Have you seen tomorrow’s Jewel ad? From 4/19-4/21, there’s a store coupon on the front page that makes Ken’s Salad Dressing .99 per bottle when you buy two. And, there’s a $1 coupon for Ken’s in the 3/11 SS that would make these FREE.
But Jewel’s current policy does not allow a coupon to be used if it exceeds the cost of the item.
But the Ken’s Salad Dressing is actually $1.49 before the store coupon. Can we stack into overage and make these free?
And… Lawry’s Marinades are .99 each when you buy three as part of the “Buy 2, Get 1 FREE” sale. The 4/15 RP has a $1 coupon that would make these FREE too. Jewel’s policy allows you to use one coupon on each item in a Buy 1 Get 1 Free situation, so you’d think this would be similar… but again, what happens when the combination of the free item and coupons pushes the price of three Lawry’s into negative numbers when three coupons are used?
These were the questions that ran through my mind when I saw the ad, and several readers wrote asking the same. So I turned to Jewel. Can we use these coupons in this way? Jewel’s answer: YES! I emailed corporate today, and here’s the reply:
As you know, our current coupon policy does state that a coupon cannot exceed the price of an item.
However, after I received your email this morning, I reached out to our front end team to see what we can do to better serve our customers. We have come to the agreement that we will accept these $1.00 coupons, as long as the total is not a negative balance. We cannot change the value of the coupons, so a customer must make an additional purchase to cover the penny overage.
As a side note, we have sent communication to our stores to accept these coupons as well.
Thanks so much for alerting me to a possible situation!
There you go… now it’s official! Happy shopping, and enjoy your free dressings and marinades!

It is great you checked this out. Jewel is back on my love list! I saw on Rachel’s blog today she was not sure either if they’d take them https://www.mashupmom.com/2012/04/18/jewel-possibly-free-items-but-possibly-not/

Does that mean I can use the freezer coupons for the Sunkist and get the items for free? Assuming the price is $1.

I noticed that the Jewel coupon was not ringing up at all. I was told that the discount now shows at the top by the item. However, they were still ringing up at $1.49 each. They are going to bring it to the attention to the manager.

Hi Jill,
I purchased the $169 freezer with the free item coupons that you talk about in the Super Couponing DVD. Many of the items that I have free coupons for are on the B2,G1 free sale this week. Is now a good time to use my free item coupon, or do you think they will have a B1, G1 free sale on the same items before they expire (6/30/12)?
If I used them now, I would have to buy one item, and get two free. A true B1, G1 would not cost me anything out of pocket, so I don’t know if I should wait, or take advantage of this sale now.
I’d really appreciate your advice! Thanks, Cheryl

The West Dundee Jewel would not take the $1.00 Ken’s coupon Friday morning.

If you’re avoiding HFCS, watch the Lawry’s marinades. The flavors I found that do not contain it are Original Seasoning Salt, Tuscan Sun-Dried Tomato, and Santa Fe Chili.
