I’m calling on YOU, my army of Super-Couponers…
My computer was hit by a nasty virus over the weekend (if you want all the dirty details, it’s a rootkit virus, which unfortunately most antivirus programs do not even scan for, detect or remove.) I have spent over 30 hours attempting to regain control of my computer and repair it… unsuccessfully. And, in the process, I learned that most rootkits will survive even reformatting the drive — and can also spread to the hardware inside the PC itself, even writing to the BIOS memory of other hardware devices inside the machine. After two very late, fruitless nights of working on this… it’s time for a new computer.
I’m posting from my hubby’s PC at the moment, but since I’ve spent so much time trying to fix my machine and recover what I can datawise from it, I haven’t had an opportunity yet to write the deals up.
Good thing I started this mini-deals list last week, huh? :)
SO… if you would like to contribute, please post any great deals you’ve found for this current week! I’ll do my best to read through the posts and continue compiling them into this week’s Deals list here at the top. ConAgra is a great bet for this week at Jewel… and please feel free to post anything else noteworthy, great, or FREE!
If you’re new to the site, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations. It’s a good idea to save the grocery and drugstore flyers from both Wednesday and Sunday each week to have on hand & refer to too as you go through the deals! And, if you’re new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing website for a list of FREE coupon classes and instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!
AND… my Super-Couponing class was just released on DVD! Own the 72-minute class and watch it whenever you like! Click for a video preview & learn how to order!

With the deals above, buying the total dollar amount required (NOT including tax! Make sure you are over, pre-tax) will generate your Catalinas. However, you can potentially save even more money on these already great deals.
If you are VERY NEW at couponing and not comfortable doing a high-level Catalina deal differently than what the ad specifies, skip this and move on to the Dominick’s deals for this week. But if you are comfortable with a higher-level deal…
My black belt couponers know that these deals typically work differently at Jewel than at any other store.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never done a high-level Catalina deal at Jewel before, please read this short overview of the way the price structure works. In a nutshell, if you base your $25 on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket.
It is entirely up to you if you would like to work the deal in this way, but understand that IF you do, and the Catalina does not print, you can NOT go to the service counter and ask/demand that they reimburse you. You are working this sale in a different way than the ad specifies, and you’re on your own if you choose to do this. Know that you are accepting ANY outcome, including getting NO Catalinas.
You can mix and match any items in the list to get to that $25 mark. It’s important to remember that the non-preferred prices vary at EVERY store, and in some cases there are three prices (shelf, sale, and Preferred) on each item. If there is a fourth price (“Big Relief,” this is the price you use.)
If this makes no sense or is the least bit confusing to you… do NOT do the deal in this way. These high-level Catalina deals can be very confusing, especially when you’re new at this. If you are new, use the PREFERRED price only, and you’ll get the Catalina every time.
But if you’re a “black belt” couponer and want to maximize your savings… here are some of the best deals. You will also note that there are many items in the deal that are not advertised – thanks to Tracey for the spreadsheet. Again, if you use these scenarios and do not get your Catalina, do NOT go to Customer Service and ask them to make it right for you. You WILL NOT have purchased what the ad states that you must. Again, YOU are taking the risk on these deals. You must be willing to accept ANY outcome without complaining, even if it means not getting any Catalinas at all.
Now, knowing there are MORE items in the spreadsheet than are in the current ad, here are more matchups for you on the unadvertised items. I have not included pricing here as it may vary by store:
Eggo waffles
$1 off 2 – 8/2 KB
Kellogg’s fruit snacks
$1 off 2 – 8/2 KB
Kellogg’s Yogos
.50 off
Kid Cuisine
$1 off – ConAgra $34 coupon book
Ro-Tel Tomatoes
ConAgra $34 coupon book
Check your Avenu too as these often come up: www.myavenu.com
Cheez-It crackers
.75 off
Black Belt Deals for the $25/$10
(Remember to ALWAYS, ALWAYS verify regular/sale/big relief/preferred prices at the PRICE SCANNER for YOUR store before relying on these quantity breakdowns. This cannot be stressed enough. It is never fun to be pennies off from a deal because your store has an item priced a little lower than others.)
And, remember to roll your Cats! Take the $10 you get and go right back and use it to bring your out-of-pocket down on your next round of items.
Best cooking oil deal
Buy 5 bottles of Wesson cooking oil (canola or vegetable.)
With no coupons, pay $12.50 and get $10 back! FIVE bottles of cooking oil at just .50 each!
Cheap pudding deal

