“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

This week’s newspaper (9/11/11) contained a coupon insert booklet with over $100 worth of store coupons for Jewel-Osco. If you missed seeing this on Sunday, pull it out of your newspaper before it hits the recycle bin..!
Here are your best deals this week with the $100 coupon book (going in the order that they appear in the book…)
– 5lb. bags of Value Wise Russet Potatoes are .99 with the $1.50 coupon from the book.
– Tide Laundry Detergent (50oz. liquid, 56oz. powder) is $4.99 with the $3 coupon from the book. Stack this with the .50 Liquid Tide coupon from 8/28 PG and pay $4.49, or go for the much BETTER deal by stacking the $2 Powder Tide coupon from 9/11 SS2. With this, you’ll pay $2.99 for your Tide! (If you’d prefer Gain, which is ridiculously cheap this week, keep reading when you hit the Walgreens deals…)
– 3lb. bags of Apples are $2.49 with the $1 coupon from the book.
– Jack’s Pizzas are 5-for-$10 with the $5 coupon from the book. Stack this with the $1 Jack’s coupon from 9/11 RP and pay $9 for 5, or $1.80 each.
– Old Orchard 100% Apple Juice or Healthy Balance (64oz.) is $1.29 with the .40 coupon from the book.
– Seattle’s Best Coffee (12oz.) is $5.99 with the $2 coupon from the book. Stack this with the $1.50 coupon from 8/14 SS. You’ll pay $4.49. (There are also $1 coupons in the August and September issues of All You, or use a $1 printable.)
– Olay Definity, Pro-X, Regenerist, or Total Effects has a $4 store coupon. There’s a $3 Regenerist moisturizer coupon in the 8/14 RP. Regenerist moisturizer runs around $20-$25 depending on regular price, so this could knock it to $13-$18. The 8/14 RP also has a “Buy Regenerist, get Olay Body Wash free” coupon to use here if you’re buying Olay. Don’t forget that this is the LAST week to take advantage of the “Spend $50, get $20” Olay rebate running on their site.
As the Jewel store coupons are one per transaction, you will need to split these into separate transactions if you plan to buy multiples to take advantage of the rebate. But here’s a possible scenario: Over two transactions, buy a Regenerist moisturizer and an Olay Body Wash. If your store has these priced at $25, you’d pay $18 out of pocket for each transaction ($36) then submit receipts for a $20 rebate. That would drop this to $16, or $8 each – good prices for Regenerist.
– Equaline vitamins are Buy One Get One Free with the coupon from the store ad.
Speed Stick and Lady Speed Stick deodorants are on sale for $2.99, Buy One Get One Free. Buy two and use the Buy One Get One Free coupon from 9/11 SS2. You’ll pay… NOTHING… and get TWO FREE!
Mini Super-Couponing lesson: Why does this work? When you use a B1G1F coupon during a B1G1F sale, you will buy none and get two free. Here’s why… and remember, it’s important to think of your coupons AS cash. If you walk into the store and give them $2.99 in cash, how many deodorants will that pay for? Two — because the store is selling you two for $2.99. Now, look at your B1G1F coupon. What is its value? Up to $3.99. This coupon pays the price of the first deodorant with its value ($2.99) and the second is free with the store’s sale. You WILL pay tax on the pre-coupon price, as always… but after coupon, both items will be free.
It’s important to note too that you do not get coupon overage with a free or B1G1F coupon when the value is “up to $3.99.” Legally, the cashier must enter the price of the first item, which in this case is $2.99. The store’s B1G1F sale makes the second item FREE. If you like learning coupon tips like these, check out my Super-Couponing workshops or DVDs!
Reach Dental Floss (55yard) is on sale for $1. Use the $1 coupon from 4/17 SS and it’s FREE! If you need more floss, there are .50 coupons in the 7/31 SS and 1/9 SS2.
Green Giant Frozen Vegetables (7-10oz., boxed) are on sale for $1. Use an .80-off-4 coupon (printable, printable) and pay $3.20 for four, or .80 each.
Wonderful Pistachios (8oz.) are on sale for $2.99. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupon from 6/26 SS. You’ll pay $4.98 for two, or $2.49 each!
Essential Everyday Toaster Pastries (6ct.) are $1.69 (regular price at most Jewel locations.) Use the $1 off coupon in the new Jewel Fresh For Fall coupon book and pay .69! Note that these coupons are limit 1 per transaction.

(Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | a href=”https://www.dominicks.com”>Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.

