With the deals above, buying the total dollar amount required (NOT including tax! Make sure you are over, pre-tax) will generate your Catalinas. However, you can potentially save even more money on these already great deals.
If you are VERY NEW at couponing and not comfortable doing a high-level Catalina deal differently than what the ad specifies, skip this and move on to the Dominick’s deals for this week. But if you are comfortable with a higher-level deal…
My black belt couponers know that these deals typically work differently at Jewel than at any other store.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never done a high-level Catalina deal at Jewel before, please read this short overview of the way the price structure works. In a nutshell, if you base your dollar-spent mark on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket.
It is entirely up to you if you would like to work the deal in this way, but understand that IF you do, and the Catalina does not print, you can NOT go to the service counter and ask/demand that they reimburse you. You are working this sale in a different way than the ad specifies, and you’re on your own if you choose to do this. Know that you are accepting ANY outcome, including getting NO Catalinas.
You can mix and match any items in the list to get to that price mark. It’s important to remember that the non-preferred prices vary at EVERY store, and in some cases there are three prices (shelf, sale, and Preferred) on each item. If there is a fourth price (“Big Relief,” this is the price you use.)
If this makes no sense or is the least bit confusing to you… do NOT do the deal in this way. These high-level Catalina deals can be very confusing, especially when you’re new at this. If you are new, use the PREFERRED price only, and you’ll get the Catalina every time.
But if you’re a “black belt” couponer and want to maximize your savings… here are some of the best deals. You will also note that there are many items in the deal that are not advertised – here’s a full listing. Again, if you use these scenarios and do not get your Catalina, do NOT go to Customer Service and ask them to make it right for you. You WILL NOT have purchased what the ad states that you must. Again, YOU are taking the risk on these deals. You must be willing to accept ANY outcome without complaining, even if it means not getting any Catalinas at all.
A stock-up-on-flour deal
Buy 7 Pillsbury flours. With no coupons, pay $10.50 and get $5 back. That’s under a dollar a bag! (AGAIN, CHECK PRICE – some stores have flour at $2.50.)
A coffee and brownie deal
Buy 2 Folgers coffee ($11.94)
1 Pillsbury Brownie mix $1
Use $1 Folgers coupon from above
Pay $11.94 and get $5 back… 2 coffees and a brownie mix for just under $7!
Heading to Dominick’s, the big, crazy deal on KLEENEX has reportedly been extended until 10/10! (And what a fantastic item to stockpile… it doesn’t expire, ever, so you can really stock up!)
Here’s the deal. Buy 3 boxes of 110-ct Kleenex (.99 each.) Use any coupons you have for the Kleenex (8/2 SS has one, and there are MANY expireds as well, which I’ll list below) – pay $2.47 and get a $3 Catalina back! That’s right… this is a MONEYMAKER which will net you free Kleenex with a little overage!
Remember, you won’t be able to roll your Catalinas unless you add more items in ($3 Catalina won’t work on $2.47 total) so add some other items in if you’d like. I like to use produce (bananas, bags of grapes, etc) — great way to bring the price of these down too!
More expired .50 off 3 Kleenex coupons:
7/12 SS
4/5 SS
2/9 SS
1/4 SS
12/7/08 SS
11/2/08 SS
10/5/08 SS
8/3/08 SS
(Dominick’s accepts expired manufacturer coupons up to 1 year.) Have fun taking Kleenex out of your budget for… a very long time!
Lastly for Doms… if you have the 2009 Entertainment Book, remember that there’s a $5 off $50 coupon in there too that you can work into one of your Dominick’s trips before the book expires at the end of this year. If you use this, always give the cashier that coupon FIRST, before the rest of your coupons, as your total will probably (hopefully!) dip under $50 after the rest of your coupons. And, if you’re interested in the 2010 Entertainment Book, it’s got FOUR $5-off-$50 coupons for Dominick’s in it, valid this fall and throughout the next year. Nice!
At Meijer, Ideal no-calorie sweetener is FREE with a coupon! Grab the 9/13 RP insert and clip your Ideal coupon!
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes. This is why I don’t blog too many Meijer deals…
Over at Target, you could potentially take home some CHEAP mascara! Rimmel “Extra Super Lash” is marked down to $2.29 at many Target locations. Pair this with the $2 coupon from 8/23 RP and take it home for just .29 — this variety is the only kind I’m aware of being marked down, so check with the price scanner to make sure you’ve got the right one.
Here’s a GREAT deal on apple juice and applesauce at Target that you won’t even need a coupon for! Mott’s apple juice and applesauces are $1.75 each at Target, and if you buy 5 at a time, you get a $5 gift card. This knocks the already-good prices down to just .75 each per bottle or package! WOW!
For my Rockford-area readers, Hilander has a good deal on Totino’s pizza rolls… they’re .99 a box. With the .35 coupons from 8/9 SS and 9/13 SS (which will double to .70) you’ll pay just .29 a box!
Yogurts are a good deal once again here too. Both Dannon Activia and Dannon Light and Fit are $1.99 a 4 and 6-ct. Use the $1 coupons for each from 7/26 SS, 8/9 SS, and/or 8/30 SS… and take these home for .99!
Have you seen the electronic coupons for Hilander/Kroger stores? SoftCoin recently added support for Kroger stores (including Hilander) for their new electronic coupons for Unilever products! Click here to check them out… they load to your card the same way that Cellfire/PGE/ShortCuts do, meaning we now have FOUR sets of electronics we can stack with at Kroger stores. WOW!
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens, the good deal on Gillette Fusion MVP razors continues! They are $8.99. Use the $4 coupon from 9/27 PG, pay $4.99… and get $6 back in RRs! FREE razor and a MONEYMAKER!
If you get All You magazine, the October issue has a coupon for Buy One, Get One Free Rimmel mascara. The mascaras currently ARE B1G1F at Wags, so buy none and get 2 free!
Playtex Hand Saver gloves are a good deal too. They’re .99 each with the coupon in the current Walgreens flyer. Stack this with the $1 coupons from 5/3 SS and 6/28 SS and they’re FREE!
And over at CVS, we can take home some cheap and free stuff too! Colgate Total Advanced toothpaste and/or Colgate 360 Actiflex toothbrushes are on sale for $2.99 with a $2 ECB coming back to you after purchase. With a $1 coupon for each, pay $1.99 and get $2 back! FREE!
Your toothpaste coupon is in the 9/27 SS, and your toothbrush coupon is here!
Bars of Dial Antibacterial soap are a steal here too. The 3-pack is on sale for $1.88 with a $1 ECB. Use the .35 coupon from 8/16 SS, pay $1.53 and get $1 back! Cheap soap!
FREE coupons that are still current:
8/30 SS – FREE roll of Marcal toilet paper, paper towels, or facial tissue (exp. 10/15/09)
9/13 SS – $1 off ANY purchase at a store that takes coupons when you use your Discover card (exp. 10/31/09)
9/27 SS – FREE Friskies Natural Sensations Cat Treats
(exp. 11/30/09)
8/2 SS – FREE jar Beech-Nut Stage 3 Fruit baby food (exp. 12/31/09) [regional insert for NON-Tribune newspapers – a rarity]
9/13 SS – FREE Freshpet Select Homestyle refrigerated pet meal (exp. 12/31/09) [regional insert for NON-Tribune newspapers – another rarity]
As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically 20-30 of them. Many websites are now tracking the All You coupons and matching them to deals, just as they do with the newspaper coupon inserts. You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

