My syndicated Super-Couponing Tips column for the week is entitled “‘Skip the lines and the risk of illness with delivery.“
Here’s an excerpt:
“As our country practices social distancing due to COVID-19, it’s understandable that many people might now be considering grocery delivery. This situation is unlike anything we’ve experienced in our lifetimes, and minimizing contact with crowds helps reduce possible exposure. You might be surprised to learn that your favorite grocery store or supermarket already offers grocery delivery. Visit their website or app, and begin selecting the products you’d like to buy from your store.“

What kind of recent delivery windows have you found available, if you have found any available with the current situation? Is your daughter experiencing disruptions with Shipt?

We last picked up groceries 12 days ago from both Mariano’s and Fresh Market in Crystal Lake (yep, both in the same day.) At that time, we’d gotten a timeslot for Mariano’s pickup that was about 10 days out from the day we secured it. Fresh Market was running about 3-4 days out from the current day, so we use that for our “fill in” things that we decided we wanted after placing the Mariano’s order and waiting for it.
Most of our Mariano’s items were available, but I did -not- like that you have to pay at the curb too by swiping your card with a handheld device that their staff uses. I like Fresh Market’s system much better — pay online and then they just put everything in the trunk for you with zero contact.
Almost two weeks ago, my Dad called one morning all excited that Woodmans had opened up time slots two weeks out for curbside pickup. He’d been watching it really closely for days and there were no slots. I signed on, threw some items in the cart, and then paid for it. What is nice about Woodmans’ setup is that IF you can get a slot, you can keep adding to your order up until your pickup day. So, we have gone in a few more times to add more items. We’ll see what we get as we are due to pick it up this week. This is the first time we have used this there.
(I know Jewel also has the ability to add items after you place your initial order, but I’ve heard from quite a few readers that were told that due to demand, even if they added items later, only their initial order’s items will actually be delivered or prepared for curbside.)
Our daughter lives downtown in Logan Square, and she has had great experiences with Shipt. She uses them about once a week, and she’s had no issues with delivery availability. In fact, she said she’s been really impressed how efficient it is, especially living in the city. (Maybe I should try Shipt!) :)