Cheap ketchup deal
Buy 16 Hunt’s Ketchup. With no coupons, pay $16 and get $10 back. Use any coupons above to make this even better…
Cheap canned tomatoes deal
Buy 14 cans Hunt’s tomatoes. With no coupons, pay $14 and get $10 back. BE CAREFUL to scan all these at the price checker though as some varieties are ringing even less than shelf – may need more cans for cheaper kinds…
Heading to Dominick’s, if you happened to grab some of the “Buy 2 Fresh Express salads, get 2lbs. of bananas free” tearpads that were circulating last month, they’d be great to use this week at Doms… where salads are $1 each! For $2, you’ll have two pounds of salad AND two pounds of bananas..! NICE!
It’s also $1.88/lb MEAT time again at Dominick’s, and you guys should know by now… anytime meat is under $2 a pound, it’s time to buy!
The following meats are all $1.88/lb:
Boneless beef top round London Broil
Boneless skinless chicken breast or thighs
Boneless whole pork loin
80% lean ground beef patties
There are again some Dominick’s Super Coupons in their Wednesday ads. You can stack manufacturer coupons with all of these (use www.coupontom.com or www.hotcouponworld.com [expired database]) for matchups.
Some highlights:
$2.99 store coupon for Axe body wash… stack this with the $1.50 printable coupon and pick it up for $1.50….
$3.49 store coupon for Freschetta pizza… stack this with the $1 manufacturer coupon from 3/1 SS and take it home for $2.49! Or, use the .75 coupon from 2/8 SS and it’s yours for $2.74.
A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons: All of the Super Coupons require a total purchase of $20 or more to use. But, the “Minimum $20 purchase” applies to the REGULAR, non-sale price of those items. Really! It’s even spelled out very well on Safeway’s corporate site:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases before your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include the coupon item’s regular price, not the discounted price. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and before Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
So, knowing this, getting over that $20 mark isn’t as hard as it seems. Mix and match what you like, and remember too that if you work any other items into your trip from this week’s deals, they too will count toward your $20.
Lastly for Doms… if you have the 2009 Entertainment Book, remember that there’s a $5 off $50 coupon in there too that you can work into one of your Dominick’s trips before the book expires at the end of this year. If you use this, always give the cashier that coupon FIRST, before the rest of your coupons, as your total will probably (hopefully!) dip under $50 after the rest of your coupons. And, if you’re interested in the 2010 Entertainment Book, it’s got FOUR $5-off-$50 coupons for Dominick’s in it, valid this fall and throughout the next year. Nice!
At Meijer, look for a coupon book on a Kraft display called “Back to School Lunch Ideas – $8 Worth of Coupons.” These coupons are STORE coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings… grab and hold for the next good deal :)
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes. This is why I don’t blog too many Meijer deals…
If you pay attention to Target’s printable store coupons each week, you know that while the coupons at Target.com change every Sunday, the coupons from past weeks are still unexpired and valid — they’re just not linked from Target’s site anymore. So how do we get our hands on those coupons?
With a Target Coupon Generator. Sites like this one link to those “hidden” coupons so we can continue to print and use them through their expiration dates, and then… we can enjoy continued savings!
And, if you have a dog (or just want to donate some free dog food!) you’ll want to check out this next Target deal for FREE dog food… go on the generator and print the coupon for $1.50 off 1 bag Chef Michaels dog food.
Now, grab your 8/23 RP insert from this past weekend, and cut your $3 off a bag of Chef Michaels coupon.
Bags of Chef Michael’s dog food are $4.49 at most Target stores. Stack that $1.50 store coupon with the $3 manufacturer coupon for $4.50 in coupon value… and you’re taking it home for FREE!
If you’re registered with vocalpoint.com to receive their great coupon mailings, you may have recently received a coupon for $2.50 off a Bounce fabric softener bar. The Bounce bars are $3.79 at most Target stores, but you can get it for FREE by stacking that great manufacturer coupon with the $1.50 Target store coupon in the 8/23 RP insert. With $4.00 in coupon value on a $3.79 item, you’re getting it for free… with .21 overage! The Bounce bar is supposed to last 2 months in the dryer – you stick it to the inside and forget about it!
If you don’t have the Vocalpoint coupon, 8/2 PG has a $1 manufacturer coupon. Stack it with the same $1.50 store coupon, and you’ll pay $1.29 for your Bounce bar… thanks to btrmama08 in our Forum for the heads-up on these last two great deals!
Wrapping things up at Kmart, their Super Doubles coupon promotion is BACK! Kmart will double coupons up to $2 in value, making many, many things free or cheap!
The rules this time around… limit 10 coupons per day per person (some stores do not enforce) – limit 4 like coupons per transaction, and you must reach a $25 purchase, pre-coupon. Remember, no coupon overage is given – you’re doubling TO the price of the item, not over.
The blog It’s Hip 2 Save did an -excellent- matchup list of the Kmart doubles for the promotion two weeks ago, many of which will still apply this time around. Be sure to check out all the printable coupons for Kmart itself before you go as these may still be valid, including:
- $5 off $50 Kmart purchase
- Free rubbing alcohol with $15 purchase
- Free bottle of hydrogen peroxide with $20 purchase
- Free cotton swabs with $20 purchase
And, if you’re having trouble getting up to that $25 mark, remember that ANY “FREE” coupons you have will help bump you up, because the item’s pre-coupon value counts toward your $25. While these coupons won’t double, you can use them as fillers – and the non-doubling coupons also won’t count in your limit of ten doubles.
For my Rockford-area readers, Hilander’s got NEW ELECTRONIC COUPONS! SoftCoin.com recently added support for Kroger stores (including Hilander) for their new electronic coupons for Unilever products! Click here to check them out… they load to your card the same way that Cellfire/PGE/ShortCuts do, meaning we now have FOUR sets of electronics we can stack with at Kroger stores. WOW!

