I tried to do this deal last week and they flat out denied my coupons! I did the deal last time with the insert coupon but this time they would not allow the printed one. I had other things in my cart to absorb the overage and even would have been happy if they would have reduced the coupon down to just make them free but they said it is not their policy to allow to get an item free using coupons. I had this same argument with the store manager last time they had Crest toothpaste free with a coupon and after he refused me flat out I called Menards headquarters. They told me I was right and they should have honored the coupons. I just said OK and left the stuff on the counter this time and walked out. I then printed up their own policy off their site and it clearly states I was well within the rules! I did not go back because I was too mad they cannot train the stores employees on coupon usage.

I’m so sorry to hear they told you no — there’s nothing in their policy that would have prevented their usage. I remember during the last sale that I was very curious to see what would happen with the overage, but it scanned just fine with no intervention.
That is so frustrating, because I think it’s one of those things that really can differ by store and by cashier.
I THINK these toothbrushes are around $1 all the time at Menards when they aren’t on sale if you decide to go back at some point. I will check the next time I go to Menards too.

I know, but even if they are exactly $1 regular price, they would still be free using that $2/2 coupon. (I think I moved the tag to see the regular price back in the fall, and it was more than $1?) That’s why I wanted to get them since they were such a great price! I had forgotten about the 11% rebate going on. I hate to whip out the policy and upset the employees. I think Menards is a great store but they do not handle as many coupons like the grocery stores do, so they are out of practice, of sorts? Funny thing is, I have plenty toothbrushes in my stockpile right now, I would have donated these if they would have given them to me. Our local church has a great pantry and they are always needing toiletries!
