It’s that time of year when the seasonal scents of Febreze items are hitting the clearance shelves! My Huntley Jewel-Osco has a large number of cans of Pumpkin and Cranberry scented Febreze Air sprays on clearance for $1.24 each. And, look what I found on MyMixx:
$3.00 off any two Febreze Air! Now, you would think that this would net me two free Febreze air sprays, but unfortunately the MyMixx “glitch that keeps on glitching” negatively affects this deal.
This issue has been present since MyMixx rolled out in 2015, and it’s not an issue on Jewel’s end — it’s a problem with the way Quotient, who handles the MyMixx offers, processes an offer when a single item’s price is less than the total dollar value of a multiple-item offer. (I have tried to contact them about this on numerous occasions over the years, but it’s not yet been resolved.)
This can be a little confusing, but if you’ve ever experienced this at the register and wondered why you lost most of the value of your MyMixx offer, here’s what’s taking place:
MyMixx simply does not seem to be able to handle situations where the total dollar value of a multiple-item offer (in this case, $3.00 off two Febreze) exceeds the cost of ONE single item. As you can see, the Febreze Air Cranberry is on clearance for $1.24.
Because $1.24 is less than $3.00, the register will take one, single, $1.24 discount off after the second Febreze spray is scanned. It will not automatically take the $3.00 off two, nor will it even take off the $2.48 total for two cans. For lack of a better term, it seems to get “lost” and only take off the total price of the first item.
Unfortunately, this issue is so common that I asked if I could photograph the scan process at the register for my blog.
I entered my MyMixx number in at the register, and my cashier scanned the first can, which rang up at $1.24.
When the second Febreze is scanned, MyMixx takes off $1.24 instead of the $3.00 total for buying two Febreze.
Again, this problem is very common — I see it frequently with offers on 2-liters of soda too. If you have an offer for $1.00 off four 2-liters of soda, and 2-liters are on sale for .89, MyMixx will take .89 off (the price of one bottle) and simply “lose” the rest of the discount for the remaining items.
Here’s my receipt and my two clearance Febreze Cranberry sprays. While both of them should have been free with the $3-off-2 MyMixx coupon, only one was free. Unfortunately, my store said they can no longer adjust MyMixx offers at the register that ring incorrectly, so I paid $1.24 for two sprays.
While paying less than .75 per can for Febreze is still a great price, it’s irksome that this issue has existed for so long with no resolution. I do wonder what happens to the rest of the discount, as presumably, P&G is reimbursing the retailer for the full $3.00 value when two cans of Febreze are purchased.
UPDATE: On 1/28/18, a new $1.50-off-1 MyMixx offer appeared for Febreze. If your store has these on clearance for $1.24 too, you can grab one and it will ring free — I went back and did it this Sunday. You will not get overage, but it will take $1.24 off for the single Febreze.

Grrrr! This happens to me all the time and I could never figure out why. Any time I buy something cheap on clearance. I have even tried to say, well if you are only going to give me part of the discount for one, just let me buy one but the discount doesn’t come off til the second item is scanned.
I wonder why Jewel has not made MyMixx fix this on their end.
So I am wondering, the Pumpkin Febrezes are still $2.48 at my store (saw em Saturday) but the same problem is going to happen because $2.48 is under $3 right?
Coupon Maven says
Yes. Even at $2.48, the $3-off-2 MyMixx isn’t going to ring correctly. It will take $2.48 off after the second can is scanned and the rest of the discount will disappear.
Your better bet is to use the new $1.50 Febreze MyMixx — you can grab the $2.48 can for .98, or load the offer & wait for the price to drop again…

You’d think Jewel would work with its service provider to fix this ASAP. Jewel is a store that generally only becomes palatable for bargain hunters through the use of coupons. MyMixx is one of the few things that gives it any advantage over Aldi or Walmart.

I have had different outcomes with the MyMixx working right lately. My husband and I both had that $3/2 loaded to our accts. and found those exact same sprays on clearance for only $1. This was the 1st week of January. I figured it would only take off the 1 can for $1 and we’d lose the other $2 savings, so I watched the register and alerted my (awesome) cashier that it should have taken off the full $3 for both cans purchased. She entered a “eCoupon Assist……NI…..-$2.00 FS” right after she rang up my other items in cart. I did get the overage, only because my cashier knew how to do it AND my store is still allowing them to do it. I got lucky!
A few days later, we both found small Newman’s Own salad dressing on the clearance rack priced at $1, and it matched EXACTLY the MyMixx $1/1 any Newman’s dressing and the register took it off perfectly that time for each of our transactions. (since they were both loaded to our phones) Then a few more days later I bought the sale priced Dannon Protein cups for 88c each, as was in the ad, and the MyMixx $1/3 did come off the full $1 (instead of the 88c each cup price) I was expecting it to say “limit of 88c reached” like it has been when it is below the coupon on a single item in a multiple deal, just like your $1.24 Febreze? How did that happen? I wonder if it has anything to do with the yogurt being just on sale and NOT on clearance?
There are only a handful of cashiers that I will trust to handle coupons correctly at Jewel. They should be able to make it right at the service desk if the MyMixx does not work right. I will not buy the item if not!
*by the way, 2 cans of Pumpkin Febreze were left on the clearance rack last week and they dropped those to 50c a can! I had no digital or paper coupons left, making those free, so I left them there. Hopefully someone else had the awesome $3/2 loaded to their MyMixx, yet I highly doubt many others go to the trouble WE do to coupon!!!
