Another fabulous week of cheap and free groceries!
Starting at Jewel, my favorite store… Green Giant Steamers (frozen bagged vegetables) are on sale for $1.00. The 9/7 GM insert has coupons for $1.00 off. Enjoy some free vegetables! Who says couponing doesn’t give you healthy food to eat? Especially FREE healthy food :)
Also at Jewel, Glade Plug-ins air fresheners are not only free, they’re moneymakers! Certain scents of Glade Plug-ins are on sale for $1.49. When you buy one, you’ll get a $2 Catalina coupon off your next order. So, it’s free, and they’re paying you to take it home! You can make this deal better with coupons, of course…
Here’s a coupon for Buy 1 Glade Plug-ins, get 1 Free – you can print 2, so you can get 4 for free just from this link alone.
The 8/24 SS insert also has a B1G1F coupon that will get you even more Plug-ins. So… the best part? Remember, when you get a free one, you’re still “buying” it — so you’ll get another $2 Catalina for the free one too! You will pay $1.49 to make $4 for every 2 you buy with a coupon, and moneymakers are my favorite kind of deal. The store is paying you to take the Plug-ins home, and your house will be smelling like roses… or a tropical island… or apple pie… after this deal. The Catalina offer runs through 10/2, but the Plug-Ins will likely only be on sale for $1.49 through Wednesday — check the shelf tag for your store’s sale end date.
Jewel is also running a Box Tops promo on Kimberly-Clark paper products (Box Tops are school fundraiser cut-outs on the tops of numerous products. Schools can turn box tops in and receive 10 cents for each.) When you buy $20 worth of participating products (here’s the Jewel $5/$20 ad scan) you will get a $5 Catalina off your next purchase — and a certificate for 40 box tops for your child’s school.
Now, if you’ve been doing these deals for a while with me, you know specifically which wording to look for on the flyer. It says “by purchasing $20 worth of Kimberly-Clark products.” It does NOT say “with your Preferred card,” so this deal works on the regular (shelf) prices of the items involved. So, when you’re looking at these products and adding up your $20 worth, use the regular shelf price, not the sale price.
This is one of those deals that could be good for you if you mix and match the things you need. And remember, the $20 price is BEFORE coupons too. Not all of the items in this deal are on sale — to maximize your savings, you will want to buy items that are on sale for less than their shelf price, while adding enough items to make the shelf price total $20 or more. You can do this deal one time per trip through the checkout lane.
Keep in mind that shelf prices can vary a bit by store, but these are the prices at my Jewel, to give you an example:
Cottonelle 20 double-roll pack of toilet paper:
Shelf price: $16.99 – sale price $11.99
Scott Extra Soft 20 double-roll pack of toilet paper:
Shelf price $15.49 – sale price $11.99
Viva paper towels:
Shelf price $2.39 – sale price $2.00
Huggies diapers:
Jumbo pack:
Shelf price $12.49 – sale price $10.69
Mega pack:
Shelf price $17.49 – sale price $15.99
Value box:
Shelf price $23.99 – sale price $21.99
Giant box (168ct):
Shelf price $32.99 – sale price $28.99
Most of the other things in the ad are at regular shelf price this week.
This is kind of a complex deal, but it’s one you can work to your advantage too. Here’s what I did:
1 20-roll pack of Scott TP – shelf price: $15.49 – sale price $11.99
2 CleanTeam flushable wipes
(as “filler” items to get to $20) – shelf price $2.99 each
Total shelf price is $21.47, but sale price is $17.97
Minus coupons (75 cents off toilet paper, $3.00 off wipes)
New total: $14.22 – and I’ll get a $5 Catalina coupon back too – so…
I’m down to $9.22 for 20 double rolls of toilet paper and 2 tubs of wipes! Those are some cheap bathroom supplies. The wipes alone would have cost $5.98 without this deal!
Here are all the coupons currently in circulation that will work with this deal. Mix and match to your advantage, but again, items with a high shelf price and low sale price (toilet paper, diapers) will gain you the best profits for the deal:
8/24 SS: Huggies: 50 cents off wipes, $2.00 off Pull-Ups, $1.00 off diapers
9/14 SS: Scott: $1.00 off 4 paper towels, 75 cents off toilet paper
8/24 SS: Cottonelle: 50 cents off
8/3 SS: Kleenex: 50 cents off
8/10 SS: Poise: $1.00 off 2 and $1.50 off 2
8/10 and 9/7 SS: Depends $1.00, $1.50, and $3.00 off
9/7 SS: Kotex: $1.00 off
7/20 SS: CleanTeam: $3.00 off 2
