Did you know that Jewel-Osco has launched Home Delivery service in Chicagoland? Instead of heading down to the store, you can complete your entire grocery shopping trip online from your computer or smart device, choose a delivery time window, and relax until your groceries arrive at your door.
Grocery delivery is available in Chicago and throughout a large area of the Chicagoland suburbs. My sister is in the process of planning her daughter’s birthday party, so we put Jewel-Osco’s grocery delivery to the test, both for birthday party baking supplies and other groceries for my sister’s family.
This was the first time she had used Jewel’s grocery delivery service. My sister is both a full-time teacher and the mother to two busy girls, so she was excited about saving time by ordering her groceries online instead of heading to the store.
We headed to http://shop.jewelosco.com and began a new shopping trip. Jewel-Osco’s grocery delivery site is very easy to use — you can shop by aisle just as you would in a traditional store. You can also search by keyword, typing things like “milk,” “orange juice,” or by brands, like “O Organics.”
Once you’ve narrowed your search down to a specific brand or product category, you can also sort the list by most popular buys, in ascending or descending order to look for the best prices for the items you’re interested in. My sister planned to make crispy rice treats for her daughter’s party, and she was looking for the least expensive option for rice cereal. In sorting the list by price, she noted that the name-brand Rice Krispies were on sale, making them slightly lower in price than Jewel’s own-brand counterpart.
While you cannot use paper manufacturer coupons with grocery delivery, Jewel-Osco offers many electronic coupon offers that delivery customers can take advantage of. Make sure to browse the “Promo Code Deals” on the left menu to see what free offers are available. On the day we placed our order, Jewel-Osco was offering a free bottle of Tropicana Probiotics juice!
You’ll also find instant-savings, buy-one-get-on-free, and spending threshold offers in this area, such as “Buy $150 worth of groceries, get FREE Signature Select ice cream.”
Once you’ve finished adding groceries to your online cart, you can choose a one-hour delivery window at checkout. My sister loved the convenience of being able to have her groceries delivered at night after settling in with her family once everyone was home from work and school. Jewel-Osco will deliver as late as 10:00pm!
Sure enough, as nighttime rolled around, so did the Jewel-Osco home delivery truck! The truck pulled up to my sister’s house, and the delivery driver brought the groceries right to her door. Jewel’s delivery trucks are divided into multiple temperature-controlled compartments, so your frozen foods arrive frozen — no melty ice cream! Refrigerated items, like produce, are also kept crisp at the correct temperature.
Jewel’s delivery driver unloaded the groceries and placed them on a dolly to bring to the front door. Did you know that the Jewel-Osco delivery drivers do not accept tips? Jewel believes grocery delivery should be a no-pressure situation, and the delivery drivers are committed to making this a pleasant, positive experience for shoppers. My sister opted to receive her groceries at her front door, but Jewel-Osco’s drivers will carry your groceries to your kitchen for you if you’d like help bringing them inside!
Here’s my sister’s selection from her first Jewel-Osco online grocery shopping spree! As you can see, she bought a lot of things for her daughter’s birthday party, for upcoming holiday entertaining, and general family groceries. She said, “I thought I would be intimidated by the idea of shopping online, and I thought it would be cumbersome and easier just to go to the store. I don’t know what I envisioned it to be, but it was actually quite easy!” It really is — she spent less than fifteen minutes putting this order together.
She’s got lunchbox milk, snacks and treats (the O Organics chocolate animal cookies are a favorite in her house, and they were on sale for just .99 per box!) as well other pantry staples, and of course, her free Tropicana Probiotics juice.
Everything she needed to make a birthday cake is here too. The Signature Farms canola oil was on sale Buy One Get One Free. My sister is creating a tropical-island-themed birthday cake, and she’s also been looking for multiple cans of Pepperidge Farm Pirouettes wafers to function as “bamboo” accents around the cake’s border. Instead of hunting in the store for the right variety, she just ordered them online, and now she’s ready to start baking. No need to go back to the store for ice cream either — it arrived frozen, just as it should.
Now that she’s placed an order, my sister’s order history is saved within her account. On her next order, she can select “Shop By History” and quickly add their most-purchased items to another order without having to hunt for them. I strongly suspect the O Organics animal cookies will be part of her next order…

Hey, I wanted to tell you we tried this! We live in Schaumburg. I was surprised how easy it was, it took hardly any time to do! My brother lives in Hampshire but the delivery isn’t there yet. Any idea when it will be?
Coupon Maven says
I’m not 100% sure as they’re not quite out to my area yet either :) What Jewel told me is that they are basing their expansion areas around the zip codes people use on the site to see if they can currently place a delivery order. So, if it’s not yet available, keep trying — hopefully they will continue their expansion soon :)

