To ignite the night I would have supper all ready and there would be a napkin folded on his plate with a hand made coupon inside for a free back rub…. That always seems to heat things up.
tgifrida says
To ignite the night at home, enjoy a P.F. Chang’s Home Menu meal with a glass of wine in a nice warm bubble bath with the significant other. It’ll definitely create an exciting night at home, when a trip to the restaurant is not possible.
wireman1979 says
First arrange an overnight for the children. Then Ignite the Night by starting out with Chinese Lanterns and a little sake. Music must be Classic Motown; preferably from the 1960’s. Then sit on the living room floor at the coffee table and enjoy a lovely Asian meal with plum wine. Take turns feeding each other with chopsticks and then enjoy the rest of the meal with a standard knife and fork! A little dancing to the Four Tops or the Temptations and some more plum wine. Time for the Chinese New Year!!
kaschilling says
To Ignite the night, make sure to plan an evening WITHOUT children. In our house, set up a nice dinner without young children is all it takes! PF Chang has some great options for dinner for 2
Jovandi21 says
I would have a opened bottle of cab and the fire pit going for my date.
Dcraftsalot says
For a perfect night, I would arrange to have the house to our ourselves. After dinner is all fixed and ready to eat, it would be fun to do something different than eat at the table. Put the delicious dinner in a gaint martini glass, get comfy on the couch together, dimmed lights and each have chopsticks and enjoy feeding each other and enjoy the cozy conversation and the rest of the evening!!
gothealth2 says
I used to live near Chinatown and I once took a few ‘traditional’ dance classes. I am pretty sure it was Mandarin music that was played. I bought a few traditional dresses from Chinatown also….so I would fish out one of those dresses, download some pretty Mandarin music, and do a cute little dance before dinner. I am sure my husband would love it!!! Maybe I would dance the food to the table and do a little bow for him before I sat down to enjoy dinner with him.
hobbitgirl says
A house lit up with nothing but candles, a fire in the fire place, and dinner on the floor next to the fire place. A nice bottle of cabernet.
End the night with mini chocolate lava cakes, in the jacuzzi surrounded by Tiki Torches.
pezpup says
Nice bottle of wine and lots of candles.
Bernard2003 says
For Us, Igniting the night takes sending our kid to Nana’s, creating a ROARING fire in the fireplace, and I cook for my husband (this is big, because he cooks for a living! it’s nice for him not to cook). My husband loves a good food/beer or food/wine pairing, so that applies here too. His favorite might be the General Chang’s Chicken (or beef if they ever made that version). Add in some good music and a great movie and there ya go! That’s more or less how we chose to spend our last Wedding Anniversary. Because our “baby”isnearly three, we still have to plan ahead to get some alone time together, so a sitter or going to Nana’s house is a MUST for this!
If we are igniting the night with friends, it usually involves home brewed beers and some very yummy grilling with outside music! Last time we did this, it turned into almost a block party, we ran out of chairs! My hubby takes the lead on these nights, including stuff like roasted salsa veggies and chicken wings. Because of how my husband grills veggies (on a grill pan on the grill), the shanghi beef or the broccoli beef would fit right into the party.
rosie30 says
I would take some big floor pillows and set them up with some of P.F.Chang’s dinner for two,of course my signaficant other is there. Also set up a little coffee table for candles, and wine….so after a hot meal things can get hotter without any effort at all.
melanie1 says
To “Ignite the Night” we first must get a babysitter…then, spread out a blanket in our basement, put on a good movie, dim the lights, enjoy good beer and PF Changs and cuddle up for a wonderful night in. Awwww, sounds wonderful!
bluedemon20 says
Our family friendly night would begin with a nice campfire as the sun is setting…we’d sit outside and eat our PF Chang’s dinners not worrying about spilling on the floor or making a mess. Not making a mess is one way mom doesn’t get ignited!!
After roasting marshmellows, we go in and put the kids to bed. Then the hubby and I might go outside and have a few drinks and get “lit up” ourselves. LMAO! The end.
dmarin57 says
Candles and wine! I’d set the table very pretty like a restaurant.
MommaB2004 says
For us, igniting the night is having our kids be excited about dinner. We have bought chopsticks and even soup spoons because P.F. Chang’s is our favorite restaurant. With the Meals for 2, we are able to to give our kids a similar experience to the restaurant without having to drive to the restaurant since it is a bit of a drive for us. We even have them use their cups that they received at the restaurant as well.
patti says
Ignite the night! Drop the kids off at Grandmas!
nmfoster says
For us to ignite the night, the kids would be put in bed early (it’s a good thing they can’t tell time yet), I’d put on a really pretty dress (strapless, perhaps) and lay out nice clothes for my hubby to wear. I’d have the table set with candles. And for dessert, we would have chocolate covered strawberries, cause what is sexier than chocolate covered strawberries?
J.R. says
Another vote to send the kids on a sleepover!
Wine, candles, and the fireplace sound good too, once the kids are gone.
blang says
I would like the kids to fix, serve and cleanup the dinner without arguing.
Hamptons Mom says
Hanging lanterns from the shepherds hooks around the porch – hopfully a gentle breeze and some PF Changs!
scrapbooktina says
Would love a free meal for PF Changs dinner for 2

