I pack a lot of lunches now that the three kids are back in school. While they have lunchboxes, the younger ones also bring something small for snacktime in a paper bag each day. I like to stock up on brown paper lunch sacks anytime the 100-count multipacks on sale for a dollar or two.
You can only imagine my surprise to learn that designer Jil Sander has created a $290 version of the paper lunch sack that we are all familiar with. Two hundred and ninety dollars… and it’s still made out of paper! From the Daily Mail:
Only the finest for your juice box and apple. The humble paper bag has had a designer makeover, courtesy of top fashion designer, Jil Sander.
But while the traditional paper sack is usually purchased in bulk or handed out gratis, the Jil Sander ‘Vasari’ retails for a hefty $290 – the same cost as about 50 ham and cheddar sandwiches… Now the unassuming accessory is hitting stores.
The Rolls Royce of paper bags, should you fancy the splurge, is rendered from high-durability coated paper, featuring stitched seams, metal eyelets (for ventilation, naturally) and a prominent designer logo. The fashion pack are hailing it a must-have though. According to style bible W Magazine, the design is ‘turning a necessity into an indulgence… Forget recycling – this bag is a keeper.’
What? Seriously?! A $290 paper bag?
I cannot fathom a point in my life, where, even if I were suddenly to find myself a multimillionaire, in which I would buy a $290 paper lunch bag. And if you’re crazy enough to want one, too bad – MSN notes that they’re already sold out.
If you can afford, and would use, a $290 paper lunch sack… I think you’re reading the wrong blog right now :)

If I get a papersack from a fast food item, and the bag isn’t too greasy or old, I reuse them.. You can keep them folded up in your freezer..
I also reuse those Dunkin Donuts cups (just one time) I make my own ice coffee, and use the cup to carry with me..
I draw the line at washing and reusing zip loc bags. I won’t do that.

I love getting the $1 Marcal Small Steps coupons because Woodmans has a great variety of their paper products. They sell a package of 50 lunch bags for just over a dollar( 1.07, I think). They also have paper napkins for $1.99 and single tissue boxes for about a dollar as well.
