Here’s a Fox News report from St. Louis on the rise of counterfeit coupon usage:
The reporter speaks with Chadd Salter, Manager of Investigations with Schnucks, who says “it seems like they’re coming out daily. It’s non stop.” Stores are seeing more fake coupons show up at their registers more than ever before. The counterfeiters are not necessarily the ones trying to use them at the store or supermarket. Salter says “unfortunately the consumer may not even know they have a counterfeit coupon”. Many look and feel like the real thing.

I am now paranoid about using my $10 coupon for a package of Brita filters. They sent me the coupon when I didn’t receive my rebate. Hopefully the day I redeem it one of my favorite cashiers will be working!
Really a shame that people are always looking for a way to make a buck off a shmuck.