If you received the flyer shown in the link above (it came in the mail, not in the newspaper) it also contains 12 more manufacturer’s coupons for all of these brands. WOW! And don’t forget, you’ll also get a Catalina for 40 Box Tops. If you have kids, send this to school with them — it’s just like giving a $4 donation to the school.
And the best part? This deal runs through the rest of the month of September, so that’s a lot of time to stock up on paper products!
Going to Walgreens this week? You can pick up some Colgate toothpaste for under a quarter… or even FREE! Last week’s inserts, 9/7 SS, have a 75-cent coupon off Colgate toothpaste. Walgreens’ in-store flyer has a $2.00 off coupon (on page 11 at the top.) A great couponing trick is “stacking” a store and manufacturer’s coupon together. so that $2.99 tube of toothpaste will be just 24 cents after coupons! That’s a deal!
Update: One of my readers, coachs_wife, pointed out that the September issue of All You magazine (which is a couponer’s dream come true — the magazine has 30-40 coupons in it each month) has a $1.00 off Colgate coupon in it. If you’ve got this one, the toothpaste will be FREE. Or, because the Walgreens coupon is good for up to 8 items, use them both, and get TWO tubes for 24 cents!
Update #2: Another reader, Mel79, found a great coupon on Colgate’s website for $1 off Colgate Max, one of the varieties that will work with this deal. Register to print coupons with them, and you can print 2 $1.00 off coupons – netting you 2 tubes of Colgate… totally free!
How about some cheap granola bars for your kids’ lunches (or your own?) Nature Valley granola bars are on sale at Dominicks for $2.50 a box. When you buy 5 or more, you’ll get a $3.50 Catalina coupon good for your next shopping trip. And, when you buy 5 boxes at a time though, you’ll get $5 off instantly too! The 8/10 GM insert and the 9/7 GM insert both have coupons for 50 cents off a box. Betty Crocker‘s site also has $1 off 2 printables, and you can print 2!
So the math looks like this:
5 boxes of granola bars @ $2.50 each = $12.50
Minus instant $5 savings = $7.50
Minus two $1.00 off 2 coupons = $5.50
Minus 50-cent coupon = $5.00
Minus $3.50 Catalina = $1.50
Now your granola bars are just 30 cents a box! You will need your Dominicks Fresh Values shopper card to receive the sale prices. If you have more coupons and want to do this deal again, remember you’ll only get one Catalina coupon per trip through the lane, so you may want to break it into several groups of 5 to best take advantage of this deal.
NOTE: Dominicks stores can be inconsistent when it comes to internet coupons. They have no standard corporate coupon policy for shoppers to refer to as to whether they take them or not, so using internet coupons at Dominicks can be very hit or miss. When I went to do this deal today, I was turned down from using internet coupons at Dominick’s, even after pointing out that there are printable coupons on Dominicks.com! I like to make sure all of these deals are working before I add them to the blog, but after today’s experience, I’ll call this a “try at your own risk” deal, as it does involve internet coupons.
Ready for some web freebies? All of these are totally free when you fill out a web form! (And as an aside, has everyone been enjoying the previous weeks’ web freebies as much as I have? In the last 2 weeks, free Scott toilet paper, a free Schick Titanium razor, free Cascade dishwasher detergent, and a free Mr. Clean Magic Eraser have all arrived in my mailbox :)
Free Betty Crocker Warm Delights mini cake in a bowl
Free Betty Crocker Instant Potatoes
Free Kashi oatmeal chocolate chip cookie
Another free Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
Free bottle of Ensure nutrition shake
New to this site? It’s very important that you save ALL your coupons from the Sunday paper — not just the ones you think you’ll use! When your coupons come each week, stick them in a folder – date the front (I use a Sharpie) and then… wait for them to line up to great deals! Don’t even cut them out. You’ll only be cutting the ones you need.
These deals reference coupons that appeared in the Chicago Tribune. Other newspapers do not have nearly as many coupons, so if you subscribe to another paper, you may not have the same coupons these deals are calling for. The largest newspaper in any market has the most coupons, and in our area, that’s the Tribune.
When I call for a specific insert, I’ll abbreviate because some of them have long names! Here are the inserts/publications I’m referring to:
SS = SmartSource
RP = RedPlum
PG = Proctor & Gamble
K = Kellogg’s
GM = General Mills
AY = All You Magazine

