Fall officially begins this week, and the pumpkin spice flavor craze is already under way! I thought I’d seen it all — everything from pumpkin spice lattes to Pop-Tarts to Cheerios. Then, I heard something too wild to be true: The Today Show announced that CVS Pharmacy is selling limited-edition Pumpkin Spice cough drops.
Pumpkin Spice Cough Drops! Are you kidding me?
I thought this product was worthy of a JillCataldo.com blog investigation, and I immediately reached out to my contact at CVS’ corporate to see if I could procure a few bags to review and share with readers. CVS was more than happy to oblige, and a few days later, a box containing what could be the most unusual cough drop flavor on the market arrived at my door.
Now, these aren’t simply a store-brand cough drop — they are a Limited Edition store-brand cough drop!
Of course, the entire family had to try these. Well, everyone except my Dad, who was spending some family time with us on cough-drop taste-test day and politely declined. He thought no good could come of a combination of pumpkin and menthol. I understood his concerns, but in the interest of sharing this new product with you, I pressed on and popped one in my mouth.
Shockingly, these CVS Pumpkin Spice cough drops taste quite good. The menthol flavor is much softer than we expected, buried under stronger notes of cloves and cinnamon. The initial flavor is definitely pumpkin, but it softens into a nice clove/pumpkin flavor throughout without the menthol overpowering any of the other flavors. My sons quickly pronounced these “great” and “better than Halls.”
CVS Health Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice cough drops sell for $1.67 at CVS Pharmacy, but two of my lucky readers will each win a FREE bag! It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Haiku giveaway here on the blog, so get ready to get your Pumpkin Spice poetry on.
Haiku is a simple Japanese poetry made up of three lines of text. The first line has five syllables, the second seven, the last, five again. For example:
Pumpkin Spice season
Has returned again. What next?
Pumpkin bath tissue?
Based on past haiku giveaways, I know how creative (and hilarious!) you readers can be. To enter, simply leave a comment in the form of a Haiku poem featuring the word “Pumpkin” under this article! This giveaway begins today, September 21, 2017, and runs for one week. The giveaway will end on September 27, 2017 at 11:59pm CST, and on September 28, I’ll choose two winners based on your creativity. You can enter as many times as you’d like, so if you’re feeling extra-poetic, let your creative pumpkin juices flow.
Thanks to CVS for sending these Pumpkin Spice cough drops over to share, to my family for taste-testing them with me in a pumpkin patch, and to the local pumpkin patch where I also shot these lovely photos of cough drops for this post. I appreciate that not a single person questioned why I was photographing cough drops among their pumpkin and gourd displays.
(Oh, the life of a blogger..! My dad seemed so amused by what I was up to on this particular family outing that he took a photo of me taking pumpkin-patch photos of cough drops.)
UPDATE: Giveaway has ended. The winners are Meghan and Bridget.
Legal: This giveaway is sponsored by CVS Pharmacy. Responding to this post with a pumpkin-related Haiku poem qualifies readers to enter the contest.
