Hope everyone’s enjoying the lovely weather we’re having, and that your homes are well-stockpiled with groceries!
I asked my sons to put their boots on and open the back door. This was the result!
This probably goes without saying, but if you’re one of my Chicagoland readers, stay off the roads if you can today. Lake County has a state of emergency and has closed ALL roads.
(And if you’re an avid snowmobiler, you were probably up at dawn to hit the trails! I bet my wonderful father has an amazing day out riding today! Up in my neck of the woods, snowmobilers rescued 60 people stranded on the highway near Hampshire, and the Tribune stated that this was the first time that the city of Chicago leased 50 snowmobiles for the fire department to aid residents too.)

are LOVING this! They’ve been outside since 9 and show no signs of slowing down. There’s 6′ drifts in my road and we don’t have plowing so I think it’s going to be a while before I can get out.

I’ve needed to defrost my freezer, so I thought today would be the perfect day to do it. I stored my food outside while it defrosted, and now I’m all ready for the frozen food sales:)
Love the picture, too!

These drifts are crazy! My regular door opens in and the glass storm door opens out so had to go through the garage to shovel out my front door (which took an hour). Hopefully bf will be here later to plow… he has been out plowing for 24 hrs. now I told him I would reward him with those good looking bacon wrapped meat things that Jewel had a little while back for next to nothing (not a red meat eater so can’t recall, but he will love them, and knew what I was talking about ;-)). Be safe if you have to be out!

Thank God for wonderful neighbors and friends- they were able to help with my driveway today- and I looked down the block and other neighbors were helping other families out:-) I have 2 beagles and they were buried in the drifts:) One was just eating the snow as he was trying to run through. Thanks so much for all you do Jill- it has really helped our family a lot!

We had 4 feet of snow in front of our door. Took about an hour to dig out to the garage and another hour to snow blow the drive way. I am sorry but I thought it was a lot of fun. My 5 year old kept rolling down the snow hills. Her laugh became contagious. I can not remember laughing that hard and that long. I am so greatful for having the most wonderful little girl & husband ever.

I posted a picture of the 5′ drift that was against my garage door yesterday morning, along with the result of 2 hours with the snow blower over on FB.
Other than the drift against the garage, the worst spot on the driveway was about 2′. It came up over the front of the snowblower in many places. Which meant 2 passes just about everywhere. We were clear to escape in an emergency by 10am.
The street in front of my house was clean by first light yesterday, but we’re still worried about drifting along the open roads where it isn’t all built up suburbia. I’ve got to commend the Dundee township road folks for the fantastic job they do. Who knows how long it will be before all the Chicago side streets are as clear as my street was yesterday morning.
Yesterday afternoon I did shovel out a 3′ path to the grill, and fire it up, so it’s ready to go. Haven’t even thought about trying to clear off any of the rest of the deck, or even outside the back door, where there is a 3-4′ wall of white.
Oh, yea, no Trib or Wednesday sales fliers yesterday, and no mail. We’ll see what today brings.
