I just got back from a shopping trip to the Algonquin Meijer, where two aisles of toys are marked up to 75% off! An employee was in the process of retagging everything while I was there, so they’ve just dropped. (I don’t know if all Meijers are dropping today, but it may be worth a call.)
Here’s how corporate determines which toys to drop. The employee I spoke with said that any toys that were brought in for Christmas and did not sell are currently at 50% off IF there are 5 or more of the same toy in inventory. If there are less than 5, the prices are dropping to 75% off.
And I found some really nice things today:
Hot Wheels track and launcher sets (various kinds)
Regular price: $21.97… 75% off: $5.49, $5.50
Fisher-Price racecar driver, policeman, or fireman helmets (they have a built-in mic so the child can talk through a speaker)
Regular price: $29.99… 75% off: $7.50
Play-Doh kits (various – 2 jars of Play-Doh and 2 shape/character stampers)
Regular price: $12.00… 75% off: $3.00
Star Wars modeling kits (construct a plastic ship)
Regular price: $9.99… 75% off: $2.50
And the biggest thing, which I stood in the aisle pondering over and ultimately did decide to buy, even though at 75% off, it was still pricey…
A Fisher Price Power Wheels A.T.REX 4-wheel ATV. It was originally $299.99, marked down to $75. It’s big enough that our little guys can both ride together, and they will love it. (And the Meijer still had one on the shelf at this price when I left..!)
Other things I saw that may interest you:
Motorized Mini Cooper cars (kids sit inside and drive, similar to a Power Wheels car)
Regular price: $230.00… 75% off: $57.50
When I left, they had 2 in stock, one pink, one blue
Nascar 16′ oval racetrack and motorized cars
Regular price: $50.00… 75% off: $12.50
Same set I bought my kids LAST year… at the same clearance price!
Little People Dance & Twirl Palace (pink castle playset)
Regular price:$35.00… 75% off: $8.75
Playskool toddler keyboard (plays music)
Regular price: $12.00… 75% off: $3.00
(There are a LOT of other toys for very young children, toddlers and babies there right now.)
As an aside, the reason I was at Meijer in the first place was to go shop the items from this week’s deals… with deal day on Monday now, I’m not shopping before I’m writing them up. And WOW, you are good at cleaning out stores, Super-Couponers. No $2 rice, no natural ketchup, no Jammers..!
But I did find cheap toys :)

I guess I was a few hours too early. What a bummer! Jill, I didn’t get any rice either. :)

I ran to the store and bought the A.T. Rex. My son will love it. This has got to be the best deal since I started couponing a few months ago. Thank You very much.

The natural ketchup was restocked tonight so I did get ketchup ;-) Please note the naturals on the shelf expire in July 2010 while the other regular ketchup expired n 2011.
Rice was still empty and I no longer saw the signs for the $4/2 on these.

I ran out of the house as soon as I saw your email. My husband made me pass on the vehicle. I picked up the Hot Wheels race tracks, the musical piano, and the race car driver helmet (that was only 50% off I guess the ones that were 75% off were gone, but I know my son will love it). I was so bummed that I missed the Target sale. This does make up for it!

This morning I was at the East Bolingbrook Meijer and they are still only at 25-50% off toys. They may never reach 75% off! Just thought I would post in case it saves someone a trip.

My Oswego one is still sitting at 50% off. My mom went to one in McHenry and found a couple ride-on pick-up trucks that were 75% off. Normally $250 and they were marked down to $62. Other than that the rest of the toys were still 50% max. So if you’re willing to do some searching there are some good deals to get already!

Toys were still 50% off, and not much to pick from

I have been visiting the Algonquin Meijer on a weekly basis to see when the next markdown would be. Unfortunately, this store sent the rest of their Christmas Toys clearance (1 1/2 aisles) to their Thrift or Thrifty store in Michigan. I was holding off on some 50% off stuff, but now I wish I had picked it up.