$0.25/1 Smucker’s coupon in the 9/13 R2 (JC Penney on the cover).
$0.50/1 Pillsbury brownie mix in the Jewel Preferred Card update booklet.

I noticed that the ad for the Smucker’s/Pillsbury Catalina stated one catalina printed per customer, not like it usually states, one per transaction. Are they able to track this with the Jewel Card or can we do multiple transactions and roll the catalinas?

I think It’s just late but if i buy 2 folgers and 1 condense milk a cat will print right? since its the same price as the brownies. Thank you!
nzuniga says
sorry 1 more question. I’m looking in the Redplum 9/20 insert and i dont see the $1 off 2. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I don’t think the flour is on sale for $1.50 at Jewel anymore. I think it’s $2.50 a bag now. Not as great of a deal with a price increase. I have seen it reported on other money saving blogs that SOME stores still are running it at $1.50 but MOST stores have it at $2.50. Just keep an eye out for the price on the flour before you purchase so there’s no surprises at the register….another reason to use the price scanner before you check out.

I am new to this, so this may not be that spectacular of a deal, but it seemed pretty good to me!
At Dominics (Crystal Lake), they have a special on Kelloggs cereal, if you buy 5 boxes, they are $1.49 each. Then there is a coupon on the shelf for $1 off 2 boxes. So, I bought 5 boxes for $7.50, then took $2 off, so I only paid $5.50 for 5 boxes! That’s only $1.10 a box! This is fun! I may have to go back and get some more!

I looked and looked – where do you usually find the price scanner at Jewel? I have found them in so many other stores but I swear there isn’t one at Jewel.

You will need to ask. In the two Jewel stores I shop at – the price scanner is located in different places in the Osco department.

Hi all, I have done the 2 coffees and brownie mix twice in the last 2 days and no cat, I have checked the upcs against the spreadsheet and everything matches. No problem with the catalina machine either, I cant figure it out, any thoughts? I guess still a good deal and I needed to use up some of those RR from last week.

Today at the Hoffman Estates Jewel on Palatine Rd., the manager told me that the flour was not a part of the $20/$5 deal. He showed me their flyer, and sure enough, flour was not listed.
Two questions:
1. Why was this deal working for all of you?
2. How do you find out about deals that are not listed in the flyer?
Thanks for all your work to help us save!

Is the coffee deal over? I missed it due to a family emergency :(
