Here’s an email from a Johnny B listener who’s done the Mitchum deodorant deal numerous times today…
21 deodorants = $1.19 including tax!
“I did the Mitchum deal with some coupons from past fliers. Once I had enough Manufacturer coupons, I kept it rollin’. So far I have spent $8.19 on 21 Mitchums, BUT I have $7.00 in Catalina Coupons good for anything on my next purchase and $2.00 in coupons for more Mitchum. So Jewel is paying me to keep my honey smelling great! I am off to get more tomorrow.
PS I did have trouble with the Mountain Air Scent. I didn’t try unscented, but the Sport scent worked great!
I’m bringin’ coupons back!”

I signed up for Grocery Game a few weeks ago after hearing you on Brandmeier. Do you know why this good deal was not on their list and how did you find out about it. How would a regular person find out?

I do love Grocery Game and feel it is one of the best ways to learn to coupon with the least amount of time and effort.
However, my one little irk with their Jewel list is that it doesn’t repeat coupons — meaning, if the list previously used this Mitchum coupon from the newspaper, it won’t show it available to use on a different deal. (Not all of their lists work this way – the Walgreens, CVS and Meijer all repeat coupons, which is very nice if you chose not to take advantage of a deal the first time around.)
So, my guess is that the Mitchum coupon was used in a previous week when the listmaker felt the deodorant was at its lowest price in the cycle. Now that the price is low again, the list thinks that coupon isn’t available anymore, so it doesn’t show the deal.
As far as how to know when these deals come up — my sister tipped me off to this one, as she noticed it was on Jewel’s Avenu discounts for $1.50 off the other day. She went to the store and saw that it was on sale for $3.50, and a sign on the shelf stated that if you bought it, you’d receive a Catalina coupon good for $1 off your next purchase. She asked me what coupons were in the paper for Mitchum (the website http://www.coupontom.com is a great place to look these up!) and after we put that information together, we realized each one would only be a quarter.
When she actually went to the store to buy it, she learned that not only does a $1 coupon print for each one you buy, but you will also get another $1 or $2 off Mitchum coupon that prints at the register, which you can take and roll into the next deal again, and again, and again. These deals are so much fun!
So, to sum it up, we did this one the “old fashioned” way — looking at all the available discounts and determining if it is a good buy. It takes time, unfortunately, but we had our afternoons free that day to figure this one out :)
If you want the Jewel list to repeat coupons, email Grocery Game and ask. (I’ve been doing that for quite some time now. Perhaps sometime they will. It’s strange to me that they don’t when all of the other lists do.)
