had to share with people who will understand…and that’s all of you. I’ve been so frustrated with trying to find the “Scrubbing Bubbles” kits. I had just about given up hope. Today, I went to my LG Walmart and they were there!!! I scored 6 of them for FREE!! And the Cover Girl makeup deal! WOW!! (Yes, Maven I could have gotten certain items for free, but I actually got items that I needed right now and got about $32 worth of items for a GRAND TOTAL of $10.97 and that includes the tax on the “bubbles” kits too! I’ve been saving a lot since starting this, but this was HUGE for me!!! Thank you for teaching me how to save like this.

There are 60 cent printable coupons for the nature valley granola bars (Sweet and Salty nut), bugles, chex mix, and gardetto snack mix on the betty crocker website.
You can also find $1.10 off two boxes of cheerios cereal on the betty crocker website.

Last week I had a closer look at the sodium content of this new product… Wow!
If I remember correctly, the serving size is 2 teaspoons and counts for over 700 mg of sodium.
The recipes on the bottom call for the whole tub, which means 14 times this amount. WAY too much and I don’t want to feed this to my family.
I tried to find out the nutritional info on their website, but couldn’t find it. No wonder, they are probably afraid to mention it…

At meijers (indiana) this week suave shampoos are on sale 3 for 5. If you buy $10 worth of suave products you get 3 extra dollars saved. So I bought 6 suave professional shampoos for $10 to save 3 extra dollars. Then I stacked it with three of the B1g1 coupons from the 10/2 RP and spent $2 for 6 shampoos. I did this same thing with the suave kids shampoo! So awesome!

Cottonelle is $5.00 for a 12 (large) roll package. Use the $1.00 coupon in the Walgreens October coupon book to drop it to $4.00. Use the 75-cent Q from 9/11 SS or the 50-cent Q from 10/2 SS to drop it to $3.25 or $3.50 respectively. That’s 27 or 29 cents a roll respectively.
TRESemme products are on sale two for $7.00. There is a B1G1F coupon in the new 10/2 PG dropping the price to TWO for $3.50.
Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion 24.5 oz. is on sale two for $11.00 with a $2.00 Register Reward dropping it to two for $9.00. Use the B1G1F coupon in the new 10/2 PG to drop the price to TWO for $4.50!

I had a couple pleasant surprises at Meijer today.
I did the “Buy 3 bags of Ore-Ida fries, get 4th free” deal and I got the $3 Catalina even though the 4th was free! I went back into the store with my $3 in hand and purchased, among other things, two of the 36-roll packages of Charmin and ended up getting a $5 OYNO from P&G. I don’t recall purchasing anything else that was P&G in that order. What a treat!

If you are buying the Mott’s Apple Juice at Dominick’s, you can use the $2 off 2 in the MDA Make a Muscle, Make a Difference booklet to bring the cost down to $0.99 a bottle (must purchase in multiples of 2’s).

The Chicago Trib. only got a $0.40 Q for the Fleischmann’s yeast strips (not $0.50 mentioned in your deals writeup), so the $0.90 off 2 is a better deal than using the $0.40 off 1 Q.
Just in time for homemade bread season–yay!

I don’t know if this will work, but there is a store coupon for $5.00 off Gillette Fusion refills 8 count or more in the Jewel insert. Use with the $5.00 off razor coupon in the P&G insert (mfr coupon) will at least get you $10.00 off the spend $20.00 to get $5.00 cat promotion.

If you need bars of soap, there’s an OK deal at Jewel. The Sunday Jewel Coupon book had a $.49 store coupon off the 3 bar pack that is priced at $1.49. The 10/2 P&G insert has a $.35 off any ivory coupon. So, 3 bars for $.65

My Jewel (Downers Grove Ogden Ave) had lots of bulk packs of Purdue chicken legs or leg quarters on sale for $.49 per pound. Might be just my store, but make sure to check. It was under a sign labelled ‘special today’.

The deal you posted regarding the febreeze noticables used $2.00 coupon from the 10/2PG. Is it the $2 for the warmers? If so, does it work on the refill oils or just the warmers? Otherwise the other $2.00 coupon is for $2 off 2 febreeze products.

In the Walmart policy you mentioned the following: “With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them.” My question is: May I stack a manufacturer’s coupon on top of this?

