My syndicated Super-Couponing Tips column for the week is entitled “Saving on restaurants and dining in a post-COVID world.“
Here’s an excerpt:
“Like many businesses, the restaurant industry is recovering right now, and they could use our support as they re-acclimate themselves with doing regular business. It’s not exactly the time to be looking for discounts – in fact, if you can afford to leave a generous tip for your restaurant’s staff, it would be a wonderful gesture of support.”

Great advice in the column this week. A lot of restaurants signed up with the delivery Apps just to bring in some revenue but these orders have to be at minimal, if any, profit. I saw a carnival treat truck recently set up on a corner. With summer festivals all cancelled, such set ups are the only way these businesses will have to earn anything from their business. I hope more communities consider allowing this. We can make our own county fair at home after buying an elephant ear or fried Oreo.

I agree. I was really stunned to see how little revenue the restaurants receive from the delivery apps! I understand that the delivery drivers are gig-economy workers who are also trying to make a living, but the apps are barely covering the wholesale costs of the food when less than half the total bill actually goes to the restaurant.
