I would like some advice on redeeming coupons. No matter what store I go to, if I redeem more than a few coupons, the cashier doesn’t give me credit for all of them. It has happened so often that now I count them when I hand them to the cashier and count the beeps as they scan each coupon. This isn’t foolproof, though.
Other times I have caught the cashier missing my coupons and I have had to go to customer service (often waiting in a long line) in order to get the credit. Cashiers have admitted to me that they knew they didn’t scan all the coupons. I am very careful with expiration dates and the number of items that need to be purchased for each one. I think the least a store can do is give me the credit I deserve. This all seems like a lot of work, and I am tired of not being given credit for my coupons. Any advice?

Jill, I use your method number 2, but I do a few other things as well.
I find that the biggest culprit of missed coupons is the printables tending to stick together, so I crinkle them a bit like you would with new dollar bills – just try not to crinkle the bar code. Then I try to put an insert coupon between each two printables.
I also mix my coupons up so that, if possible, there are no two in a row for the same amount, e.g. the first coupon is for $.55, the second one is $1.00, the next is $.75, etc. This way if one gets skipped, I can point it out to the cashier immediately. This makes it easier to identify which one is skipped because if you have two or three $1.00 coupons in a row, and one of them is skipped, you won’t know which one it is without trying to re-scan all of them.
Also, if I find that a certain cashier is sloppy with the coupons or tries to run them through as fast as possible, I try not to use that cashier in the future.
This adds even more work to couponing, but since I’ve been doing these things, I have rarely had a coupon skipped.
