If you shop at Jewel, you might be aware of their Preferred Card Update promotions. These promotions travel to new Jewel locations periodically, setting up a blue tent at the store. If you go to the tent and update your Jewel Preferred Card info (name, address, etc. – basically, keeping your contact info current) you get a free coupon book with over $100 worth of coupons in it!
The book itself is great, but what makes it even sweeter are the coupons for FREE items inside:
1 FREE Culinary Circle pizza
1 FREE half-gallon Wild Harvest organic milk
1 FREE 3lb. bag of apples
1 FREE case of Jewel bottled water
1 FREE 4-pack of Homelife toilet paper
1 FREE bottle of Equaline Ibuprofen
Those are some sweet freebies for doing very little work! Plus, some of these things (pizzas, apples, ibuprofen) go on sale B1G1F fairly often… and if you hold these coupons, you can get TWO for free! :)
Scheduled dates run:
Fridays and Mondays: 3pm to 8pm.
Saturdays: 10 AM to 3 PM
Sundays: Noon to 5 PM.

Thanks for the list. Is it just me or are other southsiders feeling no love from Jewel? The closest one I ever remember them doing was countryside. Nothing close to the Monster Shoppers of Midway!

Does anyone know if the Jewel in Chesterton IN is going to be doing this as well?
Cmarie1971 says
Will the new card effect how the Catalina deals work? I read in a blog that during the Kellogg’s sale some customers were not able to do the deal more than once because they had updated their preferred card.

I just got 2 free culinary circle pizzas and a bag of apples. No tax!

Can you send out the june schedule?

Is the June schedule out yet and where on the internet can I locate it?? Thanks.
kdawg says
They only know one month at a time. They will have all dates for June on Monday. They hold them Friday, Sat, Sun and Monday of every week at a different location.
If someone can call on Monday and post back with the new June dates that would be awesome. I posted the April dates a while back.

I signed up 3 different cards & they gave me 3 coupon books!!! Made my hubby drive us to Oswego on Friday evening, and he was really pleased with all the q’s too! :)

Hey all, today I was in Evanston and noticed a sign up regarding the Jewel Card Update!
They’ll be at 1128 Chicago Ave in Evanston (across from Whole Foods)
on Sunday June 7th from 12-5pm.
I’ll be driving down there with my family(a quick twenty minute trip) so we can each get a coupon book!
Ariella says
because I was told today by Jewel customer service (on the phone) that this was only a May event. There were none planned for June. ???
So I’m glad to read that there was a store sighting!!

Check the link Jill provided.

Did anyone else head on over to Romeoville today? What fun! I told my husband that I don’t need a fancy vacation; just let me go to Jewel for 2 hours by myself on a beautiful day!
They had promos up the wazoo. I missed out on the free Tide Soccer ball, but got a taste of some wine and a mojito (always good in my book!), got a free mojito grinder thingy, found some cheap chicken for the 4/19.99 deal…and of course, did a “deal.” Found some Oscar Meyer hot dogs for .50–I know, I know, I spent too much! =) And to top it off, I had THE nicest cashier! GREAT DAY. Oh, and I landed two more books…which equals 4 more free pizzas which equals 4 more nights of no cooking which equals 4 more nights of a happy mommy! Yay! WIN, WIN, WIN. =)

it appears that the link to the Jewel card update site Jill has here is now broken or not valid…….I cannot get the calendar of events for updates to come up anymore. Anyone else having this problem??
bargainista says
Does anyone know if Jewel has released their pref. card promo dates for July? Tried the link and it did not work.
Beachlover says
Does anyone know if the items that are free from updating your preferred card ever go B1G1 Free? I have been looking for B1G1 for any of these items since I updated my card early last month but I haven’t seen any of them listed as such in the Jewel flyers during all of June.

The Jewel promo has gotten a little trickier. Instead of going and updating as many cards as you want, they require you to have a picture ID for every jewel card you are updating. So, if you are updating family members/friends cards… make sure to bring their ID along. I went to the Algonquin one today and was surprised that their policy has changed. The lady working there stated people were abusing the system and therefore now they have to ask for picture ID’s to go along with the update and to get your coupon booklet.

