My syndicated Super-Couponing Tips column for the week is entitled “Shortened expiration dates tighten shopping window.“
Here’s an excerpt:
“Just today I clipped a few coupons out for paper products I use, but noticed the expiration date was in three weeks. I have seen coupons with an expiration date of one week! Is this something new? “

I’m so glad your column continues despite the challenges print media is having. Thanks goodness for papers like the Napa and Huntington (WV) editions that continue to carry your column. I think the Toledo paper still does and has a direct sponsor for it.
As to expiration dates, I see the trend in shorter expiration’s continuing because of the pressure to demonstrate results by management in shorter intervals. This coupled with less experience in brand and marketing management means less understanding of how long it takes for a campaign to really reflect success. I think this puts coupons at risk over the long term as the potential for success with coupon related promotions will not be evident if they aren’t used properly.
Another example on how coupon fraud is affecting us all.

Thank you – I appreciate your kind words. I too am so happy that my column continues to be successful in print.
I agree that there are additional factors to the topic of shortened dates. I do wonder if anyone ever studies the “frustration effect” too, of people upset that they have such a short time to redeem that it may turn them off against the brand.
