If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Jewel-Osco ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE:Ecoupons you can currently use with the Jewel-Osco Rewards card are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
LAST IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has gone to a one-page paper ad in the newspaper some weeks in some market areas, but the full Sunday ad is available online at www.jewelosco.com. This ad is valid at ALL stores, even if you did not receive the full ad in your local paper.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday, September 25th.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

We love Jacks pizza so I bought 5. When I did I received a $2 off 6 catalina! So, I went back and bought 6 more pizzas at $10 making it $1.67 each. The best part was that after I bought the 6 pizzas I received another catalina for $2 off 6!
Which, by the way, is there anyway to know when a product will produce a catalina that’s not advertised? Or am I just missing where it was advertised?

We had it in MI last week and it’s in the IL current flier …
Look at page 32 of the flyer, then the bottom of page 33.
I bought 6 pairs total for my niece’s three kids. They’re in Okinawa, where Levi jeans for a 7-year-old run $25 each.

running at Ultra/town and country, printed at the Valparaiso In location. Says manufacturer coupon $2 off any 6 pizzas and does not expire until 11-3-12

I know there are a lot of people out there that complained about the jean deal in the grocery items, but technically it should be included, as many of the deals in your blog are technically NOT groceries…soap, make-up, paper products, feminine products, deoderant, etc. Yet, they still manage to make it in since it is a grocery store and not a department store. I for one would like the jeans in there as long as it relates to me getting a catalina or gift card (see I can’t even recall what it was) to spend on my groceries and other non-food items.
For example…Split transactions: Buy jeans > get catalina or gift card > use on food and non-food purchases.

(For those NOT looking for a deal on boys’ or girls’ jeans, please SKIP this post.)
Through 10/13/12, when you spend $25 on a Meijer gift card, you’ll get $10 off a pair of jeans! And this week through Wednesday, 9/26, boys’ and girls’ Falls Creek jeans are on sale for… $10! So, if you’ll shop at Meijer, well, anytime in the future… the jeans are FREE when you buy the gift card.
The jeans offer is limited to one pair per transaction. Keep in mind that you can buy the jeans, then go back and use the $25 gift card to buy your groceries. A nice deal!

I looked at the Walgreens monthly booklet and only found the Scrubbing Bubbles coupon. Am I missing something on the Pledge Coupon or are they not in every booklet?

Did this deal on Thursday and it worked fine with the mfg Qs stacking with the eQs paid $.54 each and purchased a dozen. Went to Crystal Lake store. When trying these, I recommend you purchase all in one transaction versus dividing it up.

Nearest I see to McHenry is Elk Grove Village. Is that right? And it’s called Food 4 Less. I’ll travel some but not 27 miles for a deal :~D

I found the Target coupon, but can’t locate the one on coupons.com. I have looked at every page, I have even changed the zip code, and I still can’t find it. I think I am losing my mind. It is a good deal too. Please help.

If you stack the $4 off $12 cosmetic purchase with the $5 Revlon coupon you can score an awesome deal at CVS! All Revlon is B1G50%. I bought the concealer, but I’m pretty sure the powder is the same price. The blush was $1 more if I recall. Here’s what I did.
2 Blemish Fighting Concealers
– 1 rang up at $9.99 (full price)
– 1 rang up at $4.99 (half off)
Total = $14.98
After coupons my final total was $0.98!

Does meijer price match? such as the Centrum Pronutrients? Plan of doing the buy $25 and free $10 jeans?

i went to wags and got the pledge. when she took off the free coupon she only took off $3 instead of $3.50 because of the store coupon. is that how they do it or did i loose out on $.50?

I’ve noticed over the past month or so that Meijer brand milk is $1.78 a gallon at my Elgin store. I believe it is to compete with Wal-mart across the street who sells it at the same price. The brand new Sams Club has Members Mark gallons of milk for $1.67 as well.

charmin deal at target be better than at meijer? buy 2 pkgs of either 9ct. mega rolls or 18ct double rolls, at $9.99 ea. use 2 $.25 q’s, pay $19.48 & get $5 g.c. for a net cost of $14.48 which equals $.45 roll for double & $.80 for mega rolls.

When I scanned my card at the kiosk at CVS today a whole bunch printed out. One was $1.50 off Organix body wash or lotion. I hadn’t planned on buying organix, but an extra 1.50 off the sale and ECB deal made the 7.99 body wash come out to $2.49. Maybe this printed out for me since I bought Organix a few weeks back when it was on sale? Something to watch for in any case.

I had a question about the RR for the Cottonelle at Walgreens. I bought two but I did not receive a RR. It is not listed in the store ad, so I was wanting to verify if there is supposed to be a RR for that or not.
Thanks!
dancingwolves says
I went this morning to the Algonquin store and didn’t see any sale on any Charmin bath tissue on the shelf or in the paper. I picked up the 24 double roll size and it scanned at $14.87. Was this sale last week or is going to be coming this Thursday? I know there is confusion sometimes between locations and they have different sale weeks.

Target has a couple of decent deals that weren’t in their weekly ad –
They have a bunch of different styling products that are part of a buy 2 get one free deal
I was interested in the Crew and TIGI/bed head products, but there are others included.
These things aren’t cheap to begin with, and I rarely find a Q or these items on sale.
Most stuff is in the $10 – $17 range so if you like these products, this is a nice deal.
Nature Made Vitamins are part of a buy 3 get $5 gift card
I saw some items for $7.99. There is also a Target Q booklet at the pharmacy counter that has Target Q’s for Nature Made products (e.g. $5 off 3 items)
so 3 x $7.99 = $23.97 – $5 gift card – $5 Target Q – 2 $2.25 online printables – $2 Q from 9/9 SS = $7.47 or about $2.50 each. I think this turns out to be a better deal that they’re running at CVS this week.
Oh, and the 70% clothes clearance rack had some cute stuff for ~$5!
Enjoy!
