Hope everyone’s having a great Labor Day! Reader Lynn Simmons posted this morning that today is the last day of Macy’s “Buy Any Denim, get $10 off your next purchase” sale. Last year, our family had a lot of fun with this sale, and my husband bought several pairs of Marc Ecko denim shorts (his favorite) for .39-$1.89 each after rolling the coupon.
So, as I read my blog this morning, I said “Hey, remember that Macy’s denim sale we did last Labor Day? One of my readers says that’s going again today.” And my husband was already getting his shoes on! None of us can resist a good sale…
We went to the Macy’s at Spring Hill Mall in Dundee. My daughter and I hit the Juniors denim racks, where they had a lot of denim shorts priced at $4.99. And yes, buying one pair qualifies you for a $10 off your next Macy’s purchase coupon! The coupons you get expire 9/9/12, so you don’t have to use them today — and certainly, if you didn’t mind buying and holding onto them, you could rack up quite a bit of future savings buying $4.99 jean shorts and getting $10 off your next Macy’s purchase.
We opted to roll the coupons instead to keep the out-of-pocket lower. Macy’s also has a 15% off Savings Pass on their website that you should print if you plan to make a run today. You won’t be able to use the 15% off AND the $10 off coupon in the same transaction, but it does help bring your out-of-pocket down for your first transaction.
So, here’s how our trip went:
Transaction #1
As long as your next purchase involves denim, you can keep getting another $10 coupon for each transaction.
Transaction #2
Transaction #3
The Levi’s rang up $9.97 for some reason, instead of the $9.99 that they were marked. With the shorts, they came to $14.94. I used the $10 coupon to drop it to $4.94, and with tax I paid $5.36 and got another $10 coupon. After this transaction, the cashier also told me that Levi’s are not something you can use the $10 coupon on. (The $10 coupon says “No Exclusions on Apparel” except for specials and super buys.) I asked why she didn’t tell me that before I paid, and she said the Levi’s aren’t a special or a super buy, but “I overrode it and made it work. Just don’t buy more Levi’s with the next one.” O-kay then.
I went downstairs, where my daughter had found three pairs of $4.99 denim shorts for herself.
Transaction #4
After using the $10 coupon, everything came to $4.97, and we paid $5.39 with tax and got another $10 Macy’s coupon.
Also, reader Lynn who posted about this sale noted that she was given a $10 coupon for EACH item of denim she bought, which would really sweeten the deal further if your store does this too. My Macy’s was giving one out per transaction, regardless of how many denim items were purchased IN that transaction. (This is how they did it last year too.) No complaints here though – we got some amazing deals all around. But if your store opts to give one coupon PER ITEM? You could have an even better trip!

Jill, I shopped at the Orland Park and the Joliet Mall and both stores gave me a $10 coupon for each denim purchased. That’s how they did it for me last year too.
We went back today to use the $80 in coupons and like you found cute denim shorts for my teenager and after reading about your husbands jeans last year we found the same brand for my husband!! $5 jeans for him too. Then we found awesome cool mens Guess shirts for $6-$10 after the coupon!! My teenager found lots of cool Guess tops and denim shorts and a adorable dress too!! Best deal of the day… A dress for homecoming on clearance 70% off after coupon it was $5!!! And I wish I could post a pictures because it is so gorgeous!!
Happy shopping!! So happy I could finally give you a deal ! :)

So wishing I had read this earlier. We were at Woodfield Mall today and I was excited because we got our 3 girls about $300 worth of clothes for next summer for $45.89 with tax. If I had known about this sale I could have done a lot more damage. Most of the clothes were ringing up for about $5 less then they were marked.

I didnt have as much luck. I did buy two pair of shorts for 11.89. One pair was Levis and was told like you that I couldnt get a coupon. The cashier was then not going to give me the $10 coupon for the other pair but finally did. I went to roll the coupon on another pair of jeans for my daughter and ended up paying $12 minus the $10 coupon. This cashier said the I wasnt allowed another coupon since I had used one on this transaction. Did get a few things but gave up and went home. This was at the Vernon Hills Macys. Will try again next year but was frustrated. Thanks for posting the sale I just wish the cashiers would all know the sale.