To “Ignite The Night” I’d get it started by a few days prior leaving my significant other a special on the counter saying, Place-Living Room
Time-dusk
You and Me
For a Romantic dinner for two!
The kids will be elsewhere for the night…Then leave a few more notes (car,on his pillow) leading up to that night. You’ll have a wonderful PF Chang’s dinner that will be easy to create, and with all the time saved, more quality time for you and your mate.
Nyle says
Jill, we will begin our meal with prayer asking God for His blessing on our food and on the day of all our friends and family. This includes you, of course. Thanks for all you do!
jmdetz says
I would remind my husband during dinner that I have nothing on underneath my clothes :)
bigmoney says
Hmm. Considering I misread “home meals” as “hotel meals”, my thoughts went to using the in-room microwave and not leaving the bedroom!
jtwark says
i would ignite the night with a kiss
erin22 says
Dinner alfresco under the gazebo with candles and soft lighting. A little wine to accompany a dinner favorite. Sounds like a plan:)
cpnsvrmom says
I would send my hubby a special invite in advance(that way we can arrange sending the kids to grandma’s for the night). That evening we would have a bonfire going outside on our patio and have a cushy blanket laid out near it and big pillows to rest on. Turn on some tiki lights and have them surround the area we would be in to make it seem like our own little getaway spot from everything else. Music lightly playing in the background with a special playlist created just for that night of songs that we both love and have dedicated to each other over the years! There would be a bucket of ice with wine chilling in it and a pair of wine glasses sitting next to it. Of course the wine glasses would have some type of YUMMY fruit inside them like rasperries to give that extra special touch. Feeding each other small bites and being able to eat without rushing or taking anyone to go potty will be very nice. After we are done eating we can lay out on our blanket and rest on the pillows cuddling and talking and watching the stars in the sky and the flames dancing around us.
barmar says
We would ship the kids to the neighbors for a sleep over. I would set the out side table nicely and ignite the teekee lights. We would enjoy a nice bottle of wine, in the peace and quiet.
Rocko105 says
Considering we are trying for our 3rd child, we would enjoy a great dinner and maybe some romantic conversation….maybe that will give us some luck!! LOL!
leorafeinberg says
I would serve up this meal is sheer lingerie with our favorite bottle of Polka Dot Reisling…maybe chase it with strawberries in chocolate fondue and finish off with a pampered Swedish Massage–I got KY Warming massage oil for free with my coupons and we could put it to good use!
jomyke says
Dinner by candle and moonlight, out under the stars!
cpanzer18 says
I would pair these with some yummy Soshu Wine, Plum Wine, or some warm Sake. Yummmm.
mlkc4tips says
I would first give my husband a formal invitation, have my 13 year old daughter find a friend to stay with and put the dogs in their room a little early…no interruptions! I would then spend extra time on myself in order to feel my best and light candles to set the mood. I would make a concious effort to not talk about our oldest daughters wedding plans or the bills that our piling up due to the said upcoming wedding. I would serve him the dinner in a relaxing loving environment and would follow that up with a massage. I think that this would be the most perfect of Father Days for my very special husband who has been a fantastic husband and dad for over 23 years.
Hodge325 says
Since we don’t drink alcohol, I would substitute a bottle of sparkling grape juice. Some music, candles & a whole lotta quiet time with no kids. Ahh! Sounds like we might just need to do that regardless!
4boyshunting89 says
Hi Jill! What a great gift…to win dinner with my hubby for my birthday (or his: it’s the 26th!)With 4 boys (hence my screen name), time alone is priceless. Just being able to sit together without having to cut someone else’s food, or get more to drink, or break up a fight will be excitement enough for us. After a great meal, we will go to the couch, queue up one of our many shows we are behind on, turn down the lights….and fall asleep before the first commercial break!
save4ever says
Evening with candles and soft music and a P. F. Chang dinner??? – that’s all it would take!! With 3 kids it doesn’t take much except a quiet evening together.
hkhan says
I think this is the perfect season for a nice bonfire outside and some blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy this dinner! You can even add some outdoor lanterns and bring your playlist outside. Don’t forget the mosquito repellent!
rockandrollallnite says
Her night with hubby would include Kosher Coca Cola because she doesn’t drink…. rockin Kiss music and maybe some nice chopsticks and fancy Asian dinnerware! And how about a nice dessert?
susanericksoncm says
I would find sleepovers for my three boys and serve dinner by candlelight out on the patio. Delicious and relaxing!
stealfinder says
I’ like to try these.
izzysmom says
My way to “Ingnite the Night” would be very simple – but perfect. It would consist of my husband and I being able to have a quiet meal without having to rush through dinner or eating separately. We have an infant and for some reason our breakfast, lunch and dinner time is always her “witching hour.” We haven’t gone out to dinner in a while, but a good quiet meal at home with our baby at the sitter would be just as wonderful. Just one night is all I need! :-)
driendeau says
With the weather changing…how about taking the yummy PF Chang’s meal out onto the deck or patio? The yummy, spicy varieties with a cool wine and a cool breeze…perfect!
DiamondCass says
As much as I love candles, I will forever be ridiculed for a time when I was young… I lit candles for a romantic dinner with my now-hubby, and burned a hole in the carpet. OOPS!
But my hubby does love chinese food so we would definitely get a babysitter for the kids (my 3yo’s been asking for a sleepover anyway!) put on a playlist with our wedding song, some songs from when we first started dating, and the song my hubby wrote/recorded for me. I work at a brewery so a growler of 1AM ale would go nicely with this… Then maybe end the night with a romantic comedy as we love to laugh together. And lastly…. enjoy a night alone with no kids ;) Let the fun begin!
jmhiestand says
I would love to try these … I’ve wanted to go to that restaurant but have not yet! It would be a good way to try their food!!