Jill,
I just wanted to express my deep appreciation for everything you do. I know this website must take hours upon hours to keep up, but I cannot thank you enough. I have been following you for 4 months now, and I have more shampoo, soap, and hamburger helper then I could ever imagine. I have saved so much money, I will never shop the way I did in the past ever again. I look forward to your post every Monday. I just wish that you lived closer to me, so that we could go shopping together, haha.
Sincerely,
Your fan from the Quad Cities :)

I was at Target tonight and the mobile coupon didn’t stack with the manufacturers coupons for the pretzel M&Ms and the Transformers toy. It seemed like the cashier scanned my phone correctly but when I checked my receipt, only the manufacturer coupons were removed. I didn’t check my receipt until I got to the car and I had 3 kids with me so I didn’t want to go back to customer service tonight. Any thoughts on this? Are the mobile coupons actually manufacturer coupons and that’s why they weren’t applied?
Firedancer41 says
Target receipts are very difficult to read and figure out if you were charged correctly sometimes. I have noticed that many times when a Target Q is scanned, it will show up as “Target coupon $0.00” on the register screen, but on the receipt the price is actually adjusted down…i.e., If you use $1.00 off Target Q for something that is $3.99, it will show the price as $2.99. If a manu. Q is also used, that will show as $ off following the item, or at the bottom of the receipt.
So is it possible the price of the item was brought down to reflect the Q?

I just finished my largest shopping trip in I don’t know when, and DH nearly didn’t believe the total as he swiped the debit card. I used many stacks: Jewel store coupon plus manufacturing coupon. We had picked up two booklets (DH and I), since we are two customers. However, I put everything in one transaction. Bad beeping. Did I miss it that we are only allowed to use one like store coupon per transaction? I felt like a coupon criminal as they kept overriding that beeping to get me through (as a courtesy). Next time I will be sure to separate it and we will go through twice. What a pain. Has this been your experience?

Hello everyone yesterday I went on a late night shopping trip. One of my stops was walgreens so I went and bought a few things needless to say I never go around that time, well anyway I went to some nieva lip balm or whatever that was I got that for fre with a $3.00 coupon I had. Which I was like whoo but the cahier was rude and didn’t accept my coupons from Jewel, I thought they could accept them since I didn’t want to cause I seen I told my husband to pay the nice lady and on our way tothe next store I called to speak to the manger and so I did he was very apoligetic about how the cahier wasn’t accepting my coupon from Jewel and that he would adjust it for me if I come back I was like can I come back tomarrow and he said I will not be here tomarrow but any of the mangers will be more then happy to help you resolve this matter needless to say I love my usual cashier and I am going to ask for her schedule because she is soo understanding and patient and soo nice she should get employee of the year. Anyway just wondering if anyone else had the same problem and if there is anything in a policy about this, I check but couldn’t find it, Does anyone know?? Thanks so much in advance for the feedback

Hey Everyone! I went to Walmart to get my FREE makeup and was told that Cover Girl is not accepting the 8.00 coupon for Blush or Eye Enhancers only for the items shown in the original ad. Has anyone else experienced this? Jill you may want to check it out and remove it if it’s true.

Did anybody read the fine print on the Jewel page for the spend $20 get a $5 catalina?
I was sitting down trying to figure out my deal when I looked at the fine print and it says Minimum purchase requirement calculated after coupons. So that kind of blew my deal. Has anyone experienced problems with this?

I tried to use the $4 coupon for the scrubbing bubbles kit and was told that the coupon does not apply with the $3.97 item. The mgr. said that this item was a special product prepared for Wal-mart and I would have to use the $4 coupon on the $9 kit. It wasn’t a specially prepared product because I saw the same item in Jewel a month ago. Anybody else have the same push back from Wal-mart?

Just wanted to tell you all to be sure to check your Just 4 U promotions. I found mine had the 13 gallon Glad tall kitchen garbage bags for just 4.97. I collected my coupons (using coupon tom)and when I went to the store saw that the regular price is over 12.00. NICE deal. When I got to the register it didn’t take the discount off- which is normal, I’ve had more problems with my card. BUT I was wise enough to print off my shopping list showing the personalized price, then I also used my Q’s. What’s even nicer is that the promo price doesn’t expire until January 2012!
