“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

– Buy One Get One Free 3lb. baby red or gold potatoes (final price $2.99)
– $1 off 4 Wolf Chili (final price $1 per can.) Only a good deal if you have four .40 coupons from the 10/2 SS, which will drop these to .60 per can, post-coupon-stack.
Grande Tortilla Chips (10oz.) are on sale for $2. Use the $1 coupon from 9/11 SS1 and pay $1!
TombStone Pizzas are on sale for $2.50 each. Buy two and use this $1-off-2 printable. You’ll pay $4 for two, or $2 each!
You will also receive a bonus Game Ticket for buying Tombstone this week.

Sun-Bird Asian Seasonings (.75-1.25oz., stir-fry, chop suey, etc.) are on sale for .85. Buy two and use this .50 printable. You’ll pay $1.20 for two, or .60 each.
Jewel is running a “Buy 10 for $10, get the 11th FREE” sale (like Meijer often does!) However, nothing here really stands out as a good deal at all to me. I wish there was more to write about with this one.
“Buy 5, Save $5” Instant-Savings Sale! Buy any 5 of the following cheeses and save $5 instantly! Prices shown are after $5 instant savings. You must buy 5 to receive these prices. Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Jewel meat deals:
- Split chicken breasts or thighs are .99/lb.
- Chicken drumsticks are $1.29/lb.
- 16oz. Perdue ground chicken or turkey burger patties are $3.99, Buy One Get One Free – that’s about $2/lb.
Jewel seafood deals:
- 32oz. bags of Ocean Market Tilapia or breaded Tilapia are $6.99 – that’s less than $3.50/lb.
- 4oz. single portions of salmon, tilapia, and other varieties of fish are $1 each – that’s $4/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- 2lb. bags of Farm Stand carrots are $1.29 – that’s about .65/lb!
- Hard shell squash is .99/lb.
- Gala apples are $1.29/lb. ($1.79 for organic)
- Braeburn or Fuji apples are $1.79/lb.
- Organic cauliflower or broccoli is $1.99/lb.
(Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 per pound is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
UPDATE: With beef prices (commodities) slated to rise, some reader have emailed to ask if I would also blog the $2.49 or less meat deals. I will now be including meat deals up to $2.49/lb. in weekly writeups.
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s is also offering Deal Match, where you can load price-matching offers from Jewel and Target to your Fresh Values Card. Try it at www.Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:

You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?

Safeway Select 1.5qt. Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt is involved in an instant-savings deal. Buy it at $3.49 and get a FREE Safeway Select Super Premium Ice Cream or Sorbet pint. This offer is limit 2 per transaction.
Check your Just For U, as I had an ecoupon for $1.98 1.5qt. Safeway Select ice creams, limit 3, through 12/18/11. $1.98 for the ice cream AND the free sorbet wasn’t bad at all :)
Again, though, if you have this and buy 3, note that you will only get TWO free pints per the terms of this offer. So I bought two. :)
Dominick’s is running a “Buy 2, Save $6” sale on batteries, various cleaning and paper products. Honestly, nothing great is jumping out at me here…

If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Here are your Hilander deals… View weekly ad
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford has been having a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The Scnhucks ad cycle is a WEDNESDAY to TUESDAY ad, which means these deals will now end on Tuesdays of the current week. These deals end TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1st.
IF YOU ARE A HILANDER SHOPPER, PLEASE READ. Email feedback regarding Hilander’s new ownership by Schnucks has been less than positive. And, with the shift in days on their flyer, I’m honestly wondering if it is worth blogging these deals any more. If you are a ROCKFORD area Hilander shopper and wish to see these writeups continue, please chime in under this writeup in the comments. If the deals aren’t benefitting many people, I will likely adjust the stores that I cover accordingly too. Let me know. :)