zesty & spicy just for two”
after spending the last week sleeping at the hospital with my son, the last thing I want to do is cook. being able to just relax and enjoy a wonderful, flavorful and delicious meal with hubby in the patio under a beautiful breeze weather is what the Doctor called for.

My best friend’s husband died a year ago and what a wonderful to get her to come join us for dinner with PF Chang’s. She needs this lifter upper.
ChiTownTeach says
Ignite the night? Let’s ignite the summer! Let’s see…how about Sting in the background (of course), and a kitchen table full of last minute papers to grade, average those grades, and get them into the computer. (The honey helps…I’m lucky). The quicker we grade and eat, the quicker we light those fireworks (wink, wink). :)
iluvtosave says
This would be perfect for an evening under the stars on our deck surrounded by tiki torches and tropical music playing on the stereo.
pigletmama says
It’s be fun to surprise my husband by having a night out without the kids! I think the night would be “ignited” even further as we (try to) feed each other with chopsticks. Somehow, it just seems romantic…and fun!
lmt425 says
You can ‘ignite your night’ by still dressing up for each other as if you were going out, without all the extra costs.
Cheapolak says
… let them join in the fun for a belated Chinese New Year celebration!
-Look up each family member’s Chinese horoscope and have the kids print out and color or draw pictures of the animals for placemats or decorations.
-Have the kids make Chinese paper fans or fold cloth napkins into fans for each place setting.
-Everyone wear red (the traditional color for “good luck”) and drape lamps with sheer red fabric or tissue paper
-Observe the Chinese tradition of honoring the elders– have the kids serve the parents dinner!
oliverhog says
I would like to ignite the night for Luz Carmen Gentry. She sounds like she really needs it. I had cancer when I was in college and then had a recurrence a few years later. I saw what my parents went through constantly worrying about me. I know what stress does to a person and a family. I would like to ignite the night for mizhelper, also, because she’s so concerned about her friend who lost her husband, something I can’t even imagine. During these really difficult financial times for so many people, it’s nice that people still think of others. P.F. Chang’s meals are absolutely delicious and somewhat pricey, so whoever ends up with these coupons, enjoy. Thanks, Jill.
denisec says
Sparklers, on the deck, not under a smoke detector, and umbrellas in my drinks.
curly says
Hot night, hot, spicy food, cool off in the sprinkler and let the fun begin!
rchiluk says
My husband and I like to go out for dinner on the weekends, but by the end of the week we can get tired and we don’t always get out. Instead of feeling like we have to go out and spend the money at a restaurant, my husband could surprise me with dinner and have enough time to spare for setting the same restaurant mood at home. He could dress up the night with a candle lit table, but keep it casual by turning on our favorite tv program instead of a movie! I think it would be great to enjoy a restaurant quality meal in seconds and for a fraction of the price all without leaving our home.
youknowme2 says
Finally no rain! On the patio with the firepit! That would be a nice dinner.
theresa1740 says