FYI- for those of you heading to the Lake Forest promo tent, it is not there today. It is actually at the Jewel in Highland Park.

I just got off the phone with Pat, in Jewel’s corporate office.
She apologized for my difficulties this weekend. As many of us expected, the folks running the tent are an outside marketing company, and NOT Jewel employees.
Pat told me that they are absolutely NOT supposed to be asking for any sort of ID from customers. She has talked to the Algonquin store manager, and someone will be talking with the outside marketing company that runs these events to straighten them out.
Hopefully this will get fixed before the next event. If any one has problems with this in the future, either call Jewel corporate at 1-877-932-7948 or fill out the customer satisfaction form on the web site https://www.jewelosco.com/eCommerceWeb/AboutAlbertsonsAction.do?action=getContactUs
I clearly expressed my concern about what a third party company might be doing with this additional information, and the potential for abuse. She understood my concerns, and told me that long ago they used to ask for DL and/or SSN for preferred cards if they were used as check cashing cards. I know I didn’t give mine out even back then. But they’ve deleted all of that information from their records, because of the security issues that I’ve had too many encounters with lately.
Pat verified the info they have for my card, and she is going to be sending me the coupon book that I didn’t get Saturday.
BTW, she also said that we are NOT supposed to be going to multiple events and getting multiple coupon books, and they know that some people are “abusing” the system. I told her that there was no such stated restriction in the advertising of these events, and that checking drivers licenses does NOT prevent this any way. IF they want to limit it, the obvious thing to validate your preferred card ID number at the event.
While I’m sure many here wouldn’t like to see any limit on this, it’s certainly up to Jewel to do so. But If they are going to do so, they need to clearly state their policy so that everyone knows exactly how often they are allowed to get another coupon booklet. Is the limit once a month, once a quarter, once a year, only when they come to your “home” store, or what? If they don’t tell us the rules, we certainly can’t be expected to follow them. And if there is no stated limit (as there isn’t currently), then we’re certainly not doing anything wrong by doing this as often as we can.

I also last time got a coupon book with expired coupons. I contacted corporate office and they sent me a book with non-expired coupons. Maybe if all of us complain when that happens they will start watching the expired coupon books more closely.
PS They were very pleasant at corporate when I called and the book came very quickly.

ok, so we finally, finally made it to a blue tent event in Naperville and got our coupon books. And looking thru them, noticed that 2 pages have been very neatly and precisely cut out near the back of the booklet!!! Has anyone else noticed this?? Just curious what we are missing, after the Kashi coupon and before the back cover.

I got to talking with the rep last week. He said that they’ve been to a large percentage of the stores already. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but something like 170 out of 190.
It will be interesting to see if they continue it by going back to locations a second time

I spoke to the head rep last week during the Chgo Hts visit. He said the contract with Jewel expires on Nov. 2. Currently, he is unaware if Jewel will renew the contract.
He continued to say he does about 4 stores a week. Jewel has stores from Moline to Indiana, and his team covers them all. The city stores are usually done on Mondays. I asked about the visits to the southside stores. He said he has already been to the majority of those stores. He asked me to name a store and he could provide me with a date. I asked about 75th and Stoney, he said before Thanksgiving. I asked about 95th and Stoney, he said back in May (that was true, I was testing him!) I asked about Roosevelt and Racine – June (also true). He said the only store he has not been to was 117 and Marshfield which was coming up.
He also mentioned about other different color tent stores at Jewel – the green tents pass out organic items and the black tents are for re-grand openings. Both of the teams on these tents visit about one store a week. A slower schedule than the green tent team. I asked for a schedule for the green tent, he said one doesn’t exist (Thanks 4 doing this Jill!).
He also eluded to other teams at this company may have a contract with another grocer here in the area. Hope this answers the majority of everyone’s questions.

I was told by the blue tent rep. that we are only to update once, as to discourage “chasing” blue tents. There’s a sign posted on their blue tent, update once per customer. He states they are getting cards back from their management stating that this person already updated and to discourage them from updating again, hence the sign posted. Any thoughts??
