If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has discontinued its Avenu ecoupons as of 6/18/12. The ecoupons you can currently use with Jewel-Osco now are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
LAST IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has gone to a one-page paper ad in the newspaper in some market areas, but the full 8+ page Sunday ad is available online at www.jewelosco.com. This ad is valid at ALL stores, even if you did not receive the full ad in your local paper.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday, September 2.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
(I did not receive tomorrow’s Target ad in my early-edition Saturday paper. If there’s anything noteworthy when Sunday’s paper arrives tomorrow, I’ll update.)
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Kroger is running 4x the fuel point when you buy a giftcard thru Sept. 8th. It excludes Kroger giftcards. But if you buy a $25 giftcard then you start the month with 100 points which is .10 for a fillup.

So buy 10, $39.99 get $10 back and use $10 coupons = $20 or $2.00 each. Not bad but not as good as $1.50 each.

Mariano’s has pampers baby wipes on sale for $1.49. If you have the $.50 coupon you can get them for less than a dollar.
The sale end 9/9/12

I had the same problem of CAT not printing at Dom this afternoon. I bought 10 OM deli fresh meat and 4 Honey Bunches of Oats Strawberry. No CAT on both products. Assistant manager told me because I used my previous Kraft CAT to pay for the transaction so the new one would not print. Sounds like Walgreens. I asked if he can re-ring the OM items and I don’t use any coupons/CAT and see if the new CAT will print. He refused to do it. Anyway, I contacted catalina and hopefully I will receive both my CATS.

I know there were better deals on Coke last week, but I totally spaced and forgot to go take advantage! Now I have a couple of Centrella $2 off wyb 4 coupons that I really want to use before they expire on the 5th. On my J4U list, there’s a deal where you buy 2 12 packs and get 3 free. Does anyone know if/how that combines with the deal match from Jewel (4 for $11)? I guess I’m wondering if I can get away with buying 2 12 packs and getting 3 free, or if I have to buy 4? I plan to ask at customer service when I get there, but just thought I’d see if anyone else had done this yet.

I went to Dominick’s to deal the $1.77 Deal Match they have for the Pop Tarts 12-pack (from Jewel).
They rang up for $3.38. When I asked the, service desk employee brought over their master deal book, and it showed the deal match, but for a 14-oz package, which is the 8-count. Be wary, as it is the 12-pack at Jewel for the same price.
I asked Jill about this, and she is waiting for a reply from Dominick’s.
kensbaby93 says
making them $4.24 a case ($2.12 a 12 pack to compare prices)

I have a question about the Kraft catalina. I bought 8 Kraft shredded cheese and 4 Kraft salad dressings at Food 4 Less. I totally forgot about the catalina until I got all the way home. I called the store and asked about it. The lady said to just bring it in and they would take care of it. The next day the manager that I talked to just said that he couldn’t do anything about it. If it didn’t print, then pretty much to bad. I saw what a previous person had written. I did get 8oz. bags too. Any reason why you think I didn’t get a catalina? Did I have to buy 10 of the same thing? Is there anything else I can do?
pinkcupcake says
Thank you! I did send an email to the catalina. We will see!

So the best deal is buy 5 use 5-.50 cent printables. Pay $2.50 get $3 RR. Even ifnyou have groups of three coupons buy 5 use 3-.50 coupons pay $3.50 get $3 RR. A great deal and most bags I got were 20% bonus bags:-)