would love a home meal just for the two of us. Just read the rules. Quiet time for just us to enjoy a meal and maybe candles and dim lights.
iceland96 says
Between my full time career and my husbands job and taking care of our son and long commutes too and from the city this would work perfect for us when we both get home and there is no time to cook a decent meal. Bon Appetit!!!
Jengeldahl says
Twins are nice, but it’s really hard to find time for adult conversation. We have twins who will be four and a 19 month old! A quiet evening alone?? What is that? I have been wanting a “night away.” PF changs at home would a great compromise! My hubby and I need to spice things up! Yum! Yum! Here’s the plan…kids go to bed at 7:30, light jazz on sirius radio(probably will end up being the iPod with heavy metal crap), a quiet dinner of spicy of pf changs and then a relaxing dip in our hot tub that we never seem to have time to use! What a perfect date at home!

My husband cooks for me and the kids 90% of the time. I would love to have a nice dinner at home with him one evening when the kids are all in bed. I know that would be such a wonderful surprise for him. And a very deserving one.

Watching re-runs of Bruce Lee and fine wine with our PF Changs dinner! Who could ask for more??!!!!
kballad1007 says
After the kids are in bed I put on a strappy dress with a flowing skirt, fabulous heels and perfume. My husband and I push back the furniture and make the living room a swinging dance hall with sexy classics like Sway and Moondance. For a break we mix cocktails and listen to the music before sitting down to a candlelit dinner complete with wine and a special resturant style dinner with P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Meals for Two!
stringofpearls says
A dip in the pool (or lake…) together of course! Then mealtime…!
amylgomez says
I would use paper lanterns for lighting and put out chopsticks and fortune cookies to complete the scene.
optionsjen says
As soon as the dinner is ready, there is a clap of thunder, and the power goes out. All screen-based distractions are unavailable. There are storms. The kids are asleep, and we’ve got candles lit. A cozy dinner for two – we feed each other bites and take our time enjoy the meal and each others undivided attention.
jennawojciechowski says
Ignite the night and make it a family fun night! Think citronella candles on the deck….and perhaps a small bonfire (use your firepit if you’ve got one). Get the kids involved and decorate your back patio/kitchen table in fun summer colors. As for the menu? Sparkly bubbly drinks (think Archer Farms’ carbonated beverages at Target), PF Changs, and smores as a dessert. You’ll ignite the night as a family!
Yamaha Girl says
Taking some sheets and draping them over our kids swing set to make a cozy fort for two, hanging some lanterns around, listening to all the critters in the night, feeling a light breeze blow, grabbing a bottle of wine and eating some P.F. Chang’s. What could be more prefect!
rodeorobin says
My husband and I describe our live as crazy but fun because we are raising almost four year old twin boys. We love all sorts of Asian food and are always surprised what kind of meat, veggie & spice creations that are combined.
Our theme for this dinner would be to ask each other “what are 5 crazy but fun things do you want to do in this lifetime?”
suzi1202 says

