Many coupon blogs have been discussing the counterfeit coupon usage on TLC’s Extreme Couponing this week, and some of the statements decrying coupon fraud have come from the show’s own shoppers. Here are some reactions from former Extreme Couponing participants:
“These people were really excited to be on the show, and there is tremendous pressure to have a high total and then bring it back down again. I know, because I was sweating bullets during our entire shoot and the producers physically with us were on the phone to the “big guns” the entire trip, recounting our every move and how much they thought we would be saving and spending.
“With that pressure, the people on last nights show I am sure ORDERED their coupons from places like Ebay and other online avenues where you have NO IDEA where these coupons are coming from! … Every person on the show said, “This is my biggest trip ever!” Yes, because you were on T.V. and they pushed you to have it that big!
“All the new couponers out there trying to copy what they saw on the show, are the people we see now clearing the shelves, and stealing coupons. They are so excited to get something free that they don’t care how to do it properly or do it legally.”

“Nothing but more fraud being showcased. They suckered Kmart into sponsoring the show… Also, once again the million dollar question is: Where do they get so many “free” item coupons?”Jessica Hacker, Extreme Couponing Season 1, Episode 2, All-Stars.

“A few of you have messaged me about getting high value & FREE product coupons like the ones seen on last night’s episode of Extreme Couponing…my answer…you don’t! I’m not throwing out accusations, but I will say that some of the coupons used in last night’s Extreme Couponing episode are ones that I’ve never (nor has my couponing community) seen. In fact, some of them are on the CIC’s list of fradulent coupons.
“Using fraudulent coupons is a big no-no and producing fraudulent coupons is even worse, just ask this guy! When a consumer uses a fraudulent coupon at a store and it is accepted, the store will NOT be reimbursed for that money. Once it gets to the coupon clearinghouse and flagged as fake, the store loses out on the money and couponers get a bad name.”

I read Tiffany’s blog above yesterday. She has been trying to tell her followers that the show is not what people can do in their own lives. Buyer beware!