Thank you for the mention on Target, and thanks for your extra work. I just noticed that you wrote, “In a nutshell, if you base your $20 on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket. ” I think it was just an oversight to put $20 instead of $25, but I thought I should mention it in case someone else reads and tries to follow the $20.

Anyone found this? I have looked in the 8/2 S1 and S2 and cannot for the life of me find this coupon. I don’t even have a baby, but thought I’d buy for the food pantry. Maybe mine didn’t have it?
It’s not listed in coupontom either. (I could SWEAR I saw it, though when looking through coupons on a Sunday morning….)
Thanks!

I went to Target yesterday and used the $4/1 Target coupon from this week’s SS for Schick razors. Paired that with the $4/1 mfr. coupon from 8/23SS (and I believe also 7/26SS) for Schick razors (Quattro, Intuition). The razors are on sale for $6.99, but even without the sale, you’d still be getting them for free (or overage -YMMV).

I found a tearpad coupon at Woodman’s in Aurora for $2 off produce when you buy any 2 I can’t believe it’s not butter products. These are 3 for $5 at meijer right now, so I think it is a pretty good deal. I’m not sure if you can use another coupon for the butter, but that would make it an excellent deal!

I bought:

2 Coffee Mate
7 Reach floss
10 Velveeta
2 Rembrandt
2 Carefree Panty Liners
Total out of pocket: $48.79
Total catalina’s received: $65.00
IF I wouldn’t have been in such a hurry, it would have been better as I forgot about the $1 Velveeta cat until it printed, and I purchased all my Velveeta in one transaction. Oh well, I still made money and have plenty of toothbrushes to donate this week!

Where can I find this spreadsheet that everyone is talking about for the Jewel ConAgra deal? OK- the ConAgra deal is supposed to go until Saturday of this week and when I went today to do some deals, everything was fine except for the cereal??? The Frosted Mini-Wheats are no longer on sale and the spend $25 get $10 isn’t up by it anymore either…….anyone have a clue as to why all the other items would be on sale and the cereal wouldn’t?? I’m sure I could say something to customer service and they would adjust the price BUT my catalinas wouldn’t print…
Also bummed because it’s been forever since Lucky Charms has been part of a good catalina deal, which is one of our faves and when I saw that it was part of a catalina deal for this upcoming week I kinda got excited seeing that the ad listed it as having a NPC price of 2/$8.90….went to the store today and saw the NPC price is really $2.79 …..on sale for $2 only a $.79 cent difference……boohoo! =[

Just thought I’d let everyone know that the Super Target in Algonquin is no longer accepting the $1.00 off two Market Pantry cheese coupon for the individual string cheese. I was told by my checker today that they are no longer accepting it because they don’t get reimbursed for it. I told her that they accepted it last week and she said that they weren’t anymore, that you could only use it on the bigger size cheeses. Just thought I’d let y’all know.
