As part of this promotion, Good Cook also asked its team of Kitchen Experts to make and share an unconventional fresh fruit dish that was not a “typical fruit salad.” What to make? Inspiration struck when I was browsing Mariano’s ad last week and spotted prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupe slices. I love mixing salty and sweet tastes, but I’m not a huge fan of cantaloupe. I am, however, a fan of prosciutto… and watermelon!

Prosciutto-Wrapped Watermelon Slices Inspired by an appetizer in Mariano’s supermarket ad

Ingredients:
Watermelon
Fresh thinly-sliced prosciutto

Quarter a watermelon, then slice into rectangles about 3″ in length.

Wrap each watermelon slice with one slice of prosciutto. The prosciutto will naturally want to stick to itself, so you won’t need toothpicks to hold them in place.

Stack on a platter and serve! These were excellent. My boys snapped them up before lunchtime, and I had to tell them to save a few for their father, who is also a big fan of good prosciutto. He took one bite and said “These are a perfect mix of sweet and salty!” They also turned watermelon slices into finger foods that don’t drip!

Cut the rest of the watermelon and store it in your new watermelon bowl. Invite other family members to enjoy!

  10. Wow, what a great product. I would love to win this, our fruit salads would finally be not so mushy the next day and we could all enjoy for a few days instead of trying to hurry up and eat through it

    I have two five year old sons comparably small but they go through fruit quickly. This bowl seems like a wonderful addition to our household and eases my preparation of fruit. We hope to win. I have never won any of these things on blogs but I am submitting just the same.

  16. Good Cooks and Kitchen Experts deserve a high five. What a diverse and multi functional bowl. It solves a lot of soggy fruit dilemma and retains freshness. I would love to make Pico de Gallo too! Shredded Cabbage Pico De Gallo. Anything that needs to be drained really.

    I share a lot of dishes with my fellow teachers and staff and I can see many possibilities to feed them more often. AND more purchases for Good Cooks. I participate in making Ronald McDonald House Make a Dinner for their guest and this would ensure freshness for their meals.

  20. This is an ingenious idea! Now that it is summer, my three kids have been eating a lot of watermelon. I can never find a good way to store the leftovers. I have cut it up into chunks and put it in a container but then it sits in the juice and turns mushy. So then I have just kept it whole and cut it as we need to eat, but then it seems to dry out because the only way to store it is to put saran wrap on top. This bowl would help so much!!

  26. I would love to win this bowl! I can think of at least one more use beyond fruit and fruit salad — this bowl would be great for keeping homemade potato salad from becoming watery. I love serving potato salad at summer BBQs but the leftovers get watery and it loses its good flavor. This bowl would fix that problem!

  29. This is the perfect combination of my best two newfound obessions – couponing and juicing!! Juicing uses A LOT of fruit, so this big giant bowl would be great to keep it all in as I prepare it.
