The Butera in Roselle, IL has an alert posted right on their gift card display of the fake $45 off $50 coupon for Amazon Gift Cards that has been floating around. It looks pretty authentic, but I didn’t try scanning the barcodes on it with my phone.
This is a huge problem. Bigger than most companies will ever let on, but couponing works very well as far as generating business as a marketing tool. More changes in “smart” bar-coding & smarter registers is coming…
This will also prevent many glithces and cashiers not reading the fine print and accepting coupons on purchases that do not qualify for the purchase.
The rest of us end up paying for these losses in higher prices.
On a side note, I hope everyone has been receiving nice high value coupons being emailed to them from the retailers and have been able to take advantage of some of them.