I envision sitting on the floor with candles and music and eating from the ottoman with chopsticks, but because we can’t keep the food on the chopsticks and our legs begin to cramp we ditch th chop sticks and grab the forks. We then end the night rubbing each others legs in the area of the killer charlie horse we both got sitting with our legs crossed.
joshuasoper says

Time for the kids to spend some quality time with the grandparents. Then igniting the night by firelight in the fire pit on the patio out back would be wonderful and set the romantic mood. Enjoying a good meal and each other in the quiet has been a long time coming.
rjbsilver says
I think a special night for us would be to have the orange chicken for dinner, with something yummy for dessert, and a nice red wine (most likley two buck chuck…)
Of course, our daughter would be with a sitter, and we would go for a nice sunset walk after dinner, maybe followed up by a movie off of our netflix or on demand, and some ‘other’ fun stuff…this is what I have been thinking for us on our wedding anniversary, which is less than a month away, and I can’t believe that we have been married for four years already! (together for six)
mjkayla2 says
A simple easy way to ignite the night is to give your husband a manicure and/or pedicure. If yours is like mine. He likes nothing more than having me take care of the simple details that he doesn’t think about.
2fishymomuv5 says
Of course it’d be great to have the house to ourselves, but that’s not always possible with 5 kids around. After 20 yrs. of marriage, we have to look for ways to spice things up and P.F. Chang’s sounds perfect! One of my fave things to do would be to drive up into the hills (or mountains if you’re near them) and set up a table and chairs at a lookout, a small lantern or flashlight handy since any wind would blow candles out. Assuming your food is still HOT, you take turns feeding it to one another. Turn on the old boombox (ipod) and spend time reconnecting while dancing as the sun sets. Take a walk in the dusk and then enjoy a seriously chocolate dessert.

