Beginning tomorrow, Jewel-Osco has announced price drops on a variety of product categories for summer:
Today JEWEL-OSCO has outlined plans for a significant price reduction to begin on thousands of items in key categories in its stores. With 180 locations and more than 113 years serving our local communities, JEWEL-OSCO remains committed to being Chicagoland’s premier neighborhood grocery store. Specifically, the price reductions will be noticed in dairy, bakery (Bake Shop), deli (Chef’s Kitchen), liquor, beer and wine; ice cream and frozen novelties and in the cereal categories. Our shoppers will notice exciting changes like these across the store throughout the summer.
These reductions come on items and categories that our customers have said are some of the most important on their shopping lists. As part of the reductions, JEWEL-OSCO is also introducing a new marketing campaign titled “Gotta Love Lower Prices” that will begin running in advertising creative and television and radio spots beginning next week.
These lower prices are not a short-term promotion, or a sales price that will change with the next circular release. Our customers have been asking for lower prices on the items they buy most, and beginning Thursday, we’re proud to be able to offer new pricing on thousands of items.
UPDATE: Here’s the new television commercial that will accompany the promo:

I’m wondering if this is just their way of getting us ‘psyched-up’ for the upcoming changes to the Preferred Card program. They want us more invested so we’re not so ‘ready to jump’ when they introduce the new program on us. (Boy, I think I’m getting more cynical by the day with all of these changes to the couponing world!) :(

They are going to be running that gas promotion again this summer. The more spend in Jewel the more you will get off gas!

I’m foreseeing a Walmart-like business model in the future….with the same “low” prices all the time. I don’t like it. Don’t mess with what’s working, Jewel!