Hi Jill – used the Kashi deals last week, they worked like a charm! I saw Nestle’s coupons earlier today but they wouldn’t print. The site said I had already printed the coupon. I called Nestles’ and they said they would mail me some out – did you take the link out though?

I LOVE this site!!!
Today I had 4 glade b1g1 free coupons, so I spent $7.12 for 8 glade plug in’s and they gave me $16 in catalina coupons. Then I went back in and used the kimberly clark promo. I bought the 20 double rolls of cottenelle that was on sale for $11.99 (shelf price was $16.99) and then I used a coupon for $1.00 4 paper towel rolls for Scott (they were on sale 3/$5 ~ shelf price was $2.17). THEN I used my $16 in catalina’s. The total was $2.48 AND I got a $5 catalina back! I then went back in and got a few items that were on sale and I had coupons for and used that Catalina. In total I spent $12.92 and got 8 glade plug in’s, 20 double rolls of cottenelle, 4 rolls of scott paper towels, 2 packages of Green Giant broccoli (Free w/ coupon), 2 bottles of olive oil (b1g1 free + $1.00 coupon), ziploc bags, rice a roni, and a box of Frosted Mini Wheats! I saved $52.06. My husband came with me, and we did a little dance in the parking lot! What a blast! Thank You Jill!!!
One question. I couldn’t find the instore coupon for the colgate at Walgreens. I asked the cashier and they could only find $2.00 off a toothbrush. What am I missing???

I went to my Jewel today and bought over $20 of participating KC items and did not get the Catalina print out. I went to the service desk and asked about getting my coupons in return and they said they are not aware of any $5/$20 KC promo going on. I told them it’s for the whole month of September. Could this be just a regional promo ? If not, it would be great to know where I can get proof of this promo to bring into the store ? I don’t think going in there with a printout of the link above of Jill’s scan will do me any good.
Thanks,
Todd

I emailed Dominicks on Monday night and just got this reply today.
Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding the Internet coupon policy at your local Dominick’s store.
Printable Internet Coupons are defined as on-line print at home coupons that consumers receive from either a retailer web site (for example: dominicks.com), a manufacturer web site (for example: Kraft Foods.com) or from a legitimate coupon web site, (for example: Coupons.com). These web sites typically require shoppers to register on-line before granting access to print the coupon, and generally limit the customer to print only one type of coupon from their web site to discourage duplicates coming from a single computer.
Upon receiving your email, we contacted the store located in Fox Lake and spoke to our associate, Noreen. She advised that in order to insure that we accept only legitimate printable Internet coupons, Dominick’s has adopted the following store policies and guidelines. These policies and guidelines are company wide.
1. We will not accept any printable Internet coupons that do not have a manufacturer’s bar code or manufacturer’s redemption instructions.
2. We will accept any printable Internet coupons only if they scan properly at checkout.
3. We will not accept more than one “copy” of the same printable Internet coupon per customer.
4. We will not accept any printable Internet coupons for a Free Product (other than a “Buy One Get One Free Offer” that requires a purchase of the like item)
5. We will not accept any printable Internet coupons for more than a $5.00 value or for more than 50% of a product’s retail price, whichever of the two is lower.
6. We will not accept any printable Internet coupons that do not have an easy to read expiration date or that extend more than 12 weeks. (Most printable Internet coupons may expire 30-45 days after you print them)
7. We will not accept any printable Internet coupons that appear out of proportion, appear blurry, or are obvious duplicates.
8. Any printable Internet coupons that appear to have been altered in any way may be rejected. (Printable Internet coupons are nearly always printed using the same technology and therefore have a standard format, with very specific security features, including a unique serial code.
If you would like to discuss this further please reply to this email or call our toll free number at 1-877-723-3929 and reference contact I.D. 13410934. One of our associates will be happy to assist you.
We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you soon. Thank you for shopping at Dominick’s

I did the Kimberley Clark deal as you suggested – Scott TP and two Huggies Clean Team. The problem was the catalina machine started printed blank coupons! The ink must have been out. Well,CS gave me 5 $1 coupons for the catalina. I walked out happy, however on my way home realized I didn’t get the certificate for the Box Tops. I called catalina and they didn’t know anything about it. Was the certificate supposed to be from jewel or catalina? Thanks!
