“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. - 4oz. single portions of salmon, tilapia, and other varieties of fish are $1 each – that’s $4/lb.
Jewel produce deals:

(Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)

Colgate Optic White Toothpaste (4oz.) is on sale for $2.99. Buy it and get $1 back in ECBs! Use the $1.50 coupon from 9/11 SS2. You’ll pay $1.49 and get $1 back, making this .49! This offer is limit 2 per CVS card.
DIAPER DEALS:
CVS is running a “Spend $30, Get $10 in ECBs” deal on diapers and baby products.
Here are your diaper matchups:
Luvs Jumbo Packs – $7
Huggies Pull-Ups or GoodNites – $13.99
Pampers Big Boxes – $20
– $1 off – 8/28 PG
Pampers Jumbo Packs – $9
– $1 off 2 – 8/28 PG
_________________________________
Keep in mind that the jumbo packs are also part of CVS’ “Buy 6 jumbo packs of CVS, Luvs, Pampers or Huggies diapers, get your 7th pack FREE” deal. You could buy two Pampers Jumbo packs and two Luvs jumbo packs ($32.) Use the $1.50-off-2 Pampers, pay $30.50 and get $10 back. That makes your four packs $20.50, or about $5.13 each. You’ll also get credit for 4 packs toward the “Buy 6, get 7th free” diaper deal.
Keep racking up more cheap diapers with this one… CVS Supreme Diapers or Training Pants jumbo packs are on an ECB deal too. Buy a pack at $6.99 and get $2 back in ECBs. That drops them to $4.99.
Again, with both of these deals, you’ll also get credit for another pack of diapers toward CVS’ “Buy 6 jumbo packs of CVS, Luvs, Pampers or Huggies diapers, get your 7th pack FREE” deal. (This deal is cumulative and keeps track of your purchases for you.)
Trident Gum packs are on sale for $1 each. Buy three and get $1 back in ECBs! Use the $1-off-3 coupon from 9/18 SS, pay $2 for three and get $1 back! That’s three for $1, or about .33 each!
“No Coupon Needed” Deals
Salma Hayek’s Nuance line of makeup, skincare and haircare products are on a “Spend $20, get $10 in ECBs” sale this week. No coupons available, but if you’ve wanted to try these, this would sweeten the deal.
When I attended BlogHer 2011 earlier this year, I attended a luncheon sponsored by CVS in which they debuted Salma’s product line, then sent us home with samples. Many of her skincare and haircare items have natural ingredients in them, and I’ve liked everything I’ve tried so far.
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
I spotted some pretty good deals at Walmart this week after going over there to try to use up my $2 Purina Cat Food coupons before they expired.
1lb. boxes of Purina One Cat Food are $2.59. Use the $2 coupon from 8/21 SS and pay .59!
Travel-sized Connect 4 and Battleship Fun-on-the-Run games are $4.50. Use the $4 coupon from 9/11 SS1 and pay .50!
Card-game versions of Scrabble and Monopoly are $5.59. Use the $4 coupon from 9/11 SS1 and pay $1.59!
(Even if you do not “need” the games, these are great items to pick up now and donate to Toys For Tots later this year if you can afford to do so.)
Some Febreze Noticeables Warmers are on clearance for $3 (the ones I found were a “Limited Edition Decor” design with a pink shade with a red flower on it.) Use the $3 coupon from 8/28 PG and pay NOTHING! It’s FREE!
In Huntley, I found these in a clearance aisle near the greeting cards versus with the other (non-clearanced) Noticeables.
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I tried the walgreen up 2 u gum today and the Assistant manager said i could not do it because the ad and the booklet coupon would not work together, super bummed, but I got a couple of them of .50, I would of bought them all for free though :( Help Jill. I know that sometimes Walgreens has a hard time on Sunday’s because their coupons are not all registered, do you think i should try later in the week? I will say that the manager was super nice, and tried several different ways to ring it up and it didn’t work. P.S. I’m in the Quad Cities.

Can you combine 1 Softsoap body wash ($1 coupon) and 1 Softsoap hand soap (70 cent coupon) and still get the deal? Or do you have to buy 2 of the same things? :)thanks!
cschelthoff says
The problem is the IVC was not scanning. Corporate sent out an email (I was told) to manually adjust the price of the gum to allow for the discount (I bought over 60 and they just scanned one at .49 times 12 [the number in a case times the number of cases]) – easy, peasy. But then I shop at some uber-coupon friendly Walgreens.

CVS has 8ct. Excedrin extra strength PM or Migraine for .99 with .99 rr. Limit 2.
I wonder if they are behind the counter like the 1ct. Thermacare box. I didn’t see them in the aisle (just like Thermacare 1ct.) and couldn’t find it in the sales paper at that particular moment to ask for a raincheck.

There is a small Windex deal at Walgreens this week. Buy 3 Windex get $2 RR. Windex Multi-Surface is 2.99 each. Buy 3 Multi-Surface Windex = $9, minus $2RR, minus 3-$1Q from 9/25S. The $1 Q are only for Windex Multi-Surface. I did this today, worked great.
soapboxtray says
There is a $1. off Safeway store brand products in the freezer pamphlet that had the $5. off $15. frozen Q (pizza shown in photo) wondering if we can use that with the super coupon at Dom’s. I will give it a try. Also last week or maybe before there were Sally Hansen Target Qs on the Target site if you printed them a good combo with the ManQ.

The Algonquin Meijer had the 12oz American singles priced at $1.79 ea. Buying five @ $1.79 = $8.95 – $3.00 generated Meijer Cheese CAT = $5.95/5= $1.19 ea
HappyMom88 says
The Algonquin Meijer wasn’t a money maker deal for us. The q’s have to be hand entered since they are not scanning at any of the registers. So, they are entering them at sale price…$.79 ea.
MissyB1 says
There was a peelie pad of coupons at the courtesy counter at Jewel that had a Q for $1.00 off 2 Nabisco crackers or cookies (it also had Q’s for Maxwell House coffee and Kraft Mayo). If you buy 10 boxes of Nabisco crackers you get and additional $0.50 off each box which brings them to $1.99 each – but using 5 x $1 Q’s you get them for about $1.50 per box which is the lowest I’ve ever been able to buy Ritz/Wheat Thins/Triscuits.

Could not find on the shelf or in center aisle so asked a clerk. Told them where I had looked. That clerk asked another soon had 5 clerks(no kidding). Too funny. All thought they were in the center aisle. Turns out they were in back. One clerk came out with a box of them but where they put them???? So ask if you can not find them.

It works I tried it today!
However, the UP2U gum in the Wags booklet is still not scanning correctly and the cashier was kind enough to deduct $2.

Hello, I live in the Quad Cities too and the best wags is on Locust St and Brady. The manager there is super coupon friendly so they should be able to help. I’ve had a couple of managers price over ride it to what the cost would be minus the store coupons. Hope that helps!
