My syndicated Super-Couponing Tips column for the week is entitled “Use gift card cash-back offers as coupons for large purchases.“
Here’s an excerpt:
“While offers like may not be available every week or at every store, seeking them out is worthwhile. These special gift card offers ultimately allow you to purchase a gift card at a lower cost than its face value. Then, you can use the discounted gift card to save money on your purchases and experiences.“

A novel approach to obtain discounts on things that aren’t often discounted. Dollar General often offers a straight 15% off certain gift cards. Not sure if I’ve seen furniture cards, but this enables my wife and I to get the Early Birds at Olive Garden at a 15% discount. That special is subject to no other offers or discounts so the gift card game is a way to get savings not otherwise obtainable.

Wayfair is the furniture card I was referring to in the story – my editor prefers that I not name names too often in my column, but Wayfair’s gift cards have actually been involved in quite a few money-back offers at Meijer :)