DEAL IDEAS:
If you have ANY $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupons to use up, definitely use them now or lose them. With three $8-off-2 coupons, you could buy four clean foundations or pressed powders ($7.99 for the first one, $3.99 for the second.) Add two Cheekers blushes ($4.99 and $2.49.) Before coupons, you’d be at $31.44. After coupons, pay $7.44 and get a $10 CVS gift card. ALL FREE and a moneymaker!
******************
Rachel over at Mashup Mom posted one heck of a killer Cover Girl / Olay deal too which involves both Olay Regenerist and Cover Girl Lip Perfection lipsticks, which are free with coupon when you buy Regenerist moisturizer.
Here’s how it goes. And first, scan your CVS card at the coupon center in the store for a $5-off-20 coupon for “facial skincare.” You’ll need it! AND, make sure your CVS card is registered for their free CVS Beauty Club, which gives you $5 back in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty.
Now…
Buy two Regenerist moisturizer products at $20.99 each ($41.98)
Buy two Cover Girl Lip Perfection lipsticks ($7.99 and $3.99)
Buy $6.04 more Cover Girl of your choice to bring you over the $60 mark, pre-coupon. Two Cheekers blushes work well here at $4.99 and $2.99 each.
Pre-coupon total: $61.94
Use one $10-off-2 Regenerist moisturizers coupon from 9/25 RP
Use TWO “Buy Regenerist Get FREE Lip Perfection” coupons from 10/30 PG. The coupon is only good to $7.50, so you will get $7.50 credit for one lipstick and $3.99 for the other.)
Use one $8-off-2 coupon from 10/2 PG
Use $5-off-$20 Facial Skincare coupon from the CVS coupon printer
Post-coupon total: $27.45
Pay $27.45 and get TWO $10 CVS gift cards back, plus $5 in ECBs from the Beauty Club. That’s $2.45 for ALL of that… already a steal!
Now, if you’re a rebater, send your receipt in for this $10 Olay rebate… and everything’s FREE and a moneymaker!
If you have any email coupons from CVS, use them here too. I had a $5-off-$30 that I used here too. I paid $22.45 and got $25 back – ALL FREE and I can still do the rebate!
UPDATE: Reader ChiTownTeach posted a great alternative scenario here too if you DO NOT have the $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupon. Instead of buying the Cheekers, buy two Pantene products ($6.98.) Use the $3-off-2 Pantene coupon from 9/25 RP. The rest of the deal will be the same.
NOTE ON THE LIPSTICK COUPON: This lipstick coupon would not scan no matter what the cashier did at my CVS. It was also the first coupon that she scanned, as she took my coupon stack and started working from the back. So then the questions began… “Did you buy moisturizer?” (We went to the shelf and noted that none of the Olay products say “moisturizer,” even though night creams and hydration creams moisturize. She said that anything labeled “Moisturize” on the package (silver bar along the side) is considered a moisturizer and manually keyed them in. Just an FYI.)
And again… do this deal THROUGH 10/31 ONLY! Remember too that Beauty Club $5 ECBs usually print on your next trip to CVS too, so don’t sweat it if it doesn’t show up on your receipt during this trip. Happy shopping!
************
Remember that these deals run all week, and you don’t have to buy all of the items in the same shopping trip. Your CVS card will keep track for you and print the $10 gift card voucher when you hit $30.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
12oz. Gold Emblem Honey Bears are $2.50
Dean’s Orange Juice half-gallons are $1.99
Dozen cartons of Eggs are $1.69
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Hilander (Schnucks) | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Deals continuing from previous weeks
HALLOWEEN IS THE LAST DAY: Did you see the nice $8-off-2 Cover Girl coupon in the 10/2 PG? You can score some free makeup at Walmart this week with it! Single-color Cover Girl Cheekers blushes and Enhancers eye shadows are $3.99 at most stores. Buy two… and with your coupon, pay NOTHING. They’re FREE!
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

For the Kraft cheese deal at Jewel if anyone has the coupon books “Kraft Food and Family” with the Neely’s on the cover there is a q for .55 cents off the Kraft singles.
For the Ricola at Wags the 9/11 SS has a coupon for $1.50 off one Ricola so with both coupons this will be a moneymaker.

Is there a new Walgreens policy. I went to my local Walgreens in Kenosha WI to do the $20RR for the P&G. Bought 2 Tide stain release, 2 Bounce dryer bars, 1 cascade, and 1 Mr Clean eraser pack. Also 4 bags of M&M’s for th3 $5RR and 1 Nivea bodywash for $2RR and also 4 other items that weren’t on sale. I used 4 coupons for the P&G, 1 coupon for the Nivea and no coupons for the M&M’s and 2 $4.50RR’s from last week, so I did not exceed the number of coupons I was allowed. No RR’s printed. When I questioned the cashier, he said the new policy is no RR’s for anything that a manufactured coupon was used for. I asked for the store manager and was told the same thing. I immediately asked to return everything that was supposed to have a RR. The store manager then did go over my receipt and print me the RR’s. Has anyone else had this situation or was it just this store? Because if this is the case, what is the point to shop Walgreens, I can get most of this stuff at Wal-Mart or Woodmans at regular price for Walgreens sale price.

