JC Penney has released a new YouTube video apologizing for the changes that took place last year.
It states, in part, “Some changes you liked and some you didn’t, but what matters from mistakes is what we learn. We learned a very simple thing, to listen to you. To hear what you need, to make your life more beautiful. Come back to JCPenney. We heard you.”

We heard all you ladies and the two guys in hetero relationships who get dragged here by their partners.

Although an apology is nice, what exactly are they doing to “fix” the changes they made? I have seen a few random coupons recently in the inserts – that’s good. But, what about the changes made in merchandise? Or in store layout/design? I really do not like the big Sephora box in the middle of the JCP store where I shop. They have definitely changed things to cater to different clientele – a younger crowd. I’m not sure that the teens and young adults will shop much at JCP.

I hope JCP brings back their JCP Home draperies and bedding regardless of whether the Martha Stewart deal comes to pass or not. I’ve been buying JCP Supreme Satin drapes since I got married 35 years ago. I’ve always loved the variety of colors and styles offered. Last month, I had to buy a Supreme Satin item on eBay of all places because Penneys discontinued it! One more sale they passed up because of their poor decisions.
I also tried to buy a spring jacket at Penneys this year. Believe it or not, Penneys DIDN’T BUY ANY this year! Check their website and you’ll see only fall and winter coats online. I went to my local off-mall JCP store 2 weekends ago and asked where I could find the spring coats and jackets. An employee sheepishly told me that they didn’t have any. I asked if I could find them at one of their larger mall stores nearby, and the employee told me that NONE of the stores have them in stock. She said something about management thinking that the weather this year was too cold for a spring jacket and they probably wouldn’t sell many of them. What a crock! Maybe the weather in some parts of the country isn’t great this spring (I live in Illinois), but what about the warmer states? These buying decisions are made far in advance of knowing what the weather will be like. Why would a DEPARTMENT STORE not carry spring coats? I was shocked.
What is happening at JCP makes me very sad. I’m 56 years old and I’ve been shopping at Penney’s since I was a teenager. JCP has always been my favorite department store. My family has bought a lot of their clothes and I’ve decorated my home with their products for many years. I hope they manage to fix their problems so they don’t disappear. I would truly miss them.

I was really turned off by Penneys when I went this past weekend. ALL of the products have little stickers covering the old price. The new price is sometimes DOUBLE the old price. The stickers peel off VEEEERRRY easily…so it’s easy to see that their new “sales” are higher prices than their old original prices. This proves that, while they might be apologizing, they are really not taking their customers seriously. I mean, ANYONE can peel off a little sticker. I work in retail and any time we increase the price on a product, we have to completely remove the old sticker so no sign of the old price remains. And we only raise prices on very specific products when our distributer raises them…we NEVER have to re-sticker the entire store. I feel badly for their employees…I chose not to buy anything, even though I had a coupon, just because the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth.
