Our Old El Paso Taco Night experience

As part of this giveaway, Old El Paso sent over a Taco Night gift pack for our family to enjoy. In addition to some cool kitchen gadgets, there are two new products in the Old El Paso line – Old El Paso® Mexican Cooking Sauces and Old El Paso® Stand ‘N Stuff Soft Tortillas.

The Mexican Cooking Sauces are a step up from the usual packet of taco seasoning that we usually add to our tacos. Rest assured, when I use the “powder packet,” I always add my own onions, tomatoes and other ingredients to kick things up a notch! But for this dinner, we tried the Roasted Tomato cooking sauce with ground turkey tacos. Once I browned the turkey, adding the sauce was as simple as tearing the packet open and pouring it in to simmer. (And yes, that is my new Caldero pan in the photo!)

I like that the ingredients in the sauce are “real” foods too, without a bunch of chemicals or fillers:

This sauce had a great flavor! Everyone in the house enjoyed it – just the right amount of seasoning without being too spicy for the kids to enjoy. And, as far as the Stand N’ Stuff soft tortillas?

The kids really liked these. They’re made of a soft flour tortilla, and they bend easily without breaking – great for little hands that are assembling their own tacos! I found the flavor of these to be a little on the bland side, but then again… it’s a flour tortilla. The shape is the novelty here, and you can spice it up as much as you want with taco ingredients.

We added some shredded cheese, lettuce (from my kitchen window!) and chopped tomatoes, onions and peppers, and a great taco night was had by all. Although, I’m pretty sure our dog wanted to join us too!

Now, with this gift pack, you get a neat chop turner (a wavy spatula designed for breaking up meat while browning and turning as well as a small vegetable food processor/chopper and a collapsible colander/strainer. The latter two are so neat that I had to show them to you in a little more detail:

    We make chicken taco meat in the crockpot – 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, 2 taco seasoning packets and large jar of salsa, cook 8 hours, shred and enjoy!

  14. Yum! Your tacos look delicious! I would love to win these items. For our taco dinners we use tortillas and bake them in individual taco shell bakers for a taco salad. We season ground turkey meat with taco seasonings and pile chopped tomatoes, lettuce, green peppers, shredded Monterrey /Cheddar cheese and have Mexican-style rice on the side.   17. The new items from Old ElPaso look good, can’t wait to try them. I like to make chicken soft tacos but also just got a pan for making taco salad shells which I need to try out soon.

  18. We have a pool and have a lot of company! Our go to meal is always a taco bar. Everyone makes their own tacos. Who doesnt love tacos? Hardly any work and easy clean up!

  19. Taco night has always been a favorite at our house because everyone loves tacos! With picky eaters it’s one of the meals that pleases everyone.

  50. I frequently have my teen’s friends over for Taco Tuesdays and I make a taco salad that they all love. Once one of the adults complained that I hadn’t invited them over. I then had and “open house” Taco Tuesday, but it grew to such proportions that we had to use space at my church to accommodate everyone. Over 50 people showed up and each family one brought a dish! It was one of the best Taco Tuesdays ever!

  90. A really cool way to use leftover meats or stews, is to fill a flour tortilla with the leftovers. fast and easy dinner. Especially good when you are having a busy evening.

  91. My son recently gave me a list of dinners he “approves” of and tacos make the list! We have tacos pretty regularly and it is great way to use up whatever vegetable leftovers you have.

  92. We eat tacos at least once a week, but I have not tried their Mexican cooking sauces yet, how are they?

  93. I love eat tacos!I prepare the meat with green peppers and onions, sofrito and adobo! Then after cook in low for 15 to 20 minutes I add the taco seasoning and left cook for about 15 minutes. Then serve with my hard tacos, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and of course cheddar cheese!! Yummy!!