Do you know what kind of receipts they bring? Is it the typical store receipt? I use Ibotta, which requires a normal store receipt. I want to give it a try if I can still use Ibotta.
Coupon Maven says
That is a good question! My sister did get an emailed copy of the receipt, but I do not remember if there was a tape-style store receipt in there too. I will ask her & report back :)
UPDATE: She says the receipt she got at delivery is a computer printout on regular 8 12/2″ x 11″ white paper.
Michelle says
Thanks for checking. That’s a bummer. I know Ibotta won’t allow those. Without that or the paper coupons, it’s worth just going to the store. Thanks for your help!

Tried jewel home delivery this weekend because we were sick thought it would be good . Ha what a joke . Half our items of common everyday things were out of stock nobody bothered to let us know until the guy delivered it. How can they possibly be out of everyday items like Campbell chicken noodle soup and potato chips , green peppers. When I sent email to complain no one has even bothered to reply. Jewel has really gone downhill since they bought out Dominick’s. And customer service stinks

It’s a SCAM! I tried the first delivery Promo Code 20 for free delivery and $20. Was charged the extra $20. They don’t include the fine print when ordering. SCAM!

Thought I would use this online ordering service for my father-in-law who lives in Chicago – we live in Georgia. Found a coupon for $20 off and free delivery on first order – great right? Well, my grocery total came to $59 (after coupon and free delivery) I paid via credit card. However, my credit card statement showed that I was charged $90.88. When I pulled up the past order on the my account page – there was yet another total $70.85. Called the number they posted in the contact us for help section. Was placed on hold found another phone number while I was waiting, used my cell phone to call that number – two phones going. I was fortunate that I had a wait time only of 15 mins on this number: 877-505-4040
The girl that answered the phone could not explain the different totals. She said there were bag fees? Um… $30 worth?? Then it was “well there were substitutions made and that caused a price difference” – wow, you mean “bait and switch” sounds illegal…. then it was the different stores charge different prices – well, I was purchasing online with online pricing…. And why then did the ‘store’ have the final charge as $70.85 but the credit bill say $90.88?? No answers could be given – or actually the answers kept changing. Finally, I demanded that she do something to make this right – “what can you do to make this correct because you cannot even explain why there was such a difference – what refund can you give me?” She offered $50 off my next online purchase…. um what next online purchase …. and in other words that could easily be worth what $5 and another huge chunk of time and headache. I said I’d like my $30 difference refunded back on my credit card. She said she couldn’t do that much $ because she had already put the $50 on my account. So I said $20 then. Got it! So basically we lost $10 because I’ll be dammed if I’m going to trust ordering this again even with $50 credit THAT IS HOW TERRIBLE THIS “SERVICE” is —- buyer beware. Wish they had a negative on the rating scale above – because that’s what it was a NEGATIVE experience.

Since the COVID 19 crises, I have been trying to get home delivery with little success. When I try to choose a day for home delivery, all the days are taken up. I have had to opt for pickup at a Jewel store more than five miles from my home. I will be picking up my first order Saturday.
I wanted to do home delivery to comply with our Governor’s order to stay in our homes as much as possible. Having to drive to a store several miles from ,my home, even though I stay in the car, defeats the purpose of the stay-at-home order. It’s ridiculous that I have two Jewel stores close by and have to go out of my way to obtain groceries.
Bottom line: Don’t bother with this service! Jewel doesn’t seem to want to bother to get more people to get the groceries out.
Coupon Maven says
As much as I like Jewel, I have yet to be successful in getting -any- delivery or pickup time at all from them during the current Corona crisis — and there is a Jewel less than 3 miles from my house. We have done grocery pickup at Fresh Market, which is more expensive and further away, but I am always able to schedule a time with them that is 24-48 hours out from the current day. Mariano’s has caught up somewhat and is showing pickup dates about 10-14 days out from the current day.
I have read that Jewel is in the process of hiring more people for all its stores to help with the increased delivery/curbside packing of orders. Hopefully things balance out soon for them.

Tip your delivery drivers!!
Kevin says
They don’t allow you to tip the drivers. Presumably because they have no vehicle/gas costs as the delivery trucks are company owned and I’d assume they’re being pad more than minimum wage…so presumably more like $15-$20 per hour.
