Hi- The Jewel on Chicago Avenue in Evanston still has a ton of mushroom compost and manure for $1 a bag. I was there last night, and they had at least 50 bags of each, and they had some potting soil, and all their top soil marked down to $1 a bag too. I might go back and get another 4 bags of mushroom compost. It was raining when I got to the store last night, and plus it was lightening.
I believe they had their plants on sale for 75% off too, but I did not see anything that interested me. I was mostly looking for veggie plants.
I also got three pots of cinnamon basil at the Evanston farmer’s market last Saturday for $1 a pot, and they are $2.75 a pot at the nursery where I buy most of my plants. John First had a few other herb plants for $1 too including sage.
I live in a condo, and I have found out the hard way, that the only flowers that work well on my balcony are inpatients, and I never see them on sale really cheap at Jewel. At the community garden I have, I generally do not plant flowers since I have limited space. Right now I have sugar snap peas, lettuce, lots of tomato plants, broccoli green onions, peppers and eggplants in my garden. I am going to plant some beans, more lettuce, Japanese turnips, kale, carrots and some Asian greens in my garden when I get a chance. Hope this helps, Nancy

I was at the Oswego Walmart on Saturday and they had a big rack of clearance clothes for boys, mostly long sleeve t-shirts and a few pants, and most things were $1.00. They had a lot of size 4/5 and 6/7. I walked out with 2 pair of pants and 8 shirts for my boys. Just wanted to share in case anyone was in need of these kind of items.
