After the upgrade, Jewel instructed its cashiers to manually verify and ring coupon overages and second coupons on Buy One Get One Free sales, but over the past two years, this has become an increasingly frustrating issue for shoppers. Long-time cashiers are familiar with the issue, but cashiers who have joined Jewel within the last two years may or may not be up to speed on Jewel’s policy. Many of them are inclined to simply trust what the register does versus manually correcting coupon values in accordance with policy.
But there may be good news on the horizon. This evening, I heard from one of my readers who’s also a longtime Jewel cashier. (She’s emailed me numerous times over the years, and her information has always been good.) Here’s what she has to say:
“We got an in-store memo that says the issue with the coupon overage ringing correctly is finally going to be corrected. The registers are supposed to be updated around the first week of March, and according to the memo, coupon overages should automatically scan and be applied to the entire basket as long as the total doesn’t go into the negative. I’m sure this will be great news to all Jewel-Osco shoppers!”
Great news, indeed. She didn’t say whether the Buy One Get One Free issue is also being fixed, but I’ll try to find out more…
Coupon Maven says
Rachel over at Mashup Mom has an update on this from a reader too:
“The register update that was promised by Jewel is now in and working brilliantly. Coupons that exceed the value now say coupon exceeds price yes or no? And if they hit yes it scans for the full value instead of the items price.”
If this is the case, make sure to watch the register so that you are still credited for the full amount of your coupons in an overage / B1G1F situation, but this is a big step forward…