My hubby comes home for some R&R (rest and relaxation) for 2 weeks mid June from his 1 yr deployment overseas with the US Army….I’m sure we will be going out to all his favorites for supper, however this would be PERFECT for an eavinging meal at home! We love PF Chang’s and this giveaway couldn’t have come at a better time!
sspuleo says
Busy with our three kids and crazy work schedule for my husband, we very rarely go out for a nice dinner alone! This would be a wonderful prize!
CheerfulGirl says
My hubby and I would do a Sweet and Sour Chicken night that is the just-right combination of sweet and tangy! I’d start off with my famous homemade potstickers, served with soy-teriyaki sauce. We’d open the night with a funny comedy movie, something with spunk and probably Will Ferrel. PF Chang’s Sweet and Sour Chicken would be served with a tart wine, followed by a sweet coconut green tea. Dessert would be our favorite–strawberry shortcake! We love the combination of strawberries and the sweet whipped cream. We’d cuddle up afterward with a sweet, romantic movie (I’m thinking Ryan Reynolds!) Sweet and sour gives the night the right balance between something my husband can enjoy (plus many good laughs!) and the sweet romance that reminds us of when we first met. Eating at home with PF Changs means we don’t have to drive anywhere afterward! And the dishes might just have to wait until morning ;)
sandjfreebie says
Remembering the fun of childhood. This weekend summer night we will set up a tent in the backyard, ready with sleeping mattresses and bags. Set up a portable camp stove, a lantern, have flashlights, a cooler with drinks.
The package directions are very easy to follow and will cook just like on the inside stove. Then it’s time to serve a memorable delicious dinner under the stars.
The sky is clear and the stars are bright. Time to relax, listen to the crickets chirp, talk and laugh in peace.
Fun and games like hide and seek, flashlight puppet show on the tent walls, maybe even a scary ghost story or two. Then snuggling in for a good sleep.
Julieb says
Oh ! I love this! What I’d do is first to drop the kiddos off at Grandma & Papa’s house so we could be totally alone. I’d decorate the family room with paper lanterns and lots of red candles and set out a red blanket on the floor for an impromptu picnic. This could be so fun if I could get a hold of a kimono and put up my hair to reflect a Geisha. Of course, we’d be using chopsticks to dig into to that yummy dinner! And…we’d have some warm sake to compliment our dinner too. As for the fortune cookies, I could buy some from the store and using tweezers I could remove the existing fortune and replace it with some of my own to spice up the night after dinner :) Crossing my fingers cause…this sounds like amazing fun!!!
Firedancer41 says
We would dine “al fresco” on the deck on a nice cool evening, with a batch of my hubby’s homemade mojitos made with garden mint, some Changs for 2 (using chopsticks of course!) followed by some relaxing, child-free convo in the hammock beneath the stars!

I would take the card table up to our room and put it by the fireplace and set the table. I would then cut out paper hearts and throw them all over the room. I have Frank Sinatra on my computer, so I would crank that up and light some candles and have a well deserved dinner with my man with no kids. After 22 years we still keep the love alive.

I love to get a bottle of wine and drink it in our bedroom. It is so relaxing to sit in bed, talk, and enjoy some wine. Then we aren’t distracted by the TV, computer, or cleaning that needs to be done in the rest of the house.

How about a little role playing…I think it is fun when my husband and I have a free night to act like this is our first date. Where we are trying to impress and make a good impression. We are totally engaged in what each other are saying and ask questions, make eye contact and even flirt a little. After being married for so long and having three kids…sometimes we get set in our ways at dinner and start talking about bills, kids activities, etc… we forget to talk about ourselves !
Use role playing to spice up the night along with the PF Changs, exotic meals !!!

When we live a hectic lifestyle, it’s easy to get lost in the mundane.
The bland.
A meal becomes simply something that tides us over.
And, our relationships can become bland, too.
We crave something more.
Every once in a while we need to take it to a new level.
Raise our expectations: about conversation, about food.
We need layers of flavor in our relationships and in our food. Now, we can get P.F. Chang’s Home Menu to help spice things up. As for the relationship part, that’s up to us ;)

Well, my husband are awaiting the arrival of our 2nd child. So we will need a lot of fast hot dinners very soon. However, my husband and I would eat dinner put our child or future children to bed, and sit outside in front of a hot fire while enjoying a glass of wine and in my case a big cup of water or ice cream. That is my idea of igniting the night.

Our daughter lives in Asia. It is always fun to look at the scrapbooks I’ve done from our trips there. We could spend the night eating the food and reminecing our good times with her while we look at the books.

I love the oncoming wamer weather. Who wants to turn on the oven? Skillet meals are the way to go. I would light my new firepot, sit on the same side as my hubby at the picnic table, feed each other bites of food to try 2 different meals. There’s something about tasty food that fills you up and makes you warm inside, bonding people together and making you feel warm together. Between each bite tell your loved one something you like about him/her. Don’t forget to look for a shooting star once in awhile and make that wish for PF Changs meals to fall from the sky.

I’d “Ignite the Night” by arranging an overnight for the kids with grandma. Cooking together is fun and whets the appetite. We love the orange chicken dinner which would be paired with a nice Chinese beer and finished up with some almond cookies. We already have been blessed with the best fortune of all – being married to each other! An after dinner outing to a show or concert would be great followed up back at home by our own “fireworks”.

