Disclosure: This giveaway is sponsored by Mary Potter Kenyon. I have received a copy of “Coupon Crazy,” as well as information to help promote the product as part of this giveaway. I also wrote the forward for this book.
Super-Couponers, this week’s giveaway is a special one (read on to find out why!) TWO of my readers will each win a copy of the soon-to-be-released book, “Coupon Crazy!”
Author Mary Potter Kenyon’s new book, “Coupon Crazy,” hits stores this August 1st. It’s a fun read! Mary chronicles her own path to becoming a couponer, along with her memories of the “glory days” of rebating and refunding and how couponing has changed over the past few decades. It’s a personal romp through the deal highs and lows we’ve all experienced as couponers.
So, why is the book special to me? Mary began writing this book in 2010. Last year, as it neared completion, she reached out to me and shared a copy of her manuscript, along with a touching email. I’ll share a few of her words here:
I have continued following you as the voice of reason in regards to the “extreme couponing” movement triggered by the TLC television program. In fact, I have changed some of my own couponing practices in the two years since beginning this book. I no longer find the use of coupon-clipping services acceptable, especially after my research on coupon fraud and my own searches on eBay that revealed many fraudulent free product coupons.
Jill, I cannot think of a more appropriate person to write the foreword for my book. Would you consider writing a 450-500 word foreword, reflecting on the changes you’ve seen in the years you have been involved in couponing?
How could I possibly say no to that? I enjoyed reading Mary’s book immensely. She reflects on a lot of the coupon and rebate deals of the 80s – deals I remember my own mother doing, who was also an avid couponer and rebater back in the day. And if you win a copy, you’ll open your book and see this:
More about Mary Potter Kenyon’s new book, Coupon Crazy:
Coupon Crazy examines the phenomena of avid coupon use and the socio-cultural and socioeconomic factors that construct it. By delving into the history of couponing, refunding, the science of shopping, and the dark underbelly of a coupon world the average American didn’t even know existed, author Mary Potter Kenyon manages to both fascinate and educate the reader. Readers will meet today’s “Coupon Queens” (and Kings) and learn about an era when trash really was cash. Not just an observer of this ethnographic research, Mary lived it for over 30 years.
“The saving money phenomenon is one of the most powerful consumer trends we have ever seen. Coupon Crazy goes beyond the headlines and television shows to unearth what this trend is all about, who it effects and why and underscores why it is here to stay. Every marketer, retailer and consumer needs to read this book; it offers the lessons to succeed both professionally and personally.”–Phil Lempert, Editor, Columnist & CEO, www.SupermarketGuru.com

I love to read and I love to coupon. This book would be perfect for me. I have been couponing since the 80s and I remember well sending off for many a rebate back then. I used them to buy savings bonds for my son who is now 28 years old. Of course those bonds are long-gone now, but they helped him pay for a vehicle!

Jill, I have been couponing for over 30 years. My family calls me the “coupon queen” which I earned 28 years ago when we went on a family vacation to Disney World complements of couponing. Coupon queens today keep a lot of businesses open and never get thanked for that. Would love to get the book as it is a luxury that is not in the budget and I don’t have a coupon for it.
Love your site and all that you do. Enjoy your time at the convention.

Hello I am a crazy couponer. I can remember when I was young and my grandmother giving me the Daily News or Green Sheet the food section on Thursday and I would cut out coupons and pretend ( I was only 8 at the time) I was shopping at a store I would use them as money. I would love to reduce my grocery bill. As an adult my daughter and I make up a coupon duo team. We are couponmammas9068, In fact I am getting the assistance from my 4 year old granddaughter and my 3 year old grandson they are little couponers. They don’t quite understand but when we shop they see grandma’s and mom’s coupon notebook and ask “Do we have a coupon for that”. It’s cute.
I can tell you this we need all the help we can get. This book would be a god send for us. Its sounds like it has a lot of information and can take us from basic couponers to extreme couponers.

I am a former avid coupon clipper. As a single parent with 3 young kids, I would spend my Saturdays with newspaper clippings all over my living room carpet– cutting, organizing, and meal planning in order to make ends meet. I eventually burned out from all this and quit couponing. My kids grew up, I got remarried, and the need was less urgent. Now it seems like the trend is back, the economy is tight, and I may want to explore couponing once again. Maybe not the Extreme Couponing, as I have limited space to store bulk purchases, but enough to make it worth my while!
Would love to win Mary Kenyon Potter’s book.