AND, check your electronic coupon offers at Dominicks.com regularly. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had ecoupons for FREE Ice Mountain water, FREE Safeway pasta, FREE Safeway 200ct. napkins and FREE Johnsonville brats! Rachel over at Mashup Mom made an excellent point about this week’s Walgreens flyer too. It seems that fairly often, some shoppers are told that they cannot stack a manufacturer coupon with the store coupons in the monthly IVC coupon books, found on the wire racks near the door at Walgreens. If yours is one of them, you might want to keep the front page of this week’s flyer in your coupon wallet. It clearly shows the $1 monthly IVC coupon being stacked with the $1 coupon from today’s paper to get to the $3 price… how could a store employee argue with that? (And isn’t it nice when the Wags ad does its own matchups for you?)
Gain detergents are involved in some wild double-dip deals this week at Walgreens! You may remember the Catalina that began in August – get $3 back when you buy 3 Gain products, one of which is laundry detergent.
Well, at the time of this writing, instead of one $3 Catalina printing, TWO are printing. This could change at ANY time, so if you’re not a risk-taker, this one might not be for you. Then again, the deals are pretty good, even if the bonus $3 stops at some point. So here we go…
Gain 24-32-load laundry detergents, powder and liquid, are on sale for $5. Gain dish detergents (11oz.) are $1.99.
Easy detergent deal:
Buy one Gain powder detergent and two Gain dish detergents (pre-coupon total: $8.98)
Use the $2 off Gain Powder coupon from the 9/11 SS2. Use two .50 coupons from the 8/14 RP.
After coupons, pay $5.98. Receive $3 Catalina plus $3 BONUS Catalina – that’s $6 back, and it’s ALL FREE!
Easy but not quite-as-good detergent deal:
Buy one Gain liquid detergent and two Gain dish detergents (pre-coupon total: $8.98)
Use the $1 off Gain coupon from the 8/14 RP. Use two .50 coupons from the 8/14 RP.
After coupons, pay $6.98. Receive $3 Catalina plus $3 BONUS Catalina – that’s $6 back, and you’re at .98 for everything!
The Gain laundry detergent is also part of the “Spend $30, Get $10” in Register Rewards deal running at Walgreens this week too. Can you say double-dip? Let’s tackle that next…

Lastly, this week’s CVS ad shows 2-ounce Bengay pain reliever on sale for $5.49, and the ad recommends you use the $5 coupon from this week’s 9/11 SS2 to get it for .49.
I’m honestly not sure if this is usage is okay, because the ad shows regular Bengay. But, the coupon is for Bengay Cold Therapy, Bengay Pain Relief + Massage, or Bengay Ultra Strength 4-ounce. If these varieties are on sale for $5.49 too, then you’re good to go (but it’s 2:28am on Monday morning and I wasn’t able to get to the store to check this one out today with all of our weekend plans.) It’s very possible it might be an error if CVS didn’t know what specifications would be on the coupon before it was printed. Walgreens has Bengay Cold Therapy on sale for $6.99, and it would be $1.99 after this coupon.
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! This week, several readers have reported getting coupons for FREE cookies or crackers!
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Hilander (Kroger) | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Gain dish detergent is .97 every day at Walmart. Use the .50 coupon from 8/14 RP and pay .47! (Through 9/30.)
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
Will I blog Walmart in its entirety each week?
I will not be blogging entire writeups for Walmart each week. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
However, if there IS an ad with noteworthy sales or I’m aware of great coupon matchups, you’ll find those here too.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Hi Jill, I can’t seem to find the Speed Stick/Lady deal you reference at Jewel. Can you tell me where it is located? Also, I had a question that I can’t wrap my head around so I am hoping you can help me understand it.
CVS has a “B1G1 half off” on Speed Stick and with the “B1G1 free” coupon, what would I pay for two and how many should I buy to get the best deal when I have 3 coupons? 6 or 8?
Thank you for your help.

The Kashi frozen coupons on target.com are actually manufacturer coupons.
tgc says
Thanks, Jill, for all your hard work!
So I spent some time this morning getting all those Kashi coupons together for the deal at Target & saw that the coupon for $1 off an Kashi Frozen Entree / Frozen Pizza on the Target Website is actually a Manufacturer Coupon. So it doesn’t seem like we can stack it with another Manufacturer Coupon. Bummer… But the other products are still a great deal.

