Memphis’ Action News 5 has the story of a coupon shopper who was attacked by a Dollar Tree manager after trying to use coupons in the store — and the assault was caught on tape:
From the story:
The sign at the store states coupons are accepted at Dollar Tree but a shopper is now nursing a busted lip and popped blood vessels in her eye after she says the manager refused to deal with her “wad of coupons”. She said she was attacked while leaving the store.
Missy Monzo-Marte says she was shopping at the Dollar Tree in Germantown with a friend, both of whom belong to the DeSoto County Coupon Club.
Jennifer Hill says they had a similar run in with the same manager last week. Now, they want answers from corporate.
“The only purpose for hitting record was so when Dollar Tree called me back I had proof of how we were treated in the store,” said Hill.
But instead, hitting record caught the alleged attack on camera and led to Germantown police citing employee Shauna Shipman with misdemeanor assault.
No one from Dollar Tree returned Action News 5’s calls.
“Was this really all over coupons? I mean here we are, we’re trying to save money,” said Monzo-Marte.

The week they started taking coupons, I had a clerk refuse all my coupons. I was in the right and following their policies but she insisted I was wrong. i asked for a manger. Another clerk came over, saying she was the manager they started talking about me in Spanish ( which I understand a little) and some comments were racial.
I wrote to Dollar Tree, and did not get any response at all. not even a generic we will look into this.
Now. i will not shop there. usually I would not boycott a whole chain for the action of a few bad employees, but the fact corporate would not acknowledge me made me walk away.

One more excuse to never shop there. I’m rather deal with the hoops at Walgreens, thank-you-kindly.

I have had good luck at our local Dollar Tree’s (Wauconda, Fox Lake and Lake Zurich) it was the week after and they did have to put the coupons in manually, every location, and questioned the amount of IPs and I had the coupon policy on my phone so I showed her, and have only been and used at each location once so I don’t know how it has been lately. There is no reason to be working in retail if you can’t control your anger. It is sick and sad.

You know what they say when you assume. We cannot assume anything here, but what you see in the video is the manager hitting the customer. These are the facts, like other people have said, nothing the customer may have said or didn’t say (I’m not going to assume the customer called the manager a name) should result in violence and if it does then charges should be filed. We are humans, but we have to have our emotions in check. This world is getting rougher by the minute and everyday we see people killed because someone lost their temper or someone said something they didn’t like. If we could all learn to just walk away, wow, think about where our society would be!!

I have worked at 3 retail stores (target, express, office depot) and we were specifically told to NEVER put our hands on anyone even if they are stealing because it could result in a lawsuit. If we saw someone run out the door with a pile of clothes/merchandise we could not chase after and tackle them and I am assuming that rule applies to almost all retail stores. (I know they were not stealing but same principles apply to punching someone)
Who cares if she said some snide comment, you do NOT punch someone at your place of employment. I do not see any scenario that the woman does not lose her job. She should have kept her emotions in check.
I have only used coupons once at dollar tree and it was 2 coupons and I did not have a problem. He did read the coupons really carefully before he used them, but he did not hassle me at all.