Is to spend the evening with my husband. We don’t have kids yet but with jobs that keep us at work for 45+ hours a week and my husband in graduate school at night… well sometimes seeing each other and having a “date”: watching a movie snuggled on the sofa is enough for us.

My hubby and I would make PF Chang’s Shanghai Style Beef (the hubby loves meat).Take the meal and some Chinese beers out on the porch and watch the Arizona monsoon lightning and thunder display Ignite the Night.

When my husband and I have a “Date Night” we frequently enjoy P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Meals for Two. We start the evening by making a fresh pot of steamed rice. While that is cooking (since it takes longer than the entrees) we prep our dinner space – setting up two TV trays side by side in the living room with a “tablecloth” and cutlery and beverages, we dim the lights and find a movie we’ll both enjoy. Then we stand side by side in the kitchen and make a P.F. Chang Home Menu meal each. His favorite is Orange Peel Chicken while I prefer Beef with Broccoli. We prep a “to go” box with half of each of our meals for lunch the next work day. Then we both sit on the couch and enjoy our movie. By doing the prep and cooking (and eating) together it gives us plenty of time to talk, tease and just spend time with each other!
Threepotvins says

When we moved into our first home, we didn’t have any furniture, dining or living room, but we wanted to have our first meal together, so we laid out a blanket in the living room, ordered Chinese food, and used one candle (which I found in one of the bathroom boxes) to eat by. It was by far one of the most romantic nights we’ve had; it was simple and we talked about all of the things we’d be doing with our house and our future.
soapboxtray says
If the weather is not so great, get a few good movies and throw down your blanket and move the furniture and have your spicy, snappy, yummy PF Chang’s on the floor watching some movies and eating and then “igniting” :-) If the weather is nice, blanket in front of a fire pit is awesome too!

My beautiful bride of over 30 years and I will wrap ourselves in festive plastic tablecloths to look like kimonos and tie with obi sashes made of expired coupons braided together,
so that when we attempt to eat with Chinese chopsticks we will not have to use Chinese laundress to get them clean.
We will speak only in Mandarin, by the light of chinese lanterns.
We will lather ourselves in free Off spray so when we dine upon the large expanse of grass matting in our backyard we will not be fodder for mosquitos or have to resort to karate chopping them to death.
We will use our Hello Kitty place mats.
We will put little paper umbrellas in our sockies because we do not care for saki.
We will bow in thanksgiving for this precious gift as we herald in the new moon.
We will have Mandarin oranges, fortune cookies and tea for dessert.
All of our fortunes will come true.

Well let’s see how we could “ignite the night”. . . A typical evening for us was just like last night. I finished up the chores after getting the 3 children to bed and found my husband – with remote securely clutched in hand – asleep on the couch. I remove the remote carefully, so as not to awake him from his much needed rest (wink, wink), and flip on the Oprah show. It is part 1 of her Farewell Show. I watch for a while and begin to doze myself . . .
I dream I am the incredible Beyonce strutting my stuff on stage while Tom Cruise (my husband) watches from the front row. He smiles at me adoringly. After the performance, Tom Cruise (my husband) wisks me off to a romantic, cozy dinner for two. We enjoy a lovely meal of P.F. Chang’s Ginger Chicken & Broccoli by candle light. We share a bottle of wine and enjoyable conversation. After dinner Tommy begins to whisper sweet nothing’s in my ear, “My darling wife, thank you for all you do to save us money with your coupons. You are an amazing woman.” I begin to giggle. Tommy continues “Would you like to ….
“Mommy, Mommy, wake up! I had a bad dream!” I jump up, Oh drat, I’m back to reality! I pick up my little kiddo and nudge my husband (NOT exactly Tom Cruise) that it’s time to go to bed. I feel a little sad that it was only a dream.
As I begin to go up the stairs I remember something. We DID enjoy a delicious family dinner from P.F Chang’s! I had felt so happy and relaxed from not having to slave in the kitchen that it must have inspired the amazing dream I had. I smile and glance in the mirror—NOT exactly Beyonce, but happy just the same!