So I just looked on my Dominick’s Just4U, and they are deal-matching Target’s Kashi sale of B5G1. Dominick’s is also running a Buy 5 Save $5 deal that includes Kashi TLC bars. So I’m assuming that if I bought 6 boxes of Kashi TLC bars at Dominick’s, my deal match would price them at $2.99 and take off one free, plus I would get $5 off the other five boxes, making them $1.99 ea. Add in 3 Recyclebank coupons for $2 off (they let you print 3 a month now) and 1 $1.50/2 from coupons.com, and I’d be getting the five boxes for $2.45, or $.49 ea. Will that work? Cus if it will I’m going to Dominick’s right now! :P

Went to jewel today and had alittle problem. Is there a limit to the save 5 off of the 10 items? I didn’t get my $5 off my third trip to jewel. I read the policy but couldn’t find anything. I did get my box tops though.
twinmom75 says
Ok, so here is a dumb question…do I need to actually clip the store coupons from the jewel coupon book, or can I just have them scan them and keep them for future use, like at Dominicks and Walgreens?

jill,
i went to my local walgreens (they too do not carry the powder Gain) and my $10 register rewards did not print. unfortunately i did not notice it right there right then. i went back in and spoke with the manager who told me it was because i used coupons. the coupons lowered my transaction total and it no longer was the $30 needed to receive the rr. i’ve used coupons before and have had the rr print. he refused to print the rr for me. i looked over there coupon policy and it does not state you cannot use coupons. has anyone else ever heard of this? what can i do?

Successful trip to Jewel yesterday!
8 Speed Stick deodorant
5 boxes of Pizza Rolls
6 boxes Betty Crocker potatoes
9 boxes of Hamburger Helper
$6.95 out of pocket (before tax)!!!!!!!!!
We did have an issue with the Hamburger Helper. Did not realize they were ONLY the boxes marked Bonus that were included in the deal. Also, had been mailed a coupon (printed at the bottom of a letter – looked just like the Life Savers mints letter/coupon that I had received a few weeks ago) from Oscar Mayer for a free package of their Selects hot dogs. Jewel would NOT take it as they insisted it was an internet coupon (despite the authenticity printing across the backside of the coupon – something you would NOT have on a coupon printed at home).
mcmomy says
Really! There are some great coupon sites out there but I find your deals to be the most useful. I used to pay for a service that matched deals but didn’t include catalinas. I decided the payment was eating up the savings and that I could just do it myself. WRONG! Thank goodness one of your followers told me about your site. We bumped into each other (literally) at Wags, looked at each others cart and started talking coupons. That was almost 2 years ago.
So after having tried to do the research myself, I really appreciate the time and effort you put into helping us. I can see exactly how much MONEY I save. It’s a figure that I can calculate. What I can’t put a price on is the amount of TIME you save me each weak. Couldn’t do it without ya. Love your followers too. They are always so generous. It’s nice to have a place where it feels like we’re all in this together.
Was so upset the Jewel coupons weren’t in my paper and so relieved there were stacks of them in the store. Really needed the tide.
Thanks Jill

I have looked for an original rebate form for the Kellogg’s $10 rebate when buying 10 Kellogg’s listed products and can’t find it. When I click on your highlighted link, if I print that does that count as an official form or is it a mechanical reproduction that they won’t accept? I even checked Kellogg’s website and don’t see it listed. Thank you for all you do.

Help! I went to Walgreens today to purchase a total of 12 items. I had 10 manufacturer’s coupons and was going to use 2 register rewards. Two of the manufacturer’s coupons were for $.75 off of 2 items. The cashier took off the manufacturer’s coupons first. When he went to enter the register rewards, the register would not take them. He called the manager over and he wouldn’t do anything either – stating that he thought the the $.75 off 2 counted as 2 coupons each. My bill was still high enough that it could have taken them off. I said that has never been the policy before and he said that it must have changed recently. The same problem happened to me yesterday at a different Walgreens. I checked their coupon policy online and didn’t see anything that stated that. Any suggestions or does anybody know what the problem was? Thanks!

I went to Jewel to get the deodorants but did not realize that there were certain ones that were on sale B1G1 free. It appears all the Speedstick deodorant is on sale for $2.99 but only about 2-3 scents are also BIGI so make sure you grab the right ones.
It appears just the regular scent is on sale not the fancier named ones.

If Wags is out of Skittles, Walmart will price match the Wags coupon and take the Target/manuf coupon, right?

Did the moneymaker airwick deal @ CVS this morning with 4 compact units, and did get the $10 ECB even though the total was a few pennies shy of $20. One nice thing about CVS to remember — multi-item ECB deals there are cumulative because they’re tied to your card. So, I had no qualms about trying the four units alone because I knew that I could always go back later if necessary and add one more item in a separate transaction to hit the threshold.
Now, the question I’m wondering… since my receipt says I still need a few more pennies to hit the reward ECB (even though it already printed this time) would it print again if a second transaction *does* put me over the $20 mark?

I bought 4 bags of skittles at Wags without any problem and they were FREE! I had to check your site on my phone to check the deal because I was confused finding the deal LOL!!

I did the “spend $30 and get $10RR” today at Wags. My precoupon total was $30, however, after all of the coupons the subtotal came under $30 and they did not give me my $10RR. The manager said it’s the new policy. Is this true? Thanks for all you do:)