Target $5 denim Q is gone already! :(
Also, at Dom, Knorr Roasters are on sale for $1.79, but NOT tagged as part of the sale. You can find them on top of those low freezers at the back. I found $2 off Roasters or Stock when you buy meat Qs right next to them.
I picked up 3 small packages of meat on clearance 50% off and got 3 packages of Knorr stock FREE ( I also bought 2 more items as part of the Buy 4, save $4 deal and the discount came off everything, so it is BUY 4 OR MORE, which is good so you dont have to buy in multiples of 4).
Pom Lite is on sale at Jewel for $2, use $1 from inserts or Spotlight.
Was anybody able to find Seattle Best coffee that was on $5 special last Friday at Dom? Two stores near me didn’t have ANY!

When I signed up for the Beauty Club, I got a 10% of entire purchase Q emailed to me. I was thinking of doing the MashupMom deal as written, but wanted to know if I could also include this coupon as well.

I am a hilander shopper and do appreciate that you post deals for them, so please keep it up! Thank you!

The coupon that you posted is for Dixie Crystals Sugar, however the sugar that is on sale at Jewel for $2.99 is Crystal Sugar. These are different companies and the coupon is not valid in IL.

Prego Pasta Sauce is cheaper at Jewel than at Meijer this week. It is on the front page of the ad under the Barilla Pasta. It is $1.25. Buy 3 and used the $1/3 coupon and pay approximately 92 cents for each.

I was so sad to not be able to work the Olay deal at CVS today. I went to 2 different stores and they were all out of the items that qualify for the spend $30 get/$10 gift card. Bummer!

Hi there! This is my first time on a coupon site and today was my first time super couponing! I went to Walgreens and got 3 Dawn Dish soaps for .49 each and 3 packs of gum for .36 each. I also used the BOGO Allspice Body wash coupons from PG 10/30 there. I had 2. They were on sale buy one get one half off and priced at 4.99 each. I ended up with 4 bottles of it for 1.24 each! My trip there should have cost me 32.56 and i got the price down to 9.88!! I was so excited! Jill, I’m coming with 2 friends to your class in November in Woodstock and i can’t wait to learn more!!

Tombstone pizzas are 4/$10 at Meijer, not $2 each. Unless I’m missing something else, but our sale flyer states 4/$10 just like the Jewel deal. However, there is a new mPerks $2 off $2 or more that I just got today, so if I pair that with 2 of the manu coupons, I can still end up getting the Tombstones fo $1.50 each. Unless of course there’s a better deal that I’m missing (hoping, I like $1 pizzas much better! LOL)

I will agree that there are not alot of sales going on at the Rockford area Hilander/Schnucks.
The deal you posted for Paul Newman’s spaghetti sauce wasn’t even on the shelf! I mean it wasn’t even there. I think it’s false advertising. I went there yesterday and there was every spaghetti sauce but Paul Newman’s(no one wiped the shelves clean either).
I am at a loss. I don’t know where to shop anymore. I have tons of coupons and read your website all the time. There are no good stores to shop at in the Rockford area anymore. Woodman’s doesn’t have a flyer and who has the time to walk through the store a day before you go shopping? Logli’s prices are a little expensive. Then you have Wal-Mart and Target and as far as food prices go I just don’t feel you get as good of a deal. There is really no other place to shop.
Before Hilander was bought out by Schnucks, that was the best place to shop!
Please, please, please do not stop posting deals for us out here in Rockford. Or better yet, can you find a better store like Woodmans to write about?
Does anyone have any suggestions? Where are all the other Rockford people shopping and getting their deals at?
You are so great at this stuff and you have taught me so much!
Patty

Most of the coupons in the new Jewel coupon booklet state “limit one per transaction”. Does anyone know if that is one of each kind of coupon or one coupon from the whole booklet per transaction? For example, I understand that I couldn’t use two B1G1 carrot coupons, but could I use a B1G1 carrot coupon and a pineapple coupon in the same transaction? Thanks for all you do!

Did any not get $2 RR on 2 – Ricola’s at Walgreens. Checker said could no, it was last week. I couldn’t find it advertised in the paper.
I just wanted to check. thanks in advance!

Menard’s has soup mixes on sale for $2.00 a package. Each package requires 8 cups of water and cooks for about 15 minutes. They are normally $2.50, so not super savings, but they are some off brand that doesn’t offer coupons, that I can find.
These soups are really tasty. I add other things to them, like beans to the chili and broccoli to the cheddar broccoli soup, but if you are looking for a very inexpensive meal, these soups fit the bill. $2.00 for the soup, $.89 for the frozen broccoli and you can feed 4-8 for less than $3.00.
Just thought I would share. Thanks, Jill, for being so awesome!

