Garden Party: Look who (finally) decided to show up!

Our garden has performed somewhat erratically this summer. We’ve had lots of cucumbers, a steady supply of small tomatoes, and… until recently, not much else. My zucchini plants never produced a single fruit. My pole beans have climbed everything in sight, with leafy green vines that produced nothing. I was beginning to wonder if we’d have any beans, but last week, one vine finally produced enough beans to have with dinner.

This morning, I went out to the garden, and all of the other bean poles were covered with beans! Finally!

(Better late than never!) If this continues, I’ll be freezing beans this weekend. Hooray!

Our tomato plants are almost done for the year. These will likely be our last small-but-mighty tomatoes…

We were traveling earlier this month, and when we came back, the kids were thrilled to spot two pumpkins finally growing on a very rambling pumpkin vine. Each is currently about the size of a volleyball:

And look who else finally showed up… hello, broccoli!
