If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has discontinued its Avenu ecoupons as of 6/18/12. The ecoupons you can currently use with Jewel-Osco now are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
LAST IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has gone to a one-page paper ad in the newspaper some weeks in some market areas, but the full Sunday ad is available online at www.jewelosco.com. This ad is valid at ALL stores, even if you did not receive the full ad in your local paper.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday, September 11.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Not much to report for Walmart this week – no print ad, and nothing spectacular.
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Just wanted to clarify the end date on the Nature Valley Catalina, at Dominick’s. You have it ending 9/2, but today is 9/9.
Is this just a type-o?
“$1.05-$1.12 Nature Valley Granola Bars
If you didn’t get Nature Valley Granola Bars last week, you can still take advantage of the Catalina, which runs through 9/2! The bars are $1.99 per box on the new Rise & Shine Buy 4 promo. Matchups:
Remember too that through 9/2, the Catalina is still running on these:
Nature Valley granola bars are also on a Catalina deal Buy 3, get $1; buy 4, get $2; buy 5 or more and get a $3 Catalina.”

I always read these on my phone. FYI The subcategory headings for Dominick’s (Sizzling Hot Steak Prices, JFU, etc) partially cover the top entry for each group… so I can’t tell what the product is!

Meijer has Digiorno and California Kithen pizza $3.99 this week and there is a $1/2 Digiorno and $1/1 California Kitchen coupon in 9/9 RP. That is a stockup price for really good pizza!

Anyone in the Crystal Lake area or if your just passing through…Joseph’s Market has select Old Orchard Juices on sale all month for $0.99. Not a bad price without coupon. A few good flavors too. The only catch is there is a limit of 2. But they will let you do multiple transactions.

worked like a charm at the Lake in the Hills store but when I went to the Cary store, the $.50 mfg coupon wouldn’t go through as saying coupon didn’t match purchased item??? That’s okay used two of the $1 Wag RR instead.
Thanks for posting this deal. I have to use the smaller boxes in my bathroom because there isn’t much room on my vanity for the larger ones. Sometimes the smaller cubes are not part of a sale.

are on sale at target this week and they are buy 2 get $5 gift card
coupon network has some coupons for various k cups. there is a $1 Q for starbucks k cups in 9/9 S, and 8/19 S has $3/2 select brands of k-cups
starbucks and caribou k-cups were $12.99 at my target, and other brands were $10.99. they range from 16-18 cups and manuf Qs with $5 gift cards will make these $7-$9.50 each. i don’t think i’ve found k-cups much cheaper than this (esp for starbucks and caribou) – maybe if you hit kohls with a 30% off Q and the coffee is on sale.

I would love to do the Gillette deal. Looking at a coupon Buy 1 Gillette System Razor, get 1 Mach 3 free. I thought ProGlide was ‘system’. But there is another coupon there that is $5 off Gillette Fusion Proglide if you buy 1 Gillette System razor. So what is “system” then? Thanks

Can u use the $1.50 q on the free item for biore at target?

I went to the Meijer in Plainfield at Rt. 59 and the Disney gummies vitamins were on sale for B1G1F. I used two coupons, one for the one I was buying and the one I was getting free. The cashier told me that I could not use two coupons because I was getting one item free and could only use one coupon. When these were on sale before I had no problems. Has the coupon policy in Meijer changed?

Last week I did the oscar mayer hot dog deal which you said would work multiple times even though the coupon said one time. I think you said it actually means one transaction? Anyhow it worked and now I am wondering if I can use all of the coupons that say one time, more than once in a transaction? Like, let’s say the strawberry coupon this week? Would love to get more than one. Thanks for your help!

I don’t believe I received P&G’s Home Made Simple, which, according to the Target Swiffer deal above, includes a coupon for a free refill. Is there any other way to get this coupon?
Thanks,
Zach

I went to SavingStar to add my new Jewel Rewards card, but the system said the card was already on my account. The numbers are clearly different, but does the site somehow recognize them as the same card?

I was denied using the B1 ProGlide, G1 Mach 3 razor free coupon and the $4 off Proglide razor coupon. The cashier was a supervisor & I didn’t have the coupon policy on me, so I didn’t object. She basically told me the B1G1 coupon was the coupon I was using for the ProGlide razor & I couldn’t use the $4 off coupon as well. I tried to tell her B1G1 free item was the Mach 3 razor, & the other coupon was for the ProGlide, but she was not seeing it. Am I wrong? I tried to find on the coupon policy at home, but it didn’t seem crystal clear. Thanks