Does anyone know anywhere that has even a decent deal on Electrosol tabs? I’m down to 3, thought I had a spare but don’t so if anyone can hook me up with a decent deal, I’d appreciate it. The thought of buying full price is making me shake…LOL

I’m so impressed with these GC deals at CVS right now – I’ve been able to get 4 GCs this week! I did the Olay/CG deal first – everything worked for me except my store didn’t have the regular Olay Regenerist moisturizer so I got 2 Night instead – I paid about $18 OOP and got 2 cards then (one CVS and one B&N – Christmas present!). Did the CG portion of the deal again to use up my last $8/2 coupon – another CVS card. I used that card plus Qs yesterday to get Good Nites and a few other things – got another GC and I think I was really at only about $27 out of the $30? So, I’ll probably go back either tonight or Friday with that GC and my $10 EB from Beauty Club to earn one more GC – thinking Charmin for that trip. :)
Is there a delay on the Beauty Club EB for anyone else? Mine don’t print out the day I spend the last $$ of the $50 – it seems to be one or two days and it either prints at the machine, the register or I see it in my online account.
Also, if I could only find a CVS with the free Illy coffees in stock still!!!

CVS has Aveeno lotion 8oz and 12oz 2/$13. These are also part of the buy 2 Aveeno moisturizing lotions/creams get $7 ECB’s. The 10/30 SS has a $3/2 coupon. Buy 2 pay $10 and get $7 ECB’s!! Get 2 Aveeno reg size lotions for $1.50 each! Have the ad handy just in case tho. I asked the cashier before the transaction and he said it was allowed but manually had to enter to print out the ECB’s.

I just scored an awesome deal at Meijer!!! I have a 170lb Saint Bernard – so we go through a lot of dog food. Here’s what I found.
Meijer has the Purina ONE beyOnd dry dog food on sale for $5.99.
There were coupons in the paper a few weeks ago for $4.00 off any size.
At Meijer if you buy $40.00 worth of Purina you get a coupon good for $10.00 off your next Meijer shopping trip.
(7)Purina One beyOnd = $5.99 x 7 = $41.93
(7) Coupons for $4.00 off each bag = $4.00 x 7 = -$28.00
New total = $13.93 for 7 bags of dog food. Then you get the $10 off next purchase coupon, so technically it is like getting the dog food for $3.93 or $0.56 a bag!!!
Even if you don’t have multiples of the coupons, even getting the bag for $1.99 after using one coupon would be a good deal.

Well, I needed moisturizer and began my search. I decided to try L’Oreal Youth Code products this time around. I found they have a $10 rebate going right now when you buy two full-size Youth Code products. I also had two $2/1 Youth Code product coupons. I signed up for the CVS Beauty Club and received the 10% off coupon. Then when I got to the store I scanned my CVS card at the magic machine and got the $5-off-$20 coupon for facial skin care. I picked up the serum intense and the day lotion. Both were priced $24.99 (GULP!) But with the other coupons and the rebate I will wind up getting BOTH PRODUCTS for just a few cents more than ONE PRODUCT!
$24.99 X 2 = $49.98
$49.98 – $4 (2-$2Q 10/23RP)= $45.98
$45.98 – $5 CVS Q = $40.98
$40.98 – 10% CVS Q ($5.20) = $35.78
AND I will be dropping my $10 REBATE form in the mail tomorrow AM! Two full-size moisturizing products for $25.78!! I am a very happy girl!
I also got four bottles of Tide (they didn’t have any powder Tide) for $3.94 each after coupons ($15.76).
And ONE half-gallon of TruMoo as that was all they had at that location. They also were limiting you to two half-gallons.
Then I went to Walgreens. As usual, it was hit and miss. Tried to get Dawn dishwashing liquid but that was a no go. BUT they did have the Ricola Dual Action Cough Drops and I had TWO BOGOF coupons. Four bags of cough drops for FREE!!
I should have used the Dawn coupons at CVS because their Dawn was also on sale for 99 cents just like Walgreen’s. Only difference? CVS actually HAS Dawn in stock and on the shelf!!

Meijers doesn’t take the Wags RR – I thought they used to! And I could not find any trial sized Carmex hand lotion – checked at three Wags, a Meijers and a Jewel. Do they really exist??

Heads up if you are trying to use your Coke Rewards Q’s at Jewel:
Yesterday I tried to use my 2 coke reward Q’s for free 12 packs with the BOGO 12 pk deal and was told they would not accept ANY 12 pk free Q’s as they were told there are some counterfeit ones going around. The CS manager said she would have to “spend some time going through her book to see if she could determine which ones were fake” but since she didn’t have time, and the Coke rep had already left, I was not allowed to use them. Embarrassing to say the least when you are made to feel like a criminal for trying to use your Coke rewards.