First things first, GET A BABYSITTER! Nothing ruins a romantic moment than yelling “I SAID EAT YOUR DINNER!” at your little ones. Hopefully you have a fireplace or if not, a fire pit on the back patio. Eat dinner together and talking may or may not happen-sometimes just flirty smiles are all you need. Finish dinner and forget the dishes for now. You probably know what you want to do next! =D

First things first, no cell phones and no tv during dinner. Two notoriously bad habits for my Fiance and I. My Fiance and I’s first date was to get Chinese, and it’s always brought us back to that first date together. We’d probably cozy up on the couch and watch that first movie together as well. Sometimes it really is the simple things in life that make it all worth while.

I have to say, that as a Full time wife, mother, employee and student….I am EXHAUSTED when I get home. Which makes it quite difficult for me and the hubby to find time for “us” between work, school, toting the kids to karate and keeping up in kickboxing class….so, when PF changs dinners go on sale, I snatched them up when i can. PF Changs is my FAVORITE restaurant…it is the only place I chose to go to when the hubby and I can sneak in a date night. When we can’t get out…we sneak a little romance in at home.
You have to make sure that the kids are off at Grandmas house for the evening and you open a bottle of wine. I always make sure to wear something nice, not just the jeans and t-shirt I had on from the days festivities. You have to make it special. LIght a few candles, eat at the dining room table and NOT in front of the TV. The conversation should revolve around the future and not the children or work. Talk about what it is you appreciate about the other person. Once a month, my husband and I remind each other and ourselves what it is taht made us fall in love to begin with. YOu have to revisit those moments, or you can get too caught up in life. These meals are great for a romantic evening at home. Just throw in a skillet and go put your make up on ladies!!!

After a long day at work coming home to something besides hot dogs and hamburgers would be a real change but to go a step further, kick off your shoes, light the candles, turn out the lights, put a fire in the fireplace, beach sounds on the CD player, paper plates covered with Shrimp in Garlic Sauce, and a blanket on the floor with maybe a non alcoholic margarita or two in the blender sound great!

Igniting the night actually takes a couple of days of planning for me — starting usually the day before, I start leaving an elaborate ‘scavenger hunt’ or clue series for my partner. If she’s packing a lunch, I put a card with a word or clue inside it. My past ‘ignition’ clues have included even leaving a flyer on her windshield while she’s at work, posting a riddle on her Facebook wall, sending her flowers with a cryptic card, leaving an item in her purse — she’s pretty bright and is on to me fairly quickly, so I have to keep coming up with more subtle ideas. She sometimes gets aggravated but she does so with a little smile! Sometimes I’ve stumped her and had to explain afterward why I left a particular clue — this also opens up dialogue and reinforces each other’s true knowledge of their life-companion.

First I would get my trusty babysitter-she lives a few doors down-to watch the kids. Then I would prepare the meal and serve on our finest china-the designer plates by dixie (no dishes to wash-maybe not the most earth friendly choice, but I’m making this easy for me!). I would pair it with our favorite wine, which would be a Moscato, sparkling or not… For dessert, we’d have to go brownies… If weather permits, we would sit outside next to the fire pit to eat our meal and enjoy the quiet (though we would be able to hear our kids, the coyotes, the dogs barking next door, etc.)…
MamaHan says
I’d ignite the night with my family by letting each person be in charge of a dish to help with the meal. We had fun doing this with all Italian foods one memorable meal, so of course we’d do Chinese night for this meal. The kids could easily put a PF Chang’s in the microwave for their contribution or perhaps make a simple almond jello with fruit for dessert. I fry a mean dumpling, so that would be an easy way to round out the meal. We could open a bottle of sparkling grape juice for the kids and eat by candlelight. Chopsticks would be a must! Throughout the meal, we could teach each other words in Chinese.
Maybe after dinner we could spin a globe and pick the next cuisine to explore. Hmmm, maybe Greek or Mexican or ???
