My syndicated Super-Couponing Tips column for the week is entitled “A brand switch up: Is it worth paying more for quality?“
Here’s an excerpt:
“I do wonder how often quality factors into your purchase decisions. If I like one brand better than another, is it ever worth paying a little more for it? I feel like some things are just worth paying more for, especially laundry soap, but I also am mindful that I could save more each week if I made lower-cost choices.”

I received a FREE coupon for a jar of Mezetti with a value of $6.99, or the like, and was waiting until Jewel had a BOGO offer on them to get 2 free jars like you found on the Rao’s. I actually cashed it in at the end of last month because I was a few dollars away from getting a FREEBIE in J4U and this put me right at the $100 mark I needed. Long story short, we felt the same as you about all brands being created equal until we tried this one! It was the only sauce we had on hand on New Years Eve when we made some of those Mozzarella cheese sticks so decided no time was better than a “High Holiday” to try it. It blows away any other sauce we have ever had! I’m thinking it is comparable to Rao’s? I will look for a deal on the fancy stuff going forward, yet will never laugh at those outrageously priced jars again! Agreed!

How yummy! I have not tried the Mezetti, but now you make me want to! The Rao’s just tastes wonderful to us – rich, hearty, thick, and homemade – who knew what we were missing?! :)

Rao’s won the Cooks Country best sauce taste test! We just recorded the program from PBS, not sure if it was a rerun, but it won hands down in the panel and audience blind taste test. They said the price of a jar was $9.39! I believe it is filmed in New England, so guess we shouldn’t complain about the $6 + prices here lol
