My syndicated Super-Couponing Tips column for the week is entitled “Six ‘Bleasure’ Vacation Ideas”
Here’s an excerpt:
“I’ve read recently that business-pleasure vacations, or “bleasure” trips are on the rise, as it’s a great way to save money. A Hilton UK research study notes that the bleasure trend is growing in popularity worldwide: One in three employees invite family members along when they have to take a business trip.”

My husband travels several times per year for work and I went with for the first time last year. He attended a conference in San Diego, so I went with. We flew out a day early so we could go to the San Diego Zoo, which is something I had always wanted to see.
Then it was several days of meetings and conferences for my husband, and more sightseeing for me. The conference ticket he purchased for me included passes to my pick of attractions. I went on a guided tour of an Italian neighborhood with lunch and shopping and to the aquarium. All of the people on the tours were spouses of people at the conference so we all had something in common.
It was a great trip and in two years when the conference is in Boston, we plan to make it another family trip!!

Jeanette, I really see this as a trend that’s only going to continue to grow in popularity. Not only does it save money to share a hotel room (especially when paid for by the employer for the conference) but as you said, the conference often gets better pricing for area attractions than you could purchase on your own. I’ve been to a couple memorable blogger conferences that I’ve tagged family vacations on to, and it’s such a great way to save money and see new & favorite destinations :)

We’ve taken advantage of this also. Last year was a family road trip from Chicago to Atlanta. In the past two years, without kids, we’ve been to Paris, Costa Rica, and most recently Singapore. We joke that we wish he had this job PC ( pre-children). We’d be gone even more.
