Over the past 24 hours I’ve spotted some great post-Halloween sales and summer clearance bargains around town that I thought I’d share! Last night we stopped at the Algonquin Meijer and found that Halloween costumes, decorations and housewares were already marked 75% off! That’s a pretty nice, quick drop in price the day after Halloween — typically things go 50% right away and take about another week to drop into the better-bargain range.
We picked up some Halloween costumes for next year at good prices — Woody from Toy Story for one of my boys ($6.24, down from $24.99,) a “Graveyard Fairy” for my teenager (not quite sure what it IS, but she liked it! And, at $8.74 down from $34.99, it was hard to complain) and, on my husband’s insistence, Daphne from Scooby Doo for me. (Also $8.74, with its Day-Glo orange wig and pink go-go boots, it was hard to resist… but the real question is, if I go as Daphne, will he be my Fred?)
Meijer also had some good Halloween housewares finds, like a Wilton Jack-o-Lantern cake pan for $1.87 (down from $7.49) and a Wilton chocolate-dipped pretzel kit for $2.49, regularly $9.99. (Trust me, my kids will make and eat candied pretzels in the shapes of skeletons and giant rats anytime of the year…)
Then, this morning, we headed to the Wal-Mart in Huntley to price-match a deal on Toy Story 3 with that great $8 manufacturer coupon Disney’s got out for it (Wal-Mart is closer to home, and I had some Gain dish detergent coupons to use up too!) But as is the nature with Wal-Mart, it’s rarely easy to sneak in for a couple of things and leave. But I’m not complaining. I found some great clearances on Halloween, end-of-summer and movie-themed clothing for the kids too, and if you’ve taken my Super-Couponing 2 workshop, you know exactly the kinds of things to look for bargains on around this time of year.
First, the Halloween gear…
My skull-loving teen will appreciate these purple spiders-and-skulls pajama pants (on clearance for $3) and the two skull-themed baby tees (also clearance priced at $2.50.)
Then, a $3 clearance rack of shirts, shorts, and swim trunks caught my eye…
But any time you see a clearance rack, it’s always a good idea to double-check prices at the price scanner…
Everything rang up at $2!
My boys will love these Batman and Superman swim trunks, and bargain-priced shorts are always welcome too. And, here’s a weird little clearance we found too — these $2 black skull-and-guitars shirts came with a set of headphones attached to the hanger. I think the headphones alone would have cost more than that!
Then, another clearance rack with a $5 sign held bunches of Toy Story 3 t-shirts and some Star Wars Clone Wars pajama sets too. (Again, if you’ve taken Super-2, you know that when summer features leave the theaters (or in the case of Clone Wars, the airwaves…) a few months later, any clothing themed to them is reduced a great deal.)
It’s funny, even with the huge push for Toy Story 3’s DVD release this week, and full-priced Toy Story 3 clothing prominently displayed at the front of the store… on the clearance rack in the back were all the Toy Story 3 shirts that came out this summer during the theatrical run of the same movie.
And here again it was worth scanning to double-check prices, because that $5 rack was really ringing up… $3.
So, a few more (fun!) shirts for the Toy Story lovers in the house went into my cart, as well as these Clone Wars pajamas that, at $3, were also difficult to say no to… especially when my 3-year-old clutched them, smiling and saying “pleeeeeaaase?” :)
What post-Halloween and post-summer clearances have you spotted lately? :)

I consistently shop the WalMart at Rand/Central as it is conveniently on the way home. They will NOT take IPs over $5!! I’ve tried multiple times with my Disney coupons, thinking different cashier, different rules, no-go. I’ve stopped shopping any Disney movies there, and only buy from Target. No issues with my $8 coupon for the blu-ray box today at Target ($24.99-ish price), didn’t even think about shopping at a Wal-Mart for the movie.

I used the coupon at Wal-Mart today, no problems. They had Toy Story 3 Blue Ray pack for $24.98 in the ad. Good deal.

had some of their Halloween on clearance today. 18 boxes per package of Scooby Doo crayons, tatoo boxes, and markers/paper were .10 each. Pumpking carving tools were .05, napkins were .25, and gel cling decorations were .25. And they said all the pumpkins left outside were free. :)

This morning the customer service manager at the Montgomery Wal Mart refused my Toy Story 3 coupon because “if it beeps, we don’t take it”. I guess I’ll take my business elsewhere.

My target has all Halloween candy only 30% off, I just came back from there and can’t believe it. I actually scanned some bags thinking they forgot to change the signs since Halloween was 4 days ago. What gives? Aren’t they all supposed to have the same markdowns?

There was very little in the way of costumes or decorations left at the Bolingbrook Meijer at Boughton and I-355. They had a few infant costumes ($1.99), small dog costumes ($.79 and under) , infant socks ($.49 ?), black nail polish ($.24), a handful of adult costumes (some missing pieces for around $3.49).
I didn’t look at the candy.

Since you posted about the great clothing deals you got at Walmart for your boys, I went to my Walmart in Geneva. I bought P.J.’s, swim trunks and outfits for my 5 year old. All of them were Toy Story 3 or Iron Man. My son loved them! They also were ringing up $2 less than the rack they were on.
My husband then found Disney T-shirts (Handy Manny, Mickey Mouse, Cars and Toy Story 3) for $1 for our 3 year old!!
Thank you again for all your work and wonderful tips!!

The Walmart in Shorewood had a lot of costumes left. I bought 4 fairy princess style (non halloween) for my grandaugter along with accessories for “dress up” to make a cute dress up trunk for Christmas. Then went to Target and found a Fairy costume for $1.75. The Dollar Spot had a mini tiara comb for a buck and sparkly handbag!!

Bubbles 6 packs are 0.25 on clearance at Target. These would be good to use as a candy alternative for next year’s Trick or Treaters, fillers for party favor bags, or prize box items for teachers. The colors of the bubble containters are purple, green, orange and black. There were a ton left over at the one on North Ave in Villa Park.

Woodridge Target still had costumes left. There were plenty of pet costumes, infant costumes and some boy costumes (Star Wars, etc.)

I found MilkMaid caramels for $.57, Reese’s peanut butter pumpkins for $.18, Kids Play 2lb bag for $1.49 and Kids Pik 2 lb bag for $1.74. There were other items, no costumes.
Some other items still 50% off.
