Earlier this year, I attended a bloggers’ conference at CVS’ headquarters, and as part of “Beauty Day,” we received a bunch of new products to try out. One of the most intriguing things I received was a gift pack from Hollywood Fashion Secrets. It contained a bunch of different products to help you dress with style and practicality.

Well, I quickly realized that some of these little items and gadgets were truly must-haves — particularly the Boot Straps, Fashion Tape and Hip Hugger, which I’ll gush over more in a moment… because I have TWO of these great Hollywood Fashion Secrets gift packs to give away to two of my blog readers!

My thoughts on Hollywood Fashion Secrets:

When I got this gift pack, I put it in a drawer in my closet and left it there until I “needed” some of the items. These are the kinds of things that you don’t know you need — until you do! The first item I tried was the Fashion Tape over Halloween. See this cut-down-to-there costume top I wore? It stayed right where it was supposed to, thanks to a couple pieces of strategically-placed Fashion Tape. I danced all night long and never had a “wardrobe malfunction.”

The second item I’m using (and finding alternative uses for too) is the Hip Hugger. It’s an elastic strap with fabric-safe clips on each end. You can clip it along the rear waistband of your jeans to keep the dreaded “gap” from revealing itself. I’ve also been using this to gather up large shirts in the back and give them the appearance of a waist from the front — like my beloved Blackhawks jersey. I love to support the Hawks, but using this to gather the jersey in the back makes me look like a girl in a jersey… instead of a goalie.

And, by far, my favorite item so far are the Boot Straps! Now that it’s boot-wearing season, I am getting a lot of use out of these. You know what a pain it is to stuff your jeans inside a pair of tall boots — especially if they’re not skinny-cut jeans? Just try wrapping and stuffing boot-cut or flare jeans into boots, then standing up and still keeping the legs tight and smooth inside your boots. The Boot Straps are so delightfully simple that I’m surprised we haven’t seen a product like this before. When you’re ready to stuff your pants inside your boots, simply fold the cuff up to the desired height, wrap the Boot Strap around your ankle (it secures with Velcro) and… pull your boots on. That’s it.

These are brilliant! In fact, when I was at the airport last week in the take-off-your-shoes security lane, I slipped my boots off, revealing my folded-up-and-Boot-Strapped legs. Three women, including the TSA agent, asked where I got these straps and said “Those are a great idea.” Mmm hmm.

  2. I was just talking with my son about how to keep his pants down when he was wearing his waders. What a great surprise this would be.

  6. The boot straps sound awesome. I wear these old Roxy ones that fold up or down and lately my jeans have been pulling them from Up to Down. It’s aggravating but these would totally do the trick!

    Also for sweater pilling I use the cheap razors we get for free to shave off the pilling. The razors without moisture or gel stripping, just the plain razor. Gently glide it over problem areas and voilà! Almost new again!

  8. So how does the fashion tape work? Could you use it to keep stretchy skinny jeans from pulling down off your waist? I would like to try the boot straps.

  35. Great fashion secrets to solving all our various problems. I also have a small disc like doodad that hooks on your bra straps in the back. It’s suppose to improve your posture but this summer we were going to a wedding and my sleeve dress was cut to far in in back and my bra straps were showing on the edges so I used my doodad and solved my problem.

  37. Yeah, so I totally need the hip huggers! Would love to win and fill my Christmas stocking with these goodies (my husband would thank you too, since then he wouldn’t have to fill my stocking!)
